I was impressed. I have seen the Ramones 10+ times and was happy to see CJ. I even got to talk to him after the gig and got his autograph. He was a really nice guy and was very inattentive on what I was saying to him. His record is out on Alturnitive Tentical records, I think that it is a EP. They were great. 2) Johnny Rotten got busted in 1977 with 138 milligrams of amphetamines. 3) The new AWESOME Gundam Tetra imported model is 138 in the wholesale catalog. Boy, is that fun or what? Gotta love that lucky number. Nextly, my opinions on "American Psycho". Brand me however you wish, ye teenaged mob of villains, but I don't like the advance cassette at all. Why? They sound like every other band imitating the Misfits. As you should know, the actual music the Misfits played is very very easy to play. Any band can copy that and at least have a decent background. It's the lyrics/vocals combination that brings a band higher up. These "Misfits" don't have it. I don't like Michaele's vocals, for one. And secondly, the lyrics all sound like stupid slasher flicks...they don't "get it" like some of the original Misfits tunes did. Glenn really was the band...sorry! I'm not trying to rag or say I told you so, I was hoping this would be good too. But as long as they make millions of dollars, that's what matters. My glass house is long since shattered, don't worry. Yours should be too. Anyone out there have the way too limited Spazz/Rupture split 7" they wanna trade or sell me? My thesis would probably be the opposite: good music wasn't picked up, period. .From 1977-1982, punk bands (not hardcore, even!) in the US alone (don't even get me started on foreign countries)...great bands who weren't picked up for whatever reason (probably because they know not to go to a sucky label who tells them what to do, or maybe because they're too obscure): Nubs (both), Absentees, Tapeworm, Mad, Chuck Taylors, Eat, Aryan Disgrace, Legionaires Disease Band, Bobby Soxx, False Prophets, NNB, Silly Killers, Insults, Eddie and the Subtitles, Panics, Ebeneezer and the Bludgeons, Cringe, Rejects, Big Boys, Customs, Really Red, Sado-Nation, General Foodz, Features, Grim/Klone Band, Chain Gang, Village Pistols, Nervebreakers, Authorities, Stoned, Dejex, Opus, Vains, Nuns, Avengers, Sick and the Lame, Cult Heroes, Crap Detectors, Vomit Pigs, Child Molesters, DOA, Dicks, Uncalled 4, Unnatural Axe, Crime, Losers, Gizmos, Max Load, Shell Shock, Necros, Fix, Cold Cock, Strike Under, Kneecappers, Pagans, Executives, X-Terminators, Heart Attack, S'Nots, Ice 9, Styphnoids, Hollywood Squares, Snucky Tate, Cosmetics, Victims, Skinnies, Dogs, Shock, Trend, Accident, Teenage PhDs, Peer Pressure, Tazers, Chiefs, Screaming Mee-Mees, Plugz, Normals, Nervous Eaters, Lewd, Meaty Buys, Mentally Ill, Lubricants, Shit Dogs, Tragics/Misfits, Dead Kennedys, Abused, Maids, Dot Vaeth Group, DDT, Reactors, Crucified, Endtables, X-X, Stains (both), Nasty Facts, Detention, Queers, Kraut, the Wipers, Toxin III, the Hated, Latin Dogs, Dennis Most and the Instigators, John Vomit and the Leather Scabs, AK47, Brain Police, Zero Boys, Ejectors, Babylon Dance Band, Ed Davis Band, Alan Milman Sect, Includes Cardiac Kidz, Lizerds, Chemotherapy, Breakouts, Maroons, Lockjaw, Chronic Sick, Injections, HBE, Ayatollahs, Distorted Levels, Ed Nasty and the Dopeds, the Freeze, 5, Violators, Rotters, Cracked Actor, Epicycle, Fear, VKTMS, Epicycle, Maggots, Regular Joes, Plastic Idols, Screaming Urge, Features, Violators, Inanimate Objects, Private School, Funeral, Razar, Freestone, Reducers, Vertical Slit, Negative Trend, etc. etc. If anyone wants more thesis support, I'll do foreign countries next time. But I think my point has been well-proven. BTW, the Saints 1st LP IS awesome. Top five Australia, easy, along with the first Razar 7", the Victims, the Psycho Surgeons and of course, the best of the best, the Fun Things. But there's plenty more from down under...I recommend old Aussie punk highly to the curious...maybe it's because it was a British penal colony, or maybe it's because there weren't enough people to form sucky bands, but most of the old Aussie punk bands are really spectacular. We started out at 6:00am and we decided to drive the 79 BRONCO because it has more room for the 5 us. We never expected the truck to break down, but it did! After sitting at a rest stop for a while, we had the truck towed to a service station/car rental agengy. Between all of us we had about $500 and decided to rent a car hoping that we would still make the show. If you have ever tried to rent a car you know you have to be 21 and have a credit card and none of us fit both of these categories so my friend's mother came to pick us up and we begged her to rent us a car but she didn't want to take the responsibility for us. Jerry really is a class act. At the August 16th show from the Resurrection Tour in San Bernandino I went to, he was exactly that. In already being the best night of my life, I didn't it think could get any better. But it did. After the Misfits were done playing, they must have stayed for over an hour talking to the fans. Actually, only Jerry and Chud talked to the fans after the concert. Doyle and Michale took off backstage. Jerry signed anything you brought up to him, including under some guy's Crimson Ghost tattoo. I had him and Chud sign my ticket stub, as well a laminated Misfits meet Vampira picture. He was like "Wow, where'd you get that? That's an old picture." Chud signed his name over Danzig's chest. But then again, his only other options were over Vampira or Doyle. Anyways, I asked Jerry and Chud questions like "Are you guys ever gonna put out TAB books?". They both told me that "they were trying to. Maybe soon." Hopefully now that there on a major label, tab books will become a reality. Also, I asked Jerry if it was okay that our band use the name "Green Hell". He said something like "hell yeah. We don't own the name. Go ahead." I was in awe. Here I was, talking to Jerry Only. A founding member of the MiSFiTs. I never even thought I'd see them live, let alone talk to a member! Who'd a thought they would return. Aren't we all so lucky? BTW - anyone know where I could get an video or audio tape of the show I attended? It was August 16th, 1996, at the San Bernardino Arena, San Bernardino, CA. Niko Bolas, (best known for his work with Neil Young, including Rocking In The Free World and This Note's For You) who produced, recorded and mixed the Circle Jerks' Oddities... album, was also mixing Debbie Gibson's Think With Your Heart album at the time, and for whatever reason, invited Debbie to the studio where the Jerks were recording to do backups. Apparently Debbie liked the idea enough not only to do the guest appearance, but to sit in with the band when they played at CBGB's during their '95 tour, and this made Rolling Stone's Random Notes section, complete with a picture of Debbie in a Circle Jerks T-shirt onstage with Keith Morris. They kicked major ass! Anthrax was the last band to play before the 'Fits, and the crowd was just as enthusiastic for 'Thrax as for the 'Fits, so I don't think that having another major band on the bill is bad for the Misfits tour. Also, Micale Graves was NOT at that show. Rumor at the Agora was that he was spending the night courtesy of the Cleveland Police Dept. (Mark, do you know anything about that?) However, as the band was playing, Dr. Chud and Jerry started singing, leaving Micales mike stand abandoned. Fiends from the pit soon took over the vocal duties. After Jerry reprimanded the secruity guards not to throw the kids off stage, the party began. Fiends were allowed to sing one song at a time, then dove back into the crowd. Soon Scoot Ian, and John Bush from 'Thrax were on stage, as well as guys from Pro Pain and other bands that had performed that night. In short it was one of the most incredible concerts I've ever seen. There was no barrier between the band and the fans. Everyone was there for the same reason, to party. One fiend even told Jerry he knew "Blacklight", so the band got to do one new song for the crowd. Also, I went to a convention in Akron, OH and picked up a copy of Collections II on green vinyl for $12.00. I think I got a good deal, what do you think Tammy? The stuff is out there, although only two dealers had 'Fits stuff where I was, it was a small show. Stay Sick! It's fun. The only thing is I play bass. I feel a band forming ha ha. Now to answer the Misfits questions. 1. Who am I and where am I from? My real name is Dave Schultz (not the wrestler, the football player, or the hockey) player. I have the Bible name Voogy, cuz all the cool names has been taken. I'm from IL and I will be 25 on April 14. 2.What do I do? I am a student at Elgin's ECC. 3.How did I get into the Misfits. When I was a freshmen I loved the songs Last Caress and Green Hell by Metallica, I thought they where Metsllica songs. When I was a sophmore I went through my freind's tape collection and saw Earth AD. When I saw the Green Hell song I said "Hey, didn't Metallica do this song first?" After hearing the tape I ran out and bought it. My JR year my freind (not the sameone) said check out this song and played Twist of Cain. Not knowing Glenn sang for the Misfits I became a big fan and bought his first two albums. Shortly after Highschool I found out Glenn was the same lead singer. I ran out and bought WAU and Collection 1. I also picked up the first Samhain album. by the summer of 93 I was a huge Misfits nut. All I would play is Misfits, Samhain, and Danzig's first two albums. I also like Danzig 4. 3& 5 Just didn't do much for me. 4.Other hobbies. I love movies (old horror films and all) I collect comics, Batman stuff Marvin the Martian stuff, and other odd things (like skulls) I also like to write. My friend Ben and I are working on a movie. I sould also like to do a Crimson Ghost flick some time. 5.Last book I read. Mike, Spike, Slackers, and Dikes. It sucked. ThAT'S ALL!!!! I was doing some shopping and was walking down the isle, and heard this kid yell at me, "You're coat is god!" I turned around to see this little kid wearing a misfits t-shirt, had to be about 13 or 14. See i have MISFITS and a pic of the crimson ghost painted on the back of my leather jacket. If you're in the listener area . . . tune us in. We had a major falling out with out manager this weekend, so I don't know how this is gonna affect our upcoming gigs in the midwest. I'm gonna try to salvage whatever may have been booked. If you've seen an upcoming TIMES SQUARE show, in your area, advertised - get in touch with me right away so I can confirm things. This was pretty sudden, but Jill doesn't take to sexual harassment too well. By the way fiends, I made some changes to the Misfits Central site, and there may be a few bugs for a while... I know the pictures page is horrendous looking, and I am also aware of the fact that none of my pictures or back issue bible links work. That's not my fault - the music archive server crashed and they were all lost, for now at least... Also, I just want to apologize here for coming down so hard last issue on good old Dave Naked. Sorry, Dave. Next - the Misfits Bible shirts - I was hoping they'd be ready now, but Corey, the t-shirt man, has left for Europe with the band, so the shirts won't be ready until the summer at the earliest. First CG said "This thread is getting silly. The fact of the matter is ALL of the >old-school punk was released on majors or large indies. Back then good >was picked up, period. Then Gramps said >Bullshit. My thesis would probably be the opposite: good music wasn't >.From 1977-1982, punk bands (not hardcore, even!) in the US alone (don't >started on foreign countries)...great bands who weren't picked up for >(probably because they know not to go to a sucky label who tells them what >maybe because they're too obscure): and goes on to list a hundred bands, 1/2 of which most of us never heard of. Its obvious that what you consider good and what other folks consider good must differ. The fact is you list all punk/hardcore bands and say "good music" wasn't picked up at all. There is alot more to music than punk/hardcore, and if thats all you listen to you are really missing out on alot. I dont want to drag this discussion on any longer, because its obvious from the above posts, and other side discussions we've had, that you have your opinion, I have mine, CG has his, and let's leave it at that.. Onto tape news ... I have harvested the first 19 songs for the "From Hell They Came ... " tape/CD clocking in at around 43 minutes. Alot of cool stuff. I am awaiting some last minute stragglers to get their material to me and then Keith and I will begin distributing. I will make this tape 60 minutes with tunes from the bands I already have if I don't receive any more contributions. Again, for those that want CDs, and some of you have already let me know, please let me know in advance as I only plan to make enough CDs for those who ask for them. Now in Bible #320 Luther the Geek said >DRI >I don't think that it would be a good idea to have DRI opening for the >Misfits. I like DRI, but at a Misfits show, you can't expect people to >care for the opening band. That's why they have Sardonica, people don't >care for that band. Don't get me wrong, I saw them in Toronto and I >thought they were good, but they don't have any records and nobody knows >them. Oh on the contrary,I think a great opening band makes the eveing much more enjoyable. And one to rememeber for a long time.It can make the time pass alot more quickly. You see if there is a great opening act like DRI your up enjoying getting right into them.As opposed to Sardonica your sitting there looking at your watch,oh man these guys have played way to long when are the 'Fits coming on?Then after the crappy opening band is done people just whine and complain.Which like I said makes the night go alot slower and less enjoyable.I've only seen DRI twice each time blew me away and everybody else. Nobody knows them and don't have any records.Where have you been son?well it depends how old you are I guess. They have been around since at least '85 and have quite a few discs out.DRI really took off when thrash-metal started getting popular like in the early 90's.It's to bad these guys are not more "popular" like succeses wise, cause they are one of the best and most hardest working bands to come from that era.Nuff said sorry about the length. //Brad// "Austin 3:16 says I just whipped your ass!" ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 14 Apr 1997 10:55:52 -0400 From: Tarry Carapezza Subject: Part 1 This Bible post is broken up into three parts for easier digestion. Part 1: The Show Saw our man Jake Starr's band Adam West at the 9:30 Club here in DC on Saturday. For those not familiar with the 9:30, it is THE club in DC. I saw The Misfits for the first time there last year. The 9:30 is where all the major tours stop in DC. I've seen Luscious Jackson, the Genitorturers, Fugazi, the Pogues, ect... there. You get the picture. Seeing Adam West there was a real treat. I mean, seeing Adam West at the same place I first saw the Misfits, how cool is that! Getting to hang backstage at the 9:30 was the bomb. The door price ($8) was a downer, but I drank my fair share of the beer backstage. (sorry guys) Got to meet Jake Starr's dad too. He was a real cool guy. Getting to see Adam West play with a real P.A. was also rockin'. These guys are so good. Their energy for this show was through the roof. You could tell they were stoked to be playing the 9:30. The sound was the best I've heard from them ever, despite one pulled cord. They pulled out all the stops fer this one, including having go-go dancers (I kid you not) for 4 or 5 songs. There was even some freak who thought he knew the chorus to the song 'Speedbump' and tried to sing with Jake. (o.k., that was me) ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 14 Apr 1997 10:56:00 -0400 From: Tarry Carapezza Subject: Part 2 Part 2: the CD What also made the show special was that it was the release party for Adam West's long awaited CD 'Mondo Royale'. I got a copy at the show. The cover is way cool, and features friend of the band Trixie. Turns out Trixie was also one of the featured go-go dancers of the evening. Before I talk about the music, I have to share a personal moment. I couldn't wait to get home, so I took the plastic off the CD on the Metro. I was reading the lyrics & liner notes, and then I saw it.... There was my name in the 'Thank Yous'. In fact, Mark Kennedy, D-Rod, Denmom, and CG are all in the Thank Yous by name, and the entire Misfits Bible in mentioned too. If that's not reason enough to buy this CD, I don't know what is. Just so everyone knows, all the songs on this CD are new. None of the 7" songs from the past are on it. They did a great job capturing their 'sound' on the CD. All the energy is there, the booming bass is there, the wha-wha pedal is there, all the things that make Adam West Adam West are there. My favorite songs so far are 'Upside Down', 'Speed Bump', 'Wrong Way Ronnie' & 'Woke Up On the Ceiling'. They also do an interesting cover of Velvet Underground's 'Venus in Furs'. Bottom Line, get the CD! E-mail Jake Starr right now! If you happen to live in the DC area, or if yer gonna visit anytime soon, Tower Records is carrying it as well. ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 14 Apr 1997 10:56:05 -0400 From: Tarry Carapezza Subject: Part 3 Part 3: The Scoop Some of you may not care about this, if not just scroll down. I happened to run into Ian MacKaye at the Adam West show on Saturday. He said Fugazi wouldn't be playing in DC for a while. He explained that while on tour in Australia, he suffered from a collapsed lung. He was hospitalized for 10+ days in Australia, and they canceled the dates for Australia and New Zealand. They will eventually do make up dates sometime this year. He said they are working on their new record, but the live home video project has been put off 'till September. I asked him if he had heard the new Rollins Band CD yet, he said he had. But he said the more they produce their records, the further they get away from what he thinks is their true sound. I couldn't agree more. Then he said, "I think their best work is the stuff I produced". While I totally agree that 'Do It' it leagues better than the new one, I think it's just funny to hear someone say , 'they were cool when they were my band, now they suck'. ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 14 Apr 1997 13:48:43 -0400 (EDT) From: "The Evil Midnight Bomber What Bombs At Midnight" Subject: Perfect Crime My friend got the collection, and said it's not there. It is a way around paying royalties for releasing these songs on CD. I mean - I firmly believe Kiss had something to do with the leak of their unreleased 1996 album Carnival of Souls, as well as some of the other very high quality Kiss bootlegs out there. It may or may not be true - but it does make sense. As for the first "punk" band to sign with a major label - several people have offered up several different answers to this. I guess it depends (as one person pointed out) on what your definition of "punk" is. For example, some would call the NY Dolls punk - others wouldn't, and they released their first album in 72 or 73. The Clah's first came out in 75. As for the "official" Sex Pistols releases - there are also multiple versions of both Never Mind the Bollocks and Swindle. As for the others, yes Virgin has capitalized on the success by officially releasing some former bootleg material of demos and such, and some of these early demos are much better than the Bollocks versions, before their producer helped Steve and Paul to develop their "wall of sound". BTW - did you know that Glen Matlock, although no longer in the band, played bass on almost every track of Bollocks cuz Sid couldn't do it. Yeah Art - the D Gen tapes were cool - thanx. Daddy had far too much important work to do but he promised he would catch up with us at the "clubhouse" ( his pet name for our little beach bungalow). Without Daddy I knew that I would be the "man of the house" eveen though we would not really be in the house at all but out chasing horseshoe crabs across the dunes and reenacting our favorite scenes from the crow, of course I always got to be Brandon, so tortured yet so strong and resolved. But I'm digressing, the real fun started one crisp , clear morning as we took our first of many constitutionals along the sands of Albuquompinog sound. I was wearing my new surf clam diggers and pylon crew tee( J. Crew catalog, Spring 97 p.54) and feeling quite confidant about my place in the world. I felt a bit mischievous and I thought it would be a real hoot if I ran ahead and hid behind a sand dune until just the perfect moment when I would leap from my secret spot and do a raucously scandalous impression of Dom Delouse from the final scene of The Apple Dumpling Gang, in my opinion his greatest work. I saw myy opportunity when Mommy and Sis stopped to pick up a syringe that had floa! ted into one of the tidal pools. I ran as if I were the goddess Protacrenus herself and bounded headfirst over the largest sand dune I could find. You can imagine my surprise when instead of landing in a softly crumbling pile of mussel shells and seaweed I went face first into Glen Danzig. After apologizing for my rudeness , I could barely contain my torent of emotions and quickly showered him with praise, telling him how sometimes I too felt just like a teenager from mars and i too didn't care. He was about to explain his sleeping in the sand dunes when it occured to me that my birthday party was thet night and wouldn't it be just smashing if he came. When I offered the plan he was so enthusiastic he grabbed me and tried to kiss me on the mouth. At the last moment before our lips met I realized that Mommy and Sis woul;d be wheeling around that bend at any momenmt so I politely slipped from his grip and told him I would see him at the party. When I told Mommy and Sis they didn't believe me and for some reason Glenny never showed up at my party. But that's O.K. he probably had to go " Where eagles Dare" if you know what I mean , and I think you do. ------------------------------ From: MISFITS337@aol.com Date: Mon, 14 Apr 1997 15:40:59 -0400 (EDT) Subject: Re: Misfits Bible #321 i hung out with joey ramone and cj ramone down in the basement at coney island high and they are both great guys. ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 14 Apr 1997 13:24:23 -0700 From: Neil McAllister Subject: Re>Misfits Bible #321 Matt G. I've asked `Tammy bout this, and I don't think she said anywhere this. I would steal a copy from my bro's work if I knew that it was worth that much. For my own collection of course. I mean, if it's that "rare", why would I want to sell it? and then the Misfits "Box Set" 4xCD set in a coffin, first press, sealed $75? $75???? I could still get it for under $50 sealed. And was there really such thing as a first pressing for that? And then you try to sell the Violent World CD for $15? Hopefully that's with shipping and handling cause I can still find that for under $12 here. I don't know. Maybe your just trying to "help" some of us out that can't find some of these things. I guess the tribute album might be reasonable for overseas Fiends that can't find it, but the rest? I just thought that it could be fun for you all to see what Jerry Only told a Swedish magazine called Close-Up (sells around 2 million issues / magazine). The new line up is on the cover and its in Swedish so Im sorry if the translation gets weird - Im sure I messed up spelling and grammar... oh well, hopefully it makes some sense. Here are some of the stuff Jerry said: "... When it comes to the lyrics, there is one major thing that is unusual today - they are very strong, but contains no cussing whatsoever. The title "American Pshyco" dont just point to the book, it points to us too. We are a bunch of crazy Americans that travels around the world and makes hella much noise." "...We met (Michale) through our old sound man George Jermaine. He works in a studio in the city Lodi in New Jersey, were we originate from. I had a cassette which was recorded during a concert 1977 or 1978, where we played "Blue Christmas". The instruments was badly recorded, but Glenns vocals was awesome, so we went to Lodi and recorded the music again. When we were in the studio, the owner came and told us about Michale who then was in a local band, since he knew we were looking for a new singer." "Glenn could usually only sing around a hour before he got tired, but we have done shows with Michale that lasted over two hours.... He (Michale) is a really cool guy, he is like a little brother for me and both my wife and my kids love him. I much rather fail with Michale behind the mic then win with Glenn. It is that simple." "But to be totally honest, it wasnt the abscence of Glenn as frontman that I was most worried about. With the fact that he wrote the large part of the songs in mind, I was mostly worried that that part would be the hardest. But look at how it turned out, we wrote new 35 songs in two months.... We do fine without Glenn, and Im sure people will realize that when they hear "American Psycho"." "I really only liked the Snapcase and Farside versions (of Violent World of course). The other stuff is good, but it didnt knock me out. I think its a good example of Carolines bad taste to release a tribute right before we release "American Psycho", that was really a blow below the belt. Because we are a new band now, so I thought they could let us release our first record before they made us into dinosaurs with a tribute." "But, that is Caroline. They dont give a shit about us, except selling our records." What does Misfits have that no other group has? Jerry figures it is honesty: "All new music deals with violence - or worse - politics. I would rather sit at home, eat popcorn and watch a black and white monster movie than care about politics. The way I see it, Misfits has a place in todays music. Misfits aint something you just can say is in the past. Our concept is so powerful that it do not matter if the rice price in China goes up or down, we are not controlled by any trends or whats hot for the moment. Rolling Stones are Rolling Stones, Beatles are Beatles and Misfits are Misfits - we have our place. Now its our time to show what we are about and stand for." And that, ladies and gentlemen, we should only be grateful about. (End of article) A question: What does the "Left hand black" thing mean? Its in both Danzig and Samhain songs... would love to find out what that is about..... thanks in advance :) Have a good one, Cenobite ------------------------------ Date: 15 APR 97 17:29:57 EDT From: AZawodny@mobile.bam.com Subject: oh yea... UPDATE AND DEADLINE Hey there Fiends, Myself and AZ have decided to set a deadline for tape entries into the Bible Bands Tribute To The Misfits: "From Hell They Came..." THIS DEADLINE IS MAY 1ST, 1997 This gives everyone two weeks to record whatever you want to send for the tape. After that, AZ and I will have some last minute work to do, to get this thing ready for you all to hear. SO GET THOSE TAPES TO US! Here's the latest info on the project: Kevin Kuder has submitted a great piece of art for the cover of the tape and/or CD. This artwork is really cool and is worth the price of the tape just to get this excellent drawing. Picture the cover of Earth AD, only, its in this evil church and the Chrimson Ghost is in the middle, at the alter, dressed like a priest, and the pews are lined with all kinds of freaky looking ghouls. If you want to get a good idea of Kevin's brilliant work, I urge everyone to check out his webpage at: http://www.student.toplinks.com/hp/Kuder/ Kevin also has a great Misfits related package for sale called the Misfits portfolio. He used to have this to view on one of his pages, but none the less, if you cant find it, perhaps Kevin can point the way with more info. His e-mail addy is: klk@gwis.com Please check his stuff out, it's great. John Andino from Green Hell has also drawn something for the project but I have yet to receive this. Tim, e-mail me if you have already sent this or let me know when it's coming. The following bands have submitted music that I have sent out to AZ and he has already worked on, and will be included on the tape: 1. Devilock 2. The Idiot Police 3. The Fiend Club 4. The Unfits 5. If you are in this band or know who they are, please e-mail us with more info. The following bands have contacted ME or AZ, but havent sent their tapes yet and need to get their asses in gear: 1. Stewart Gallacher (although you just e-mailed me) Hey guys and gals, e-mail me if you're on this list and give me an update on where or when these tapes are gonna arrive. Also, Jake Starr has also been kind enough to send out left over tapes from bands that did not make it to the "4 Hits" EP. But, even if you were one of these bands, please still send tapes to us as he does not have everything that was sent to him. Send tapes to Noss or AZ: "From Hell They Came..." Friday My band played a show and I saw some guy there that I knew. He said he had the promo to the new Misfits album and we went out to his car to listen to it. I stood outside the car and listened to most of it. I am not saying it was good or bad. I am just warning you what to expect. Some of you will like my desctription and will love it and some will hate it. Here it goes. I'm not going to review songs. This album is a cross between the Misfits and Kryst The Conqeror. There is definetly a heavy metal feel to it. The whole thing isn't Metallica palm muted riffs, but it has that feel and there are actuallt palm mutes. It's very musical. Like, I heard parts where everyone would stop and let Doyle do quick heavy metal lead scales. I heard parts where everyone would speed up into the thrash thing. It sounds like they're trying to appeal to the thrash audience. The reason I'm not going to be mad when I get it is because I don't think it's the Misfits so it's not going to bother me. I RESPECTFULLY THINK IT IS JERRY AND DOYLE'S NEW BAND. When I went to see the Misfits at the Fillmore in S.F. back in August, I was more like "I'm going to see Jerry and Doyle in real life." Than I was, "It's the Misfits!" They didn't have to call themselves the Misfits, it's a new band. Soon they will be playing mostly new songs anyway. It's not the Misfits and there's nothing wrong with that. There are whoa oh's. but it's got an 80's metal feel to it. You have to keep in mind while listening to this that Jerry and Doyle's favorite bands are Judas Priest and Iron Maiden. That's why it's more metal than punk. I don't think that this album is going to ever be as timeless as the older stuff. How classic do you think the chorus "You're never gonna catch me, you're never gonna catch me, you're never gonna catch me, I'm the Crimson Ghost" is??? I'm going to buy it and there will be some songs on it I like maybe I'll grow to like the whole thing. Heck, I didn't like The Misfits when I first heard them. But this is truelly something new and we have to take it as that. Jerry said he was going to start where the Misfits left off. In a way, he did cuz it has an 80's feel to it. There, be warned! Strange Samhain thing. Tonight I was watching a video tape from my video camera. The tape was stuff all from 1993. There was footage of me trying to play guitar when I first started. I couldn't even play full power chords. I was just playing the root note and the fifith. My guitar was out of tune too. The riff I was playing on my guitar sounded cool so I concentrated on it and low and behold, I was playing the chorus to The Hungry End in the same rythem and everything. The A B G Gb. That was 93' I didn't start listening to Samhain till about a year ago. It was a weird find. :) Remember I'm looking for a replica boot of Horror Business, NOTLD, 3 Hits, and Halloween. with inserts. From posting in here, I'm already trading a guy a Harlock shirt for a cough/cool boot so posting in here is working. If I keep posting, eventually someone in here, for example is going to get sick of their HB boot, see my post and sell or trade it to me. :) I am also looking for the AngelFuck boot (Maryln on cover) and the Static Age Demo E.P boot. Questions 1) Why didn't Caroline ask to put out the new "Misfits" album? American Psycho not being on Caroline leads me to beleive they're doing it for the money and will break up after their first contract is complete. 2) How did Glenns nose get broken inabling him to get 2 nose jobs? 3)I heard Mike Muir beat Glenn up extensivly in the pit one time at some show. Is that true? 4) What "trouble" would Doyle have been in if he didn't go along with the resurrection? Someone in here said something about that. Like was it money he owed or something? 5)I didn't expect the Evilive reissue on CD and LP to come out this soon. When is the Static Age Album coming out? Is it going to have the original cover planned on it? Are they going to remix it again? if you listen, on most of the songs YOU CAN BARELY HEAR THE SNARE DRUM!!!!!!! Isn't the two extra tracks to be released on it Spinal Remains with different lyrics and some version of She? 6) Any news on the Sawin box set? As far as not understanding Glenn's lyrics, I have to funny ones. On Martian I thought he said "Times like this I wanna slit my throat." but it's "Times like this I hardly never sleep at night." my version makes more sense. On Black Dream I used to think he said "Pretty pretty pretty black boy, your lips are hung up a pole." but it's "Pretty.....Black one, your lips I hunger for." Listen to it; it sounds like it. And on Killer Wolf Before I read the lyrics, I thought he said "I killed a mexican" but I found out it was "I curl up next to you." Anyone ever notice that Damian had atleast 3 different Ibanez Iceman guitar's? That was the exclusive Doyle guitar. kinda weird. Oh and before I go, don'cha think Eerie's collection is priced a little high? I think it's priced that way cuz we think we'll pay it cuz it's from "Eerie Von!" One thing about that though, I'm sure everything is in super mint condition. Tour and I have to say, I was mightily impressed. I saw the Misfits just over a year ago at the London Astoria and to be honest it could have been a different band. Last time they were sloppy, the mix was dreadful (Graves might as well have not even been there) and there were only one, maybe two, new songs played. I'm not into giving the full set list (not that I can even remember it) but they played most of the usual 'old' set list plus around 6 or 7 new tracks, all but one of which were very, very impressive. As far as the Misfits Vs. Danzig thing goes I've always thought that there's no fair way to judge the 'new' Misfits until their own material is heard. All I can say is that I don't think people will feel let down by this new album. If the songs are as strong as the ones played live then I think most people will be a little surprised at just how 'Misfits' this album really is. The early comparisons that the new stuff is like Earth AD crossed with WAU seem spot on, the music echoes EAD while the vocals and melodies are most reminiscent of WAU, although one new track is maybe a little too close to the Hybrid Moments melody lines for comfort... Anyway, the show... they came out to the usual 'wall of noise' doomy music intro and just let rip totally. Chud's playing seems to have improved dramatically although his progression seems slight compared to Doyle's playing... Christ, the guy even managed to curtail his feedback once or twice between songs. Seriously, Doyle absolutely plays his ass off these days. For all you guitar demolition fans, it only took him half way through the second song (Horror Business) to destroy the first one! The image is overall the same as usual although Michale Graves does look a little silly in his Evil Dead 'grandma' blacked out teeth and make up. His voice is fine though, the mix is actually amazing on the new tour and his vocals are upfront and audible throughout... he DOES use a lot of effects on the newer stuff and on some of the older stuff such as Come Back. To his credit he did a fine job of whipping up the (notoriously apathetic) London crowd... the pit for the final half of the set must have numbered 300 out of the 800 present, mainly due to Graves' constant calls for people to get into the stuff. One hilarious moment came 4 songs into the set when Graves offered the mike to the crowd and some guy shouted 'Where the fuck's Glenn?'... Jerry shot Graves a weird 'Don't do anything' look and Doyle actually looked up for the one time during the entire show. Graves replied 'Up my ass' as Jerry shouted 'At home in bed'. It got even funnier when the guy in the crowd started yelling at Graves who then invited the guy on stage for a fight... as soon as the guy actually looked like he was getting up, Graves turned white (even under his facepaint!). At this point Doyle just strode over and raised his arm and the guy in the crowd practically lost his lunch into his trousers... Graves looked a bit dumb standing behind Doyle laughing though, talk about 'My brother's bigger than your brother'... All in all though the show was great... far, far better than they were last year and to be honest, I really did enjoy myself (something that just doesn't seem to happen too often at shows these days). Considering this was the first date of the tour these guys are either going to be totally stunning when they hit the States or totally knackered and useless... you can't ask for a band to give more then 100% and this time at least, that's just what they did. As for the supports... Sardonica were awful. Sal was chatting to people before and after the show and seems a genuinely nice guy but unfortunately the band's music just plain sucks. Did they copy Kryst or was it the other way round?? Sub Zero were much better, total NY hardcore with absolutely no frills but then that's what they're into. The singer was pretty wild and all in all they got a good response. I don't know how old the guys are but they can't be much over 20/21 years old so it's a little weird to hear them drum on constantly about 'Bringing it back to the old days man' but that's just a minor point. They'll go down well in Europe but I wouldn't mind betting there's a whole slew of very similar, and probably superior, bands in NY. One last thing, anyone else on the Bible from Britain that is going to one of the shows, please look out for a (really) fat guy in a terrible grey wool suit who is the promoter. The guy is a grade A asshole... really. It's a real shame that the Misfits have to go through a fool like him to book their tour. He managed to book one date in a club that's closed for this month, meaning the venue is now switched to one over 60 miles away which will have NO advance promotion (he'll be the first to whine when it doesn't make him any money) and booked them into a venue that was far too small in London and charged #10 a ticket (most other shows at the Garage go for #4 maybe #5). He has NO regard or respect for the Misfits and is purely in this for the money. He also promotes other hardcore/punk shows in London and is laughing at the people that go to these shows and the bands themselves. As one of many examples, the band had official posters for sale for #2 in the venue and this guy had gotten some printed up from the advance posters he'd been given and was selling them for #1 outside the venue after the show... a promoter bootlegging the band he's promoting?!? Jesus Christ. Unfortunately I couldn't get his name out of the lackeys he had with him (I think they could sense I was close to hitting the fucker) but anyone else who sees him should tell him to his face what a total asswipe he is... once you've actually gained entry to the venue of course :) ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 16 Apr 1997 08:31:54 -0400 From: Scott Perry Subject: New misfits fan Hi, I just started listening to the misfit cause i herd they covered some of my favrite metallica songs, i herd they covered a guns n roses song I like two. Well it depends how old you are I guess..." I'm 26 and have been a fan of DRI since Dealing with it came out. When I said "nobody knows them..." I was talking about Sardonica. Sorry if I wasn't clear enough. I would enjoy seeing DRI or any other band that I like opening for the Misfits, but I can tell from my experience that people don't have too much respect when they have to wait for THE band thay came to see. I saw the ramones 4 times and each time many people were screaming "ramones, ramones" during the entire set of the first band. Charming words of praise for the label that put out supposedly the first Misfits release Jerry and Doyle ever made any money from -- a $60 box set (a little better profit margin than a single CD, I warrant). But I suppose Geffen are a much more nurturing and caring environment for a "DIY all the way" band like the new Misfits...? Anyone care to tell me WHY there isn't supposed to be any swearing on new Misfits songs? Didn't anyone tell Jerry MTV will bleep the naughty parts and you can still get your video on the air? Danzig's on a Disney-owned label now, and he still has a song about fucking corpses on his album... I just had my lungs pierced, anyone have any words of wisdom or advice? In the very near future I am buying a CD-BURNER, so I can burn my own CD's, and possibly CD's for people on here cheap. I was thinking of buying a CD duplicator also. It's $1599.. totally self-contained unit with it's own microprocessor. You just stick a CD in and press start.. it copies the CD to it's internal hard drive, and then you put in a blank CD and the exact CD is duplicated. rabid doctor http://www.mindpulse.com/users/redrum ------------------------------ From: rabid.doctor@mindpulse.com Date: Wed, 16 Apr 1997 14:03:28 -0500 Subject: I was pi$sed about the Action Park show last year.
