Ltd (1/1/98): Yes, the video for "Phibes/American Psycho" will be released. Post production completes this week and the video will be finished and ready for distribution. The video will be distributed/serviced to TV through Non-Homogenzied Prod. Ltd. not Geffen. It should start to hit TV in mid to late January. Without the major corporation distribution, the more requests the fiends flood MTV and other shows with for both "Bones" & "Psycho" the better your chances will be to see them. Letters, e-mails, phone calls etc. Make your demands known! The only way to get what you want is to ask for it. So if you want to see the Misfits on TV you must ask for them repeatedly! (and I mean repeatedly!!!!!). Mtv's 120 minutes will run a segment on the Misfits this Sunday January 4th. The show starts at Midnight and runs 2 hours long ending at 2 a.m. The segment will close out the show. The show itself will repeatedly mention the Misfits throughout, so fiends may want to watch the whole thing. The segment will feature an interview clip, live performance clip and the "Dig Up Her Bones" video. As soon as we have a scheduled air date for the "American Psycho" video on MTV, The Box etc. we will let you know. In the meantime, requests from the fiends will only help to generate interest in the Misfits on MTV and other shows. Sincerely, G.E.O. Non-Homogenized Productions Ltd. I see a picture of a black metal band on tv and the guy is dressed like he is from medieval times or something, sword and all. I know nothing about this type of music, so please explain this to me so I'm not in tha dark. Not that I really like metal, but I'm just interested. >> Black Metal started out as Venom, Bathory, and Mercyful Fate, and unlike bands today, they were very thrashy, and the word "fun" comes to your mind instead of "evil". I still love all those bands though. Then, in the very late 80s/early 90s, a very strong scene started in Norway, leaded by Euronymous, guitarist of the band Mayhem. They (Mayhem, Burzum, Dark Throne, Immortal, ect.) took evilness much more seriously, and their ultimate goal was to drive Christians out of Norway and avenge their viking ancestors, thus they started burning down churches. Around '92 Samoth of Emperor was thrown in jail for burning down a church (he was released last year i think), and Faust of Emperor was arrested for killing some guy. In 1991, Mayhem singer Dead killed himself by slitting his wrists and blowing his brains out. Euronymous took pictures of the dead body (which would later appear on the "dawn of black hearts" bootleg CD) and took pieces of his brains and made it into a stew. Then in '93 the session bassist for Mayhem/mainman of Burzum Count Grishnack (i know i am spelling it wrong, but i dont feel like looking it up) killed Euronymous. After that, the church burnings and all the crime stopped, but many more bands formed all around Norway, (especially) Sweden, all throughout Europe and some parts in America. Black Metal also has various forms; you have the thrashy sounds of Venom ir Bewitched, or some bands have keyboards and female vox, or some bands incooperate elements of industrial. the image in Black Metal is very important as well, for it sets a certain atmosphere. Some bands wear leather, spikes and bullet belts, some bands wear vampyric/"goth" type outfits, and some bands dress up as vikings. Sorry for taking up so much room....i have left a few things out but i am in a hurry ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 02 Jan 1998 12:58:36 -0500 From: "J.P. There's this movie coming out called "Half-baked." The commercial for it is played about 138 times a day on MTV. During the commercial, keep your eyes glued to the lower left of your screen. And you'll see..... A Misfits poster. It looks like a blacklight poster. It's gotta green-skinned frankenstein on it, and says, get this, MISFITS, on the top. Anyway, be sure to check the commercial out if you can, 'cause this movie is the kind that stays in theaters for about five minutes and then goes straight to video. Now I'd like to share a little something from the Feb '98 issue of Hit Parader. This issue has an article written by Jerry Only. The article should be on Misfits central in a few days. There's also a feature in this issue about a band called Human Waste Project, a No Doubt from hell. I thought you'd get a kick out of the way that they describe themselves: "All of us are into horror. But, we all agree that horror isn't much fun unless it has a sense of humor and a little bit of camp to it. We're trying to maintain a b-movie vibe. In fact our entire lives are like an Ed Wood film. Paul" Subject: Article Date: Sat, 3 Jan 1998 21:44:24 -0800 I just finished reading one of the articles on the page (I can't remember which one, but it was an early one) where this chick reviews a live performance of the 'Fits (I think at the Ritz, but I oculd be wrong). She said that calling them "Punk" was a front, and that they were actually metal. Uh, what? I can think of at least 3 thing wrong with that: 1. Metal has much more intricate guitar and drum work than Punk and The Misfits (Not to say that the 'Fits are less talented, it' jut not their style. God only knows they play circles around a lot of metal bands, especially AlternicA). Punk is usually an alternating bass/snare/cymbal thing and 4 power chords played repetitously (in a style that makes you feel energized.) 2. Metal usually ha long guitar solos, played mostly at the bottom of the neck, whereas punk, assuming their's a guitar solo at all, has short solos. Plus most of the rythms are played in low, low key. 3. Other than the occasional "OH!" dog-bark screamed by James "Gimme more money" Hettfield, how many Metal bands sing "Woah-oh-oh" in all their lyrics? Now, I don't want people yelling at me because they think that I think the 'Fits are not as talented as metal groups. It's not true. I like the simplicity over Metal anyway, and I'm sure they could play shit like that, it's just not their style. So please don't think that I think they're not talented. In truth, I think Tinica, the light metal band, is untalented for stealing Jerry's song. My point is that that dumb bitch who did the article has obviously never listened to either metal, or a 'Fits album (I suppose, at a concert, when you're standing next to an amp, everything is a blur anyway). Misfits are not Metal, and they sure as Hell don't "speedpick everything". I dunno where she got that from. P.S. I just wanted to tell you all about the concert I saw (it was the day after halloween, and I wish I had gone to the 'ween show, but...). Some "hispanic-origined" punk, who didn't even look like he belonged with his gang-banger clothing, kept jumping on stage, and at one point pushed Grave off-stage. After a brief pause in ehich the band left the stage in rage, they came back, cussed at the audience, and played some more. The kid, who for some reason wasn't kicked out by security, came back on stage. So Graves and Jerry beat the fuck out of him. How cool! Too bad Doyle didn't join in, 'cuz he would've seriously fucked that guy up. Sorry for being so long, but I thought I should share that moment with you. Best concert I ever saw. Robert S. Do what thou wilt shall be the whole of the Law. Hello. Does anyone out there have any footage of Danzig touring w/the Electric Hellfire Club??? I am looking for both audio and video, it doesn't really matter. All I want is a recording of both bands. Does anyone know if Glenn Danzig is actually a Satanist, or is he just into the whole fantasy type good-and-evil mythos? In Lucifuge, which I know all of you have noticed, the cd sleeve folds out like an inverted cross, and all of the band members (except John Christ) are wearing the inverted cross w/the devil skull on it. This, to me, seems to be a very indicative statement about Glenn's religious standpoint. Please, an open request from everyone, enlighten me. Also, I have seen many people advertise that they have old (1983) Misfits videos, Braineaters, Halloween and Skulls. Are these actually MTV-like videos, or home made ones? Thanks for your time. Aum. It seems Doug is having a little trouble keeping up with the costs of printing "Squirt." Not to mention that he is extremely busy with other Misfits projects. So, he asked me to pass along the word that anybody or any band, or magazine or company, etc. that has an interest in placing an ad with Squirt, should write to him at: Squirt P.O. Box 137 Cairnbrook, PA. 15924 Keep in mind that the Misfits have been taking copies of SQUIRT with them while on the road and selling them along with the shirts. So, if you place an ad that you want to be seen, your ad will go wherever the Misfits go. Pretty good advertising. Anyway, if anyone has any further questions about Squirt, just mail me and I may be able to track Doug down (he doesnt have access to a computer). As a side, kinda funny, kinda shitty story: A while back, I get an armband from Doyle at one of the shows here in Columbus. Cool. As you may or may not know, I play for the Misfits cover band "Devilock" and I wear this when we play, so I had been wanting to get my hands on a second one. Bummer.. until they start selling them at the shows. Cool, I buy a second one for $25 bucks. Well, my band practices up in my attic and I've got the armbands sitting up there in a box with all my other gear. Here's the problem... When I'm away from home, possums have been getting into the attic somehow and looking for food. We cant leave cigarettes, or half empty beers or pop or any kinda food cause they just tear everything up. So I finally think that I have the problem solved and blocked off the way they're getting in. Everythings fine for about a week until I come home one night and hear them up in the attic, only to come up and find one of the armbands gone.....D'oh!!! I'm ready to tear the fuckin' walls and floor apart to get my armband back. So if you see a possum wearin' a Misfits armband, be sure to let me know. Well I can`t answer the "unity" part, but "oi" has a lot to do with punk. Back in the late `70`s and early `80`s there were A LOT of punk bands in the UK . Their music kinda sounded like a genre of it`s own, so that`s what "oi punk" is. New bands from the usa that shout "oi oi oi" are just stealing it from the original oi bands. DARKFIEND ----E ------------------------------ From: "Amy Welch" Subject: Jerry wants to play stadiums Date: Mon, 05 Jan 1998 22:42:45 PST There was a comment last issue about it being kind of shitty that the Misfits want to be all over MTV. I agree, but expect more of this kind of thing. I read in an interview or something that Jerry's ultimate dream is to play a stadium. In an article that appeared in the Washington Weekend, July 3, 1997 (don't know if it's on the Net) he stated as follows "If I am correct, by the time I put out my 10th album, we will be up there with the Beatles and Rolling Stones". One of the biggest fiends I know has said, or vowed is actually more like it, that he won't go to a show if they play a stadium, because that is just so non-punk rock, etc. The guy who said this is a VERY dedicated fiend by the way, so nobody better even try to say he's just not a real fiend, because that would be some serious BULLSHIT right there. While it is true that once a fiend, always a fiend, some fiends are just having a hard time swallowing all these attempts to become a trendy, huge as hell, stadium band. It fucking hurts!! It almost feels like betrayal. Sorry to submit this much, but I think this is a serious issue. Every time this issue is brought up in conversation with other fiends, it's discussed for maybe a few minutes and then brushed under the rug becasue it's just such a touchy, confusing thing. We don't want to face the truth. It's like this--we love the Misfits eternally and have pledged this by calling ourselves fiends, and then they try to seduce something as lame as MTV. It's fucking embarrassing. I don't know. Tempers might flare about this, but I and many other fiends who have a backbone will not support MTV for anybody. I love Jerry, but I'm not going to call some station that I HATE and kiss ass just because he says to (and wants to hit those stadiums). MTV sucks ---Miss Kitty P.S. If you want to see the video that bad, you can download it from the Horror Hotel page. It doesn't come out too sharp, but it's free and it's better than turning on MTV. ______________________________________________________ Get Your Private, Free Email at http://www.hotmail.com ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 6 Jan 1998 02:24:08 -0500 (EST) From: Xombiex@aol.com Subject: Doug Evil's mom won't pay for Squirt anymore knoss@iwaynet.net (Keith "GWAR" Noss) wrote: Subject: Rare records for sale I've got some rare records for sale including: Samhain "Initium" LP on red wax Metallica "Whiplash" 12" (their first on Megaforce) Velocity Girl "My Forgotten Favorite" 7" w/promo pillow case plus all kinds of rare punk rock and rock 7"s and LPs. If it wasn't for my current financial situation I would never dream of selling this as I almost never part with anything in my collection. This skateboard deck was produced in the late '80s during the Samhain era & advertised in THRASHER magazine but none were ever shipped. For many years they were thought to be just a rumor until these surfaced in 1995. There were two body styles, the skull shape and coffin shape and two designs - the Pushead "Evil Eye" (back of "Die Die" 12") and "Evil Never Dies" (cover of "Legacy"). There were also 2 Samhain designs manufactured in these same body styles. They sat under the porch of Glenn Danzig's parents house for nearly 10 years when Glenn's parents gave several boxes to Jerry Only in 1995. I rec'd this deck from Jerry shortly after. It is the "skull" shape and has the Pushead "Evil Eye" design in white and red on black. It is in absolutely mint condition in its original plastic bag. This is an extremely rare Misfits item and should be of interest to the serious collector seeking related memorabilia as you may never get another chance at one of these! Photos are posted on my web page at: http://www.geocities.com/SunsetStrip/Alley/4543 (follow MISFITS button) I will accept bids until 10 pm Eastern Standard Time, January 17th 1998. Minimum bid is $100.00 and I reserve the right to withdraw this item if I feel the bidding is insufficient or I obtain the money elsewhere. Payment must be made in full within one week after auction closes. If paid with money order or cashiers check deck will be shipped immediately, if paid by check will be held three weeks for check to clear. Shipping and insurance is additional and exact amount will depend on buyer's location or it may be picked up. First of all -- Mark, really glad to see the Bible back from the dead! For a long while there -- there was a big, black, sucking void in my life, and then I realized, "What a minute, that *is* my life." You can imagine my relief. Love all Misfits/Samhain, love American Psycho, loved seeing the guys at Troc in Philly last Halloween. I think Misfits shows are the only ones where I really get hoarse from singing from beginning to END! As far as MTV goes ... hmm -- It was Jello Biafra who sang that MTV made the medium of rock video "sink as low in one year, as commercial TV has in 25." While I'm inclined to agree, I can't deny that -- but, it *is* really the only game in town, and fuck if we all don't have to play. Oh, we don't *really* HAVE to play if we don't want to ... we can condemn ourselves to strip ads in the back of Maximum Rock and Roll and root through dumpsters at dinner time. The Misfits have BEEN there and DONE that -- and have lasted 20 years without MTV's help -- and so have scores of other bands. In 1998 -- MTV is a necessary evil. How many people have posted things here to the effect of "Man, I'm the biggest Misfits fan on the sphere -- just wish I could see em --- cause ya see I live in Bumblefuck, Miss. -- and the city council here only JUST approved Led Zeppelin I for sale in our local Walmart ... the edited version of course." A band being seen CAN'T be a bad thing. Everyone acts like posers were invented in 1993! Like everything else -- you know YOU'RE a true fan, and the blood will rise to the top -- don't let the bastards get ya down!!! As far as the oi controversy. *Oi* really is just British for HEY! As in the beginning of AC/DC's "TNT." What's a little less known is the obscure English expression *Iki Iki Bim Doo Whip* --- which is the Brit way of saying "Whoa-oh" -- but it's seldom used nowadays. I do not want to see my charished Misfits on there. I think that it would only hurt them in the long run. I do however think it would be very beneficial for them to get on the OzFest. Atleast they are some what at home on that tour with other non-mainstream bands, even though some are big. I would have no problem going to stadiums to see the Misfits as long as they got there on their own hardwork and through the work of all of us (the fans, the fiends) and not the work of MTV. Look at bands like Pantera and Slayer, they play stadiums and MTV sure as hell never plays any of their videos. Its up to us to spread the word of the Misfits, not MTV and the corporate mainstream. -judas ------------------------------ From: ScaryDave Date: Wed, 7 Jan 1998 14:06:16 EST Subject: In Referance to My Last Post Yes, I have been listening to the Misfits since I was 3. J." Subject: Misfits Figures Date: Thu, 8 Jan 1998 21:30:37 -0500 This is a response to Ryan Leyhue's question about Mcfarlane Toys making Misfits action figures. According to Tim Branson, the answer is no. It seems Terry Fitzgerald (the man in charge under Todd) isn't interested, even though "rank and file" seemed interested. I remember quite some time I went to every Misfits site and told people to write to Mcfarlane and request Misfits figures and started quite a ruckus on Action Figure Times (would you believe people were actually arguing for Hanson figures?!?! I know...it's a sick world.). The only thing Todd is making rock oriented in the future is Kiss Psycho Circus figures (a comic tie-in) that should be out in the second quarter of this year. Who will be making Misfits action figures? As far as I've heard (again from Tim Branson) it's 21st Century Toys. Right now, you can go into just about any store and check out their Ultimate Soldier Line. If you haven't seen this line it's military and GI JOE scale. So, in essence, the 12" Misfits figures made by 21st Century Toys would tower over the Kiss figures and still be able to fight and rip the heads off the Spice Girls action figures offered by Galoob ("...Rip the heads off [British] girls and...put 'em on my wall..."). As if that's not enough, in the summer you might wanna purchase Beavis and Butthead figures (by Moore Action Collectibles) so you can have ring-side commentary on the blood-fest. Keep in mind, that this stuff about the Misfits action figures is still in the air. I would recommend going back to Misfits Bibles around late October/early November and read Tim's post. He's the man when it comes to Misfits figure info. Lastly, (and this is only slightly related), Fink Tank is offering an officially licensed RatFink figure. Did I miss a lot, or what? I've been unable to check my e-mail all week because I had to attend the funeral & services of my girlfrend's cousin & her boyfriend who were murdered on New Year's Day, and my girlfreind's grandfather, who passed away on Sunday. Checking e-mail was, of course, the last thing on my mind. But, now, it's time to step back into life, y'know? I would like to ask, that if there are any fiends out there who believe in God, to please pray for her family. I thank you all in advance, you don't know how much it can do until you try. Um, about all the stuff goin' on here... I, *of course*, have an opinion, and I thought I should add my 2¢ (two cents). After all, isn't that what this thing is all about? On the MISFITS (Jerry) wanting to make it big, play stadiums, & be commercially sucessful: Cool! If Jerry wants it, then so do I. Why not? It's his job. Don't we all want to do our best at work? The better job you do, the more money you make. He's not worried about artistic integrity, so why should anyone else be worried? Who says you have to be small & play clubs to be cool? I think it's awesome that they want their music to reach as many people as possible. Why shouldn't everyone be able to enjoy their music? If -- so called -- "posers" wanna buy the albums, let 'em. It can only help & support the 'fits, so we, the fiends, can see & hear 'em all over the f'n place! Why *wouldn't* I want to see that??? Okay, enough about that one. On the MISFITS playing Ozzfest: Even cooler! I love Ozzy, Type O Negative, Pantera, & all that shit. Why isn't it okay for the MISFITS to play that? I hate to break it to you, but the artists I just listed sound NOTHING alike. Yet, I like all of it! Woah! Diversity? What's that? I *LOVE* the 'Fits, but they're NOT the only band in the world. And yes, I even like Guns N' Roses, and I'd love to see them, Black Sabbath, & the MISFITS all in the same show. I saw Metallica & GN'R in '92 at Three River's Stadium & it rocked. Rock, Punk, Metal, -call it what you will, but it's all good. To the MetallicA bashers: Give it up! Yeah, I bought *Re-Load*. Yeah, I like "Master of Puppets" ten times better than "Fuel". But look at the Beatles. From their first album, to the last, it sounds completely different, yet they're hailed as one of the best bands of all time. I like their music, but I'd rather listen to MetallicA. As far as I'm concerned, they can keep crankin' it out 'till they're 80, & I'll keep buyin' it. Hey, did anyone else hear Sepultura during a commercial on MTV? What's up with that? They won't play their videos, but they'll use it to advertise the shit they show. M is for "Music" right? I don't wanna see sports, the "Real World", "Road Rules", n' shit. Why don't some fiends start a new music channel that'll play the shit we like?
