I was away, and there appears to have beena slew of responses to my last post regarding the MISFITS being dropped from GEFFEN (oooops... I said it again). WHICH MISFITS ARE HOMOPHOBES ? Listen to the various bootlegs - and tell me who is saying "Bobby Steele is a homosexual" a the end of TEENAGERS. On some shows, it sounds like Glenn, on others, it sounds like Jerry. These statements have caused a lot of problems for me in the form of threatening phone calls. I brought this up to Jerry, and asked that he make an attempt to alleviate the problem caused by these statements, by simply explaining it off as a stupid, immature comment that had no validity other than a display of anger. He REFUSED. In other words; Jerry Only has no problem with people who feel it's okay to use violence against people that MAY be gay. These comments were made at a time when THE MISFITS were popular among a macho-skinhead/homophobe crowd. They must've known that by saying this, it would endanger me if I were to run into any of these fans. If that's not enough . . . there is another interview - I believe it was FLIPSIDE - where they talk about the FLESHEATERS and god- forbid, what HOMOs they were. All I can say is GEFFEN's dropping of a band that sold over 100,000 copies in less than 5 months says it had to do with something other than sales potential. Regarding why they would allow themselves to be photographed with Mike Alago - they guy was handing them a shitload of money - and it's already apparent that Jerry will do anything for money. That's what being two-faced is all about. In response to the guy who came in defense of GILMAN . . . you admit that they censor. Free speech is "FREE SPEECH", not 'free to say what we agrere with'. That's more of an oppressive stance - which I thought those people were supposed to be against. Obviously, they feel oppression is okay - as long as they're the oppressor. Why'd they dick me around . . . twice ? My songs are nothing more than my thoughts and experiences. Some songs are sexual, but not sexist, although THEY may feel that a song such as EVENING OF DESIRE is sexist - since it describes a heterosexual situation that may be out of what they consider the norm for straight people. Just because some of you get together and vote on a matter doesn't make it right. Our constituion was written to protect the minority from the views of the majority - just in case the majority was wrong. A good example was the time THE UNDEAD was accused of being nazis - because they Yippie promoters couldn't understand the words to one of the songs. They shut down our sound in the middle of what they determined to be an offensive song. When I asked them why they shut us down, they sat me at a table in front of their "board" and demanded that I repeat the lyrics to that last song. So, I looked at all these potential Hitlers, and began; "F, I SAY F I / F I N / F I N K / FINK / F I N K Fink Fink Fink Fink ... Do you want me to continue ?". I went into a Record Exchange the other day and since they can order cd's for you, I asked them if it was possible to order any SamHain cd's. I ordered November Coming Fire, and it will supposedly take up to 2 weeks for it to come in. So if any of you guys have a record store around that can order cd's for you, you might want to ask and check it out. I also got November Coming Fire on tape for 3 bucks used. I also saw Prophecy II, and it was disappointing, considering how great the first one was. Glenns part was lame and you only see his face for about 2 seconds. Concerning Geffen: 2) Geffen are a bunch of train jumping, industry scumbags (no different than any other major label wishing to exploit the streets and the kids) who thought they could make a quick buck off of the MISFITS name. They probably gave up some big cash, promised good money for videos etc. (obviously caught up in some lawyer's hype I might add) and when the sales figures hit they knew that they couldn't afford to pay the second contract advance for the next record and even hope to profit so they bailed." Major label" is not about making good music, it's about making sales. If you didn't know that before you do now. The A&R guy probably liked the MISFITS when he was younger and thought it would be "a cool thing" to have the MISFITS on his label, much like "it's a cool thing" to be an obnoxious prick (see Gorgo last ish..). It was Either that or the band had a bidding war going on and Geffen won out. They did have a reputation for being a very artist oriented (more so than most) label that "tried" to help "develop" artists, way back when. At any rate the MISFITS where always succesful as a DIY band (I think mostly due to Glenn's smarts), and if the rest of the members have learned anything in all the years they have been in " the business" they will continue to be just as successful. Concerning Glenn Danzig: 3) I must admit I readily enjoy the Danzig era MISFITS music and from my perspective, I have to give Glenn props for masterminding the whole thing. On the other hand the guy is, in my opinion, a pompous asshole. He's living, and has himself jazzed on, his own "Wolverine/Devilman" bullshit. Digging the concept and believing you really are the concept are two different things. Concerning the "rules" of martial arts being an explaination for his self- centered rudeness to fans and his bodyguards, I've never heard a bigger crock of shit in my life. First, I must state publicly a debt I owe The Misfits--for almost a year I have been revising a horror novel that I sent off to my publisher Thursday morning. Through the entire process of revising, I have been blasting The Misfits (both New and Old, once AMERICAN PSYCHO came out) while ripping the manuscript to shreds (just ask my wife!). For the record, the book is called DAWN SONG, it will scare the shit out of you, it's coming out this spring, it took me TEN FUCKING YEARS to research and to write, and it's about... a Succubus. Definitions: Incubus refers to the male version of the demonic spirit, Succubus refers to the female demon. "Incubus" is a bastardization of the Latin _incubare_--to lie on top of (as in "incubate"), "Succubus" is a bastardization of _subcubare_--to lie beneath. Symptoms of Incubus/Succubus visitation: I use "symptoms," because manuals for exorcists were written like medical books. In the case of succubi, repeated nocturnal ejaculation and paralysis in the morning. The wet dreams bit is self-explanatory, but some modern scholars think the paralysis bit has to do with the fact that sometimes adolescent kids will, because of rapid muscular development, wake up unable to move. As teenage boys always wake up with a woody, you can guess how succubi came to get blamed. Other symptoms: dementia, blindness, madness. (cool, huh?) About Tony Bridges'(Crypt33@ldd.net) initiating a discussion re: Nazi occultism, I thought I'd offer some background info I've dug up in my extensive, and basically pointless, occult research: No bullshit, I think Hitler's astrological charts are kept in the Bertelsmann Sachbuchverlag archives. I think they are available to the public. I'm really not certain about this, so don't go pounding on their door demanding to see the doc's. But it is cool to think about.... A lot of this research is sketchy, as there are big holes in the primary sources that have survived. On Nov. 2, 1939, Swiss astrologer Karl Krafft predicted the attempt on Hitler's life of Nov. 8 in Munich (at the B=FCrgergrau Haus). Krafft had a buddy, Dr. Heinrich Fesel, who worked for Himmler; Krafft sent Fesel a letter about his prediction, but Fesel kept it quiet. After the assasination attempt, Krafft sent a telegram to Hess about his prediction, and Hess had him arrested as a possible conspirator. About that time, Himmler was going to trance mediums to find the indentities of the assasins (cool, huh?). While Krafft was in custody, Goebbels started reading up on Nostradamus (though he never believed in Nostradamus, per se), and eventually had Krafft hired to write psychological warfare pamphlets about how Nostradamus predicted the inevitable victory of Germany. Krafft actually believed all this. This was before the "Aktion Hess" of June 9th, 1941, when the Nazis rounded up all the occultists and locked them up; after Hess, a real believer in the occult, fled to Scotland in May of 1941, the Party believed his flight was timed by way of astrological considerations. This leads us to the whole "Hess double" conspiracy theory, which is just too weird for me. I like my conspiracy theories to include Area 51 whenever possible. That's just my preference.... One of the big experts on this crazy Nazi stuff is a guy named Ellic Howe. I have no recent info on the guy, but he wrote Urania's Children: the Strange World of the Astrologers, which has a few good leads, and also Astrology, The Story of its Role in World War II (Walker and Sons, 1968). A very cool horror writer who deals a lot with this stuff is Tina Jens. Check out her short story "S.T.O.P.-N.O.S." in the anthology _The Secret Prophecies of Nostradamus_, edited by Cynthia Sternau and M. Greenberg. I'm sure some FIENDS have grandparents that were alive during that time, maybe they were in the military, overseas, or even maybe in a Concentration Camp. Ask them about Hitler & see what they think. I agree with free speech n' all that, but when your free speech is about hate, & a big power trip, you need a serious ass-kicking. The Fits got a whopping 20 grand advance on the first album - so I think sales of the record (especially with a lot of fans buying the CD and multiple copies on vinyl) gave them a decent profit - not millions, but definately a decent return on their initial investment. Also, as far as the videos are concerned, I doubt that was an issue either considering the projected budget the label was presented with for Dig Up Her Bones was something like $5,000 - which is an insanely cheap amount to shoot a video on. So I doubt money played into it - unless they were expecting this record to go gold or something. Bands get dropped for stupid reasons. I may be wrong but I think Geffen bought out EMI this past year and maybe the FIts simply got caught in a corporate restructuring thing. Or maybe some peopleon the board just weren't into them. I thought for years that any gold or platinum records even CD's had been made by the record companies as rewards for large numbers of records sold. Well i found out from the friend who had one made as a gift for some band. She did it in NYC they dip the record, stick it on a mount, frame it with a engraved plate inside on the mount. and there, if you got the money you can have any band go Gold or Platinum. So the sad thing is it would be hard to prove it real or not. Though i would guess there would be some papers to prove it as real or not. Oh, to that Pissed off Fiend, you tell them like it is ;) Its nice to see posts with that much conviction. Plus the fact that i do agree on many of the points made, but that is besides the point. I noticed someone saying $50 for a November Coming Fire, well it just does not work like that. See I have to admit that some of the prices on sales items here on the bible and the auctions on Misfits Central do get carried away. I do believe that someone out there would be nuts enough to pay this guy $50. Though more likely on an orange vinyl November and not the black vinyl. On certain things that are Misfits and Samhain pieces you guys need to think about what you are doing when paying $40+ on the recent color vinyl pieces. I still don't see that for Dig Up Her Bones or the purple Static Age. If it was any of the original Misfits 7"s or a Purple Die Die/ or Earth AD yeah that would make sense. I have seen some of you get wicked pissed when you see these outragous prices but some are justifiable. The Skateboard deck that EVB was auctioning off, $100 MB. That was more than justifiable, it was selling at $40 and 42 when they first came out. So what if Jerry was not so bright and sold them for $15. I don't see to many of you running around with a Glenn deck in your collections. Plus, I did not see that many of you yell at fiends selling the gold Earth AD cds for $75. Now that makes a lot of sense doesn't it. Shit, I was lucky enough to get one of the blank Coffin shaped decks from Glenn's decks two years ago. Though the whole point i'm trying to make is, think before you shell out the bucks, and don't bitch at those who are trying to sell off extra originals. Shit happens, some of us get short on dead presidents. EVB needs a new car, I need a new computer its all part of life. Though i will sell off my extra punk and hardcore pieces well before i will ever sell any Misfits, Samhain, Danzig, or Undead stuff. I made that mistake once and it won't ever happen again. SKULLSKATES made the original 'band' decks back in 85'ish with a MISFITS, GANG GREEN, SOCIAL DISTORTION, and VANDALS decks with their respective logos. MISFITS decks were then sold by Plan-9 (friggin great boards, btw. with the exact same shapes as the JFA band decks being made at the time by Placebo records in Arizona. Definately worth picking any of the above deck up for old times sake, i've got a couple. The Gang Green Deck is available on a cut-out (skateshaped) 7" with "skate to hell on it" for about $20. Great to pick up it you can... i've got in mounted next to my OZZY disks on the wall. ps.NAZI PUNKS can FUCK OFF - there is nothing glamourous about pretending to be something that screwed so many people up 50 yrs ago. OK this isn't really Mistfits related but I think we need a history lesson. Danzig was a major port in Germany. After WWI it (as well as the land leading to it called the Polish corridor) was given to Poland. This was done to give the new country a path to the sea. This split off Eastern Prussia from the rest of Germany. When Hitler had come to power and built up the army he started by conquering Czekoslovakia and Austria. This was meant with no resistance from any other country and was before WWII. He then turned to Poland. This was when France and England declared war and WWII began. After conquering Poland and France he turned to Russia. They however defeated him using meathods simmilar to those used 100 years earlier against Napolian. So in a way the city of Danzig started WWII. I do not beleive that Glen is Nazi. He seems to be intressted in it, but that is all. The sex pistols used to wear swastikas on their shirts but they weren't nazi just tring to piss people off. Danzig just seems intressted in it. The winners got to go on the road with Danzig in Germany. I remember Glenn giving a tour of Munich and most of the places he went in one way or another were significant to the SS , and there was also a 16 century castle with a cave in the basement.
