I address this question often in mail to fiend@plan-9.com. The band gets hundreds of letters each week. In the old days they used to respond to it all. Now, they read it, and if you're not in the Fiend Club database, you are added. Sometimes, a letter is unique enough to receive a response of some sort, but this doesn't happen nearly as often as it did a few years ago when they had more time and fewer letters. By the way fiends, thanks for keeping the email to fiend@plan-9.com low over the past week. Things with the Misfits Bible should get back to normal for a while now. They both said "Geffen" as their response, so, there ya go ;) John ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 9 Jul 1997 06:20:35 -0400 (EDT) From: "Russ... but probably Bryan" Subject: Misfits Mother-In-Law Sighting!!!! Howdy y'all. I was sleeping around 11:30 PM (I got summer courses and I'm TIRED) when my pal Demetrios, and only fellow fiend in my town of Kinnelon (Close to Vernon) called me. We were both at the Irving Plaza show on June 19th and had bought the "Twenty Years of Terror" t-shirt. Anyways, he was wearing his t-shirt when he and his girlfriend went to the local "mall" (It has about five stores). He was walking around with his big-ass crimson ghost design when some "old lady" nonchalantly came up to him and said, "You like the Misfits?" "Sure do" (Or something to that effect) "Oh. Well I'm Doyle's mother-in-law." "No way!" Anyway, they talked a little bit. I was half asleep as he was telling me this. Anyway, she was buying formula for Doyle's five-month-old son. She really seems to love Doyle and is glad that her daughter was lucky enough to bag that Italian Stallion. I still want to know what the hell his real name is and why his name was "PC Doyle" in the beginning. But I digress. In other news, Suncoast Movie Company is having a martian sale where everything sci-fi/horror in the store is 10% off. 20% if you buy two movies. So those of you who have been putting off buying "This Island Earth" or "Plan 9 From Outer Space" this is the time to act. In case you care I ended up buying a Marilyn Monroe t-shirt. I plan on getting "5:25 August 5th 1962" printed on the back. Party on, Wayne. ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 09 Jul 1997 10:00:30 -0500 From: punkture Subject: Box set Did all of you fiends get a fiend club badge in UR box set if it wasn't a first pressing?A guy who works at my local indy record shop got a first pressing and it had a fiend club badge, but two of my friends and myself each got a box set that weren't a first pressing and neither of us got a fiend club badge. What is up with that?If you can help me on this question please e-mail me. Not a big fan of 16 myself, but in the style of music they play they're pretty good. I'm more in a need for speed mentality myself. If you want to complete a discography of theirs, you have to pick up the Pushead Fan Club issues...good luck. Finally...being a resident of the Northeast quadrant of the United States, yeah, I noticed the Misfits were around. Did actually end up going once at the request of some associates...I'll refrain from comment on the music, but I will say Jerry is a little too old to be pulling off the horror schtick too convincingly. When I'm his age I hope to not be earning my bread from playing worn-out cover tunes of the punk era in a full-fledged violent gothic outfit. Did get the chance to say hi to him after the show...second time I met him...and he's very personable and friendly...of course, seems a little too personable and friendly and perhaps I judged him harshly because of...well...all the horrible things I hear about him. Not a bad guy, at least for a four minute visit. Also, if anyone else attended that Rhode Island hardcore festival thing last weekend...rock on. There were some asskicking bands there. From what I saw, these guys are getting very very tight (I left after Halloween cuz I was rather ill and probably should have stayed home to begin with). They were also shooting video footage for two videos: Dig Up Her Bones & American Psycho. I also did an interview with Jerry who sat down and talked to us for over half an hour. I'll let everyone know when I get it transcribed, but for the time being, some info: Opening for Megadeth is, in Jerry's opinion, a good deal. He does not want the Misfits to be a club band, he wants them to be an arena band. He basically wants the Fits to be the next Metallica. SO they are doing the shows for the exposure they will get. If Jerry gets his way, we will see a limited edition set of 7-inches from the new album, 3 altogether, each on a different colour vinyl. They plan to be back at the 9:30 Club in D.C. (they really like the venue) at Halloween at which time they will bring a film crew along to record footage for a video of MONSTER MASH (which they are going to release around Halloween as a single). He really is not looking backwards and, in his words, by the time the next album comes out, everyone will forget about Danzig ever being in the band. Static Age for the box set was re-mastered off of Francie Coma's cassette of the recording, but the new album is from the Master tapes which he says Glenn "found" after the box came out. He also is NOT HAPPY about Static Age being released right now - he thinks that, and the reissues of Earth AD & Evilive on CD and the tribute album (which he does not like) might hurt AP cuz Caroline's flooding the market with Fits stuff. He says he wishes they would have held off til AP had been out for a while, but he said that Caroline was just doing their job of "kissing Glenn's ass". Oh well - that's all I remember now. I have to type it up for my magazine this weekend, so I will post a copy to my site. ++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ Stephen Gorny + Department of Psychology + Rules to Live By #6: UMBC + 1000 Hilltop Circle + Don't ask the question Baltimore, MD 21250 + if you can't live with the answer +-------------------------------------------------- sgorny1@umbc2.umbc.edu + The Atomic Garden - http://members.aol.com/swgims ++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 10 Jul 1997 09:20:19 -0400 From: Tarry Carapezza Subject: Megadeth at 9:30 Club I read on the Pollstar site that the Misfits/Megadeth tour will hit the DC area on August 19th. Faces has too much boring dialogue and weak death scenes. Traces of death however, has more gore, less talking, and a death metal soundtrack to accompany the unfortunate souls final minutes. Parts 1-3 are available here and there and part 4 should be out (I haven't run across it yet). I can make copies of 1-3 for people from my copies if you can't find them. Well anyway, I just thought I would review it now.... TROUBLEMAKERS- These guys perform "AngelFuck" and "Where Eagles Dare"... very old shcool punk... I like these covers a lot... ENTOMBED- They perform "Hollywood Babylon". I was surprised to see ENTOMBED perform "Hollywood Babylon" (I thought they would perform some "Earth A.D. type Thrash...) but it is a good cover nonetheless (I am into the whole Death Metal thing....) WOLFPACK- They perform "Death Comes Ripping". This is a great Death Metal version... very energetic. MOBILE MOB FREAKSHOW- They perform "BloodFeast" and "Bullet. More Great covers... Blood Feast is sort of doomy and "Bullet" is like the traditional Misfits version (With Death Metal vocals of course) BALZAC- They do "Devils Whorehouse". I don't know... I just don't like it. I dont like the singing and what they did to the music.... THE 69 EYES- They do "Return of the Fly". This is a cool cover, but I dont like it when the does a high pitched scream THE ROBOTS- They do "Night of the Living Dead". The beginnning of this song sounds exactly like The Misfits "NOTLD" with the "Whoaaaa"'s... this is probably one of my favorite songs on the whole album.... DERANGED- They do "Some Kind Of Hate" and "Green Hell". The version of "Some Kind of Hate", to tell you the truth, sucks. Don't get me wrong, I like bands like Cannibal Corpse, Mayhem, Cradle of Filth (Death metal is practically my life), but I just cant get into "Some Kind Of Hate". "Green Hell" is another story... I like this cover (when I heard of a Swedish Misfits tribute I knew there would be lots of Death metal bands, knowing Sweden has spawned many great Death Metal acts)... The "Green Hell" cover is basically Grindcore LEFT HAND SOLUTION- They Do "She" and "Hybrid Moments". It is weird to hear these covers right after Deranged. I did not like the version of "She" (too soft for me), although the lead singer is incredibly talented. "Hybrid Moments" is another story- I like it, and I usually dont like this kind of stuff GEHENNAH- They do "Ghouls Night Out" and "Queen Wasp". I have heard a lot of this band (they are part of the "retro-thrash" movement).... these are probably two of my favorite songs on the whole album (right up there with the Robots and Tenebre).. anyway the version of "Ghouls Night Out" crushes Goldfinger's pathetic version, and "Queen Wasp" is very energetic: very thrashy. TENEBRE- They do "Halloween II" and "Vampira". "Halloween II" is very spooky: sort of like the Samhain version, and the vocals sound like ghosts chanting. There are also cool bells in the beginning (it is Hammer Horror all over again!)..."Vampira" is great as well, and includes sounds from "Plan 9" in it.... These are two of my faves on the album. ASTRO ZOMBIES- They do "astro Zombies" and "London Dungeon". These are two more great covers. They have speeded up "astro Zombies" and "London Dungeon" is still slow, doomy, and spooky. In "London Dungeon", he singer sounds a little like Glenn (maybe when he was like 12) and "astro zombies" is your traditional Punk vocals. GREENSCAB- They Do "Devilock" and "Children and Heat". "Devilock" is extremely fast and energetic- just made me want to get up and dance. "Children in Heat" they have speeded up as well, but I don't like it very much (they have these keyboard effects that sound like Disco!) GENOCIDE- They do "Demonomania". This is basically Grindcore- sort of like old Napalm Death with no High Pitched screams, and the singer is not as deep as Napalm Death.. RETURN OF THE MISFITS- They do "Earth A..D." and "Who Killed Marilyn". These are two great covers, in traditional Misfits sound. BACKYARD BABIES- They do "Teenagers From Mars". ANother great song- traditional Misfits style with backup vocals and they snuck in a guitar solo as well. THE HELLACOPTERS- THey do "Bullet". Another great cover... lots of backup vocals.... DEMONS- They do "Children In Heat" and "She". These two covers are better than the other versions of these songs on the album, but I dont these Demons covers that much.... I guess I sort of hoped some Scandanavian Black Metal with a name like Demons (and I was also Disappointed that Emperor wasnt included on this album, after all these bands are European) SEX SEX SEX- They do "Horror Hotel" and "Halloween". With a name like this, how can you go wrong. Anyway, "Return of the Fly" is sort of industrial (and I am into that kind of stiff) and "Halloween" sounds sort of like it should be on "Black Aria"- I like how they did that. Overall, this was a great album. It was much better than "violent world"... and the packaging on this is great too- the cover has Marilyn and JFK in coffins and a skeleton above them and on the inside it has pictures of each band and also a bio or disogrophy or whatever All for now, UNDEAD ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 10 Jul 1997 23:16:36 -0700 From: "Adam R." I suppose this interview was held when the Misfits visited the Netherlands (april97). It tells something about Glenn, and the disfunctional relationship between Doyle and Graves. It also had a great picture with it. You don't blame me for all those mistakes mistakes: I had to translate it from Dutch to English, which is a hell of a job, at least for me. (NB "Dutch is the national language from the Netherlands, and not from Germany. This is important, because when you call a Dutchman a German, you are insulting him. Like you call an American a "Lybian" or an "Iranian"). PERFECT FITTING MISFITS Founded by Glenn Danzig, adored by Metallica and Henry Rollins, and still make your money in a factory. This has been the destiny for Jerry Only and the other Misfits. But with the termination of a dragging lawsuit against Danzig, and a deal with Geffen, there has appeared some light in the dark Misfits ghost-tunnel. "We are not occupied with bad energy, the Misfits are a positive energy". Jerry Only (38) is not a real Misfit for two reasons. First: the bassplayer is a nice guy with a big smile on his face. Second: also in society he is no outsider. He's taking care for his wife and two children. As a proud father and a frank story-teller, his stories are always wandering to his basketballplaying son and his cheerleading daughter. He's just an ordinary family-man, with one exception: at night he's putting white schmink on his face and is playing songs like "dig up her bones". Maybe he is a misfit between the misfits ? No ,that was Glenn Danzig, the frontman who started the horror-punkband together with Jerry, and stole the hearts of skate kids, metalfans and punkers, with albums like "walk among us "(82) and "Earth AD/Wolfsblood"(83). Danzig left, to gain succes as a solo-artist. The last concert was at Halloween1983. "Evil Elvis" left Jerry. The long struggle about the name of the band finally ended last year with a compromise. The zombies could leave their graves. . . . With drummer Dr. Chud, brother Doyle and youngster Michael Graves(22) behind the microphone, Jerry could start again. After some re-releases and compilations the new album appeared: American Psycho, a tight collection Misfits-core, sung with remarkable character by Graves. The "baby of the band" really had to fight for acceptence, because he was totally unknown with the Fits ! He knew Glenn Danzig, that was music with which he grew up. First Graves asked around about the Misfits. He heard that, once during a show in San Francisco, the Misfits got involved in a fight, with the audience throwing full cans of Bud to the stage, and Doyle ruining a guy's head with his bassguitar. Graves:"I thougt:Oh my god". And he was right, because fanatic Danzig-addepts made it a hard job for Graves. "They normaly start throwing things at me, sometimes they even hit me. Unfortunately Danzig-fans are often very big, haha" Graves also had some problems with the band. Especially he had some clashes with the dour Doyle."He didn't like me, it took a long time before we had a kind of a relationship. But we where forced to work together, and now whe are the biggest friends, he's like a brother to me". In the corner of the dressing-room, the silent Doyle stares icy in the direction of Graves. Jerry has heard everything. "From the toilet" he says when he suddenly comes in. Immediate he takes it over. "Michael was destined to work with us, especially because of that bullshit we had all those years". The term "punk godfathers" is flatteringly, but also scary,Jerry says."You must know that whe didn't come back because of the punk-revival, we came back because the Misfits are still becoming better. And not because we had to prove ourselves to the youngsters, because i don't have to prove anything. The Misfits are an important part of our society. Look to Dylan or the Stones, they had something to say, like us". And like Glenn. When he hears the new of his old friend, he immediately looses his last tact. "Aaa,Glenn. He tries very hard to be evil. I don't like him, he owes me $900.000. We started the band together, he had the same rights as me. Finally we gave him the publishing rights. They are worth a lot, especially after the Metallica cover of Green hell" (on the garage days revisited ep). And we took the bandname.Glenn is only interested in the money, we are only interested in the name". Jerry doesn't think that that the short-tempered Danzig will fly at him when they will meet each other."Oh no, when that happens he knows that i will hurt him. He really has a strange character, Glenn. As a friend he was great, the only time that i quarrelled with him was on the last day of the Misfits. I don't understand him, i always want to share everything. When something occurs, the Misfits must continue. Because our fans are as dedicated as the fans of Grateful dead. You know, once Glenn told everyone that we (the other Misfits) all were dead. And have you seen his Verotik-cartoons. They are only about one thing: tits. Horror and the Misfits belong together. Songs like Night of the living dead, Astro Zombies and Teenagers from Mars are referring to old B-horrormovies. Even their own Plan 9 label refers to Ed Woods "Plan9 from outer space", generally accepted as the worst movie ever! Jerry isn't a fanatic who knows everything about directors and other backgrounds, but he can mention many of his favourite pulp-movies. "As a kid i was fond of "Horror Hotel" from 1960 with Christopher Lee, it scared the shit out of me! I also liked "The Crawling Eye" starring Forrest Tucker from 1958, where gigantic eyeball are coming from outer space. Munster-movies like Gorgo and Godzilla are amazing, but my all- time-favourite is the original Frankenstein from 1931 with Boris Karloff. The movie isn't just a horror-movie , but it is a statement on social scale. It tells something about how we are sometimes threatening people, and how they can go on the wrong track after that. Recently I interviewed Sarah Karloff, the daughter of Boris, for a horror-show that Doyle and me are trying to sell. A special moment. I also like the new horrormovies. Mars attacks, for example. On our new album there is a track called Mars Attacks. I tried to give it to director Tim Burton in time, but in vain. But, maybe we can use it for Mars Attacks2. When I was four years old i opened,on the sly, a small bag with Mars Attack-pictures. My mother didn't agree with it, she said that those pictures were too creepy. I looked at the first picture, and it was the one that showed how some Martians slaughtered a dog. I was very shocked, because I loved my own dog. You see, mother was right again!" ------------------------------------- To contribute to the next issue, please send email to: bible@plan-9.com mailto:bible@plan-9.com (Netscape Mail) For more information, contact Mark Kennedy at: fiend@plan-9.com For answers to most questions, please visit Misfits Central before posting: http://misfits.plan-9.com/ The Misfits mailing address is: Misfits Fiend Club | P.O. True. The new release, however, is NOT from Glenn's master tape. Instead of providing the fans with 2 entirely different mixes of the album, they used Franche's copy of the recording of the 14 songs, and then took the bouns 3 songs from Glenn's copy, as Franche's copy did not have it. How would you like it if Megadeth > fans threw bottles at the Misfits? Sigh. Yawn. Time to fix everything. Megadeth is really weak music. They are basically a rip-off of Metallica, who weren't a particularily good band to begin with. Megadeth's first few albums are nearly a four out of ten on the review scale, but the stupid lyrics, infernally horrible guitar, and perms really don't help me out. NM $75 "Evilive" German 12' by Agressive Rock Produktionen, 1st press Wear and tear on the sleeve, otherwise in pretty good shape. VG $50 Samhain "Unholy Passion" 2nd Press, maroon cover, black vinyl In awesome shape. Bob has the 1st press w/tan cover but wants to keep that one. I grade it a M. $50 That is all... It was my first time seeing the Misfits live though I've been a fan of them for a long time now, and I personally think that Graves is an excellent replacement for Danzig. Who gives a rat's ass if he dresses like Danzig!? He gets the crowd going, and in my opinion is a much better singer than Danzig ever was. I came to this conclusion after hearing the 'Fits play "American Nightmare," which is a song that I have always hated by the Misfits, cos Danzig just sounded retarded. Graves gave the song life, as he has done with all of the other Misfits songs, and he's just a damn good guy to know. After the show, my friends and I hung out with the Misfits who were more than willing to give pictures, autographs, and anything else the fans requested. Cock-rock?! That's bullshit. Though Doyle is kind of quiet, he's still a nice guy, and Jerry, Chud, and Mike are extremely friendly with the fans. I saw the Misfits show in Toronto, Ont. last night, (July 12/97) at the Opera House, and I felt I had to write something. I've been to countless punk shows over several years, and I have never seen a worse crowd. At least 3 fights, each bad enough to stop the show. Michael Graves at one point said something like, "Did you come here to fight or to watch the show? Cause I don't see anybody watching us". It took most of the security crowd to throw them out. After the show, security got in a fight with someone and almost toppled the 12-foot high monitors. They needed the help of the band's crew to throw the guy out. They even turned on the house lights about 2/3 of the way through the show to try to calm the place down. One of the ladies who runs the place was supposedly trying to flag down passing cop cars out front, but the cops wouldn't enter the building before back up arrived, which it didn't, (way to go Toronto police!). As if that wasn't enough, there were at least 10 rather large guys who decided they wanted to spend the whole show just walking around shoving everyone out of their way as hard as they possibly could. There's always one or two of these at every show, but these guys were real winners. There wasn't even a decent pit going for most of the show thanks to these guys. For a band who bases a significant portion of its image on violence, one might expect a violent crowd, but not to the point of ruining the whole show. And the shit thrown on stage! If you don't like the band, what the fuck are you doing paying money to see them? On behalf of the people who wanted to see a good show, my sincerest apologies to the band for having to deal with the worst crowd I've ever seen. I'll be seeing them again tomorrow night here in London, Ont. and I hope that show will make up for what turned out to be one of the most disappointing shows ever. The crowd was way better last summer, at the same venue - what happened? And to the fucko's bashing everyone and starting fights, next time, STAY HOME! One was entitled "Hellbent". Hmm... same name of one Glenn's publishing companies. I don't know what they sound like however. Anbody know? Okay, here's some more shit I've noticed. Keep in mind it's just my opinion. Any other response/interpretation to it would be appreciated. Maybe someone has a scanned pic of this issue, and could post that they had it for others to judge. Another thing I noticed quite a while ago but forgot to post was that the lettering used for the songs on the front of American Psycho, looked VERY similiar to the lettering used on the front of the movie Salem's Lot. Even i need time away from computers even if i do earn my living infront of one. First off i have some interesting news. Chris Besaw who most of you know as one of the Bible fiends, is also an artist, no not a graphic designer like myself, but a fine artist like ex, Greg who designed the frot of the Bible T-shirt (which i hope to see one day). He designed several hand drawn and silkscreened pieces based on the Misfits when in college. He had shown some of these to the Misfits while they were in NY. Jerry and the gang seemed to really like the art work and after a little talk agreed that Chris could take on pressing and selling one of these designs. No we are not talking another t-shirt, but something more impressive, something you would be proud to frame and hang on your wall. Yes, a Lithograph. This Litho will be pressed on a heavy stock paper, done in Black and White or with one color(depending on the price). the size will be 18"X24". Right now after talking with Chris and some printers, it looks like the price will be set at $10 - 12, which would include shipping and a poster tube. Also the first run will be very limited edition. The image is a collage of many of the different members of the Misfits. If you are interested in possibly purchasing one of these Lithographs, please contact me as soon as possible. See Chris is hoping in getting this done in the next 3 weeks, since at the end of August he will be starting a new college for Animation. So please contact me this week if you would like to get in on this, i will probably talk to him this week to give him the go ahead if enough of the fiends would like one of these wonderful art pieces for their very own. e-mail me at tes777@bridge.net next: if you guys are wondering about those items that Adam R. posted, the prices are very fair for what he has for sale. Plus the price that is on the white three hits is the starting point for what Glenn had claimed was the range in California, $175 -200. please don't hold back cause you hope to pay $30 and some shitty SST records like i did, the guy i got mine from was drunk and stubborn. plus i will get back to Misfits 101 and the listing of the record conventions this week. Date: Mon, 14 Jul 1997 07:11:55 PDT I recently talked with Chud, Only, and Graves at the 9:30 club show, believe me. They have no intention of getting Danzig back. While talking to Graves a member of the Ghouls (a virginia horror punk band) one of the members asked him, "Why was Danzig always such a c*cks*ucker." Graves replied "You would be too if you were 3 ft. tall." Later Chud went on about how big of a "d*ck" Danzig was. So in my honest opinion, i don't really think that the misfits had any intention of asking Danzig to rejoin. Also to those asking about Shocking Return. The album was awarded 2 out of 5 fingers, the fingers being their unique rating system. A few months ago in AP, Glenn Danzig and friends went on about how big punk reunions (the Sex Pistols were mentioned) are pathetic and artistically empty. The secret subtext could well have been this Misfits reunion sans Danzig, the band's first new record since 1983. The title track in return, while nodding to the Bret Easton Ellis serial-killer novel, may well have as its secret subtext Danzig, who has haughtily proclaimed that he would rather make faceless industrial albums 'til the cows come home than he would phone his former friends. Time out, kids. The facts are these: The Misfits have punk bred in the bone and could write a two-finger record in their sleep. But one has to ignore the vocals, whoever's at the mic, as having anyone but Danzig growl cliches about the devil, bodies rising from the grave and assorted B-movie titles just comes off as silly. (Danzig is silly with verve, but let's let Danzig be Danzig) The real question is: Can they go beyond a two-star record? The first side suggests they can, with roiling, saturated riff hunks such as "Walk Among Us", "Blacklight", and "Resurrection". Then, a la Danzig, they overreach on the second side, with longer, poppier tracks that force one face to face with their hopeless corniness("Mars Attacks", "Don't Open 'Til Doomsday"). Prospects fade. Memo to all parties: Truce, anyone? (Geffen) -John Kappes Well, he has missed the mark on this one. The "Glenn Danzig and friends" mentioned were G. D. and Moby. I doubt they're friends. Also, I can find no "secret subtext" in the song "American Psycho" that has to do with Danzig. The lyrics that Mike Graves sings on AP may come off as silly to some, but those lyrics(I dare say, not having written them myself)were not ever meant to be weepingly emotional or gravely serious. Since AP mainly covers artists whose main ambition in life is to be painfully emotional and to be deadly earnest about it, it's no surprise that Mr. Kappes was disappointed in the lack of pain-revealing or soul-wrenching songs. I would imagine that the only soul-wrenching going on in the Misfits' world is when the skinny, vampiric Micheal Graves bares his fangs and drains the life out of innocent teenage girls in the back of the tour bus. There is only one point I can agree with- The Misfits are at their best with short, two minute tracks. Now, one last thing. Why do people think that the Misfits '97 would be so much better with Danzig? His last few albums contain the same re-hashed "left-hand path" rantings, mixed with the same boring sexual imagery. Why would he change his act now, when it seems he has sold himself and his record label on the current Danzig noise. I like the Misfits just the way they are right now. I bet the Misfits do, too. ahren@thesea.com ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 14 Jul 1997 10:14:00 -0400 From: Keshen Subject: misfits and marky i went to the misfits show here in toronto on saturday best fucken show i have ever been too they really do put on an incredible act the highlight had to have been when they called out marky ramone to play the first song of their encore, blitzkreig bop with them it was like a fucken anthem would have been a better concert though if their weren't about 30-40 skinheads trying to beat up everyone well, cya rolo ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 14 Jul 1997 15:18:42 +0000 From: "David L. I did have the pleasure of meeting Michale, Chud (who seemed a little pre-occupied with two blonde bimbos) and Jerry. Doyle cut loose after the show becaused he injured his back. I thought it was quite funny when Michale made the mistake of leaving the beer garden to visit the fans in the under 21 section and then the bouncer wouldn't let him back in, because he didn't look 21 and he didn't believe that "Mikey was with the band". I have been a Misfits fan as long as I can remember - for 12 years after they broke up I always would wish that they got back together, as many of the other fiends did. Now they are back and all everyone wants to do is see them disappear - WHAT IS YOUR PROBLEM??? I saw them last year on the Resurrection tour in Danbury CT and the show was great. I saw them on June 29th at Toads Place in New Haven - this show was even better!!! Aside from all the assholes running in circles bouncing into each other and the morons crowd surfing, I enjoyed this show more than words can possibly describe. Personally - I think Michale Graves is an AWESOME singer who is a singer of his own - he is no Glenn wannabe - he gets the crowd going and is a great guy. Jerry, Doyle, and Chud were awesome too but that goes without saying. I am here to defend Graves - you cannot say "He sucks" and "Bring back Glenn" -- in my opinion I don't want Glenn back. Glenn has his own band and does his comics and does his own thing (by the way Blackaciddevil SUCKS - there's not 1 song I like on it.) American Psycho is a classic Misfits album. I love every song and there is not 1 bad song on it. Glenn would never come back because of the bad blood between him and Jerry and thats good - I wanna see what Michale brings to the band in the long run - AP is a helluva start to the Misfits with him. Watching them play last month I kept saying to myself "Glenn who?" I think Danzig is a great musician who helped start the Misfits become who they are but he is no longer a part of the Misfits anymore. It is now up to the band of '97 to see what is to come in the future of the Misfits. I hope they continue to put out great albums like AP in the future. And get off Michale Graves' back!!!! Hopefully Jerry won't have to "hurt" Glenn, because it would be a shame to see all of Glenn's bodybuilding and martial arts to go to waste -- we all know that knife-manufacturing abilities are far more useful in a fight. -Brett ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 16 Jul 1997 02:45:18 -0400 (EDT) From: Undead138@aol.com Subject: A few things I have to say..... And as Dave Mustaine as a born again Christian.... Have you even heard OF Kryst the Conqureor? Dont you know Jerry is one too? I don't care about religion, however. I just like it for the music. As for being pretty boys, if they wanted to be pretty, they would wear lipstick, mascara..... and also Slayer is far from Cock-rock (like megadeth.... and didnt you know Kerry King was once in Megadeth). Also, you mention liking Napalm Death and Carcass..... those bands would not be around if it wasnt for bands like SLayer, Venom, megadeth, ect., well maybe they would but they wouldnt sound the same. And also i hear Bill steer is in a band that sounds like Iron Maiden.... ANd if there is any constalation, Misfits is on the same label as MANOWAR (oh by the way I like Manowar! Ha!). And "A Tout Le Mounde" is not cock rock! Just cuz a song is sorta soft doesnt mean it is cock-rock... and the vocals on "Killing.....", it is far from Cock-Rock.... I mean the vocals are really raspy, and that is far from Cock-Rock, which is usually high pitched.... "oden" writes: <> I never really considered the misfits to be a punk band, and if they are they are much more advanced then the others back then. I mean, you have songs like "horror Business" and "Bullet", your Punk stuff, then you have this bluesier stuff like "theme for a jackyl" and "cough/cool" and then there is the Speed Metal stuff like "earth A.D." and "Death Comes Ripping". I believe that the author of this post is a "punker than thou" fellow.... Oh yeah, I met jerry and he wasnt very fat..and what the hell are you talking about at the end, glenn being a pussy and not beating up michale or some crap like that. Oh yeah, whoever said that S.O.D. is doing a reunion tour... are they doing a whole tour? I heard they were just doing a few shows in NY and then Milwakee Metalfest and Scott and Charlie are real busy on the new ANthrax. But i heard SOD has a few new songs, namely "THe ballad of Kurt Cobain", which is sorta like an updated version of "The Ballad of Jimmy Hendrix.... Oh yeah, if the misfits make a video, i sorta expected it to be like a huge B-Movie extravaganza, you know, not just like live shots. Like it could be like a movie or some crap like that. I sorta had this vision for a Misfits video where these flying saucers land on earth (the saucers should look real fake, just like those in "Plan 9") and all these Crimsons ghosts come out of them with tacky little ray guns and they shoot people and then they turn to skeletons and all this crap... i dont know. i wanna incorporate zombies into my demonic visions too......
