Eerie was their photographer for 2 years or so. He also was Doyle's best friend in high school. Eerie wrote the lines notes to the Box Set and helped out with both the Box and Static Age. Eerie also had a band whose EP featured pictures of the Misfits and was a Misfits roadie at some shows. Eerie also auditioned (and briefly joined) the band as drummer and joined Glenn's post-Misfits band. Here's a question: Did Robo quit playing period after quitting the Misfits? ------------------------------ From: amuir@mailhost.beckett.com (Allan Muir) Subject: Misfits to rule charts! Date: Mon, 25 Aug 1997 15:36:05 -0500 Am I missing something here? Are you people saying it would be a bad thing were MTV to play the 'Fits vid? What the hell is wrong with you all? I think it's pretty much a given that MTV -- and popular music in general -- pretty much sucks right now. It's also a given that the Misfits are a great band that don't get anywhere near the attention they deserve. Therefore, it MTV were to play the Misfits, two goals would be accomplished: a) MTV would be playing something decent for a change; b) the Misfits would have the potential to reach new fans. Wouldn't it be great if the 'Fits -- a truly deserving band -- sold a million records and Hansen sold 10,000? C'mon, that would be absolutely brilliant!! As an old-school punk (I was around in the 70s, boyos), I remember what it was like to hate anything that was popular simply because it was popular. As I've grown up, I've learned that gaining popularity does not necessarily equate to the dreaded "selling out". Were this album (or any single) to get significant air time, would it make the album any less cool than it is now? Absolutely not! Selling the DUHB video to Fiend clubbers would accomplish nothing -- it's preaching to the choir. The 'Fits need to grab the unconverted, and MTV is the way to do it. If that makes them uncool in your mind, you need to seriously re-examine your criteria. ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 25 Aug 1997 16:40:26 -0400 From: "Kevin L. He also said.... >and who cares about bobby steele anyways? Well,I do,and I'm sure A LOT of people on the MB do too.His posts are among the best in the bible, second only to Mark's.Whether you agree with what he has to say or not,his posts are always entertaining and very well written. He thinks before posting, which is something you should try to do. Last bible, someone mentioned LATIN Mtv.Well,I recommend that anyone who has acces to it to tune in,'cause it is what Mtv is SUPPOSED to be.They have programs who appeal to specific audiences, and they also don't overplay any songs just 'cause they're popular.I mean, you won't have to listen to Hanson 50 times in one day while waiting for a Danzig video.Another good thing is that They have a Metal/Punk program(Headbangers,a sort of a ripoff from the original Headbangers' Ball)twice a week, and it lasts several hours(AT LEAST 2 and a half),so they play all sorts of stuff.Heck, they played Serpentia and Sacrifice MANY times, and everyone knows how the executives who run the regular Mtv dislike Glenn Danzig, often censoring his videos without any apparent reason(or did any of you think that HER BLACK WINGS had images that had explicit sexual conotations?). Well, the bottom line is:Latin Mtv IS NOT like the regular Mtv,so you should try and check it out. By the way, brasilian Mtv sucks as much as the american version,it only has A LOT more T and A!:0) While on the subject of MTV,Punkture, you're absolutely right, when Jerry sent the video to Mtv,he perverted the memory of the original Misfits. The fact that it'll probably be aired at 3 a.m. doesn't mean shit,'cause Jerry's original intent was (and IS!)to make it a big hit.He already betrayed us(or at least betrayed ME, 'cause the Misfits going to Mtv is something I hoped would never happen). Now you say "betrayed you?!Do they owe you anything?"Ok,so they DON'T owe me anything, but they should at least have some kind of respect for the Misfits' image, and more important, the Misfits' LEGEND!Oh well,it is already done, the video will be aired soon,so I'll just stop bitching about it... The question remains...were Jerry's glasses glued to his face during his high school years? Later, and stay evil. The reason I was really just stating that it seems the band goes from Ohio to Indiana to Minnesota to Michigan down to St Louis. I mean, they passed up Chicago many times last year but failed to stop and do a show. Maybe it wasn't possible....But even recently they headlined in Indiana, but not couldn't drive 2-3 hours more to Chicago? Crash666, actually with the exception of Glenn and Jerry, I reckon Bobby was in the Misfits longer than anyone else (I might be wrong). I guess Doyle now because of the new band, but we're not talking about the new band. And I really need to argue the "Doyle was there from the beginning" comment. I think if you were owed as much money as Bobby you'd be pissed to. 35 tracks on the box set, not to mention money for all the Collections and other singles, etc etc. Not only that, but in my opinion, gathered from all the talk and interview and comments, Jerry was out to get Bobby so Doyle could be in and like Emmeril says "BAM, he kicked it up a notch" and the Caifas had Glenn surrounded before he knew what hit him. And for all you death metal fans, we're also gonna include the interview with Oppressor at Bay Street Bar in Savannah, GA. Check us out: Vibrations of Doom www.kmf.org/~cl/vod_home.html Might I say, the Misfits show in Atlanta kicked some MAJOR ass! I don't have a lot of time to include the details right now (except that Megadeth didn't open for them--two local bands did). I have to admit--Michale's vocals weren't quite as good this time as they were at the show last year, but I REALLY think he's getting into the crowd more this time around! The pit during "Mommy" was UNBELIEVEABLE! Michale told us to form a pit around the entire club and mosh our asses off--and it damn sure happened! One final note, and this is VERY IMPORTANT! PAY VERY CLOSE ATTENTION TO THIS! Jerry Only told me to tell ALL OF YOU that if you want to see them on the internet, BE NICE! They will post on the Bible and we will be able to send e-mail to them if everyone will just stop ALL the bullshit, the flaming, the bashing (this includes the Glenn-bashing AND the Bobby-bashing!). If you want to criticize, be constructive and be nice about it! Also, keep in mind that they are NOT here to relive 1977--it's 1997, and they're starting over with new stuff! If you don't like the new stuff, you don't have to--just don't give them any shit about it! When they were on the net, Michale was doing the e-mail--and he was trying to be as nice as he could (he was practically kissing your asses!). A lot of what he got in return were flames and bullshit. Like I say, if you're gonna criticize be nice about it--tell them what they can improve on. But BE NICE! In fact, we would love for all you guys running the Bible to enforce the rules as much as possible. I know we would all like to see the band we all know and love posting on here! When the flames are at a minimum, Steve and I will call Jerry ourselves (either at his house or at Geffen) and tell him to get back on the net. And, again, we should all thank Mark for the job-and-a-half that he's doing to keep all this going (the Misfits thank you too!!!)! Thanks for your time, fiends! Todd McFarlane was already one of the richest artists in the world after his successes on AMAZING SPIDER-MAN and SPIDER-MAN; he was easily the highest-paid comic book artist. He was, and remains, at the top of his industry -- somewhere no Misfit has ever been. Sure, when Todd went on his own, his company was "DIY", but he had enormous amounts of money, as well as the anticipation of an entire industry on his side. Even in its current slump, the comic book industry is MANY times larger than the Misfits' fan base. SPAWN *immediately* became the #1 comic book in the world, and every single issue for five years since then has issue has placed in the top 5 or 10 monthly best-sellers. -Brett ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 27 Aug 1997 04:00:42 -0400 From: John Troy Subject: www.misfits.com Does anyone know what's the deal with www.misfits.com? The reason Rick basses were huge in the 70's (for all of you who care) was beacause Fender, the preeminent electric bass manufacturer, was bought by CBS in 1968 and quality took a HUGE nose dive. If you look around, alot of the big bass players of the 70s (Geezer Butler, Geddy Lee, the guy from Deep Purple, etc..) were playing Ricks. If you saw a Fender bass in those days it was pre CBS 60s model. Alot of the punk bands were using them as well, I have seen pictures of Matlock, Simonon, Vicious (gag!) and alot of other punk bassists using Ricks instead of Fenders. anyway CG goes on "To be into the Misfits and accepted by they're "REAL" fans >you've gotta dress a certain >way? This is >how they feed their families. Correct to the last letter CG. It's just a good job that the original Misfits didn't have the same attitude as some people on this Bible otherwise they'd have recorded their songs, handed each other personal copies of the cassette and then ridden off into the sunset claiming themselves to be the most obscure band in history... only no one else would either know nor care about it. I realise that MTV Europe is different to MTV America (though, unfortunately, not THAT different) but I've seen a thousand and one Scandinavian Death Metal bands videos played over here and it's not made their album sales go beyond the single figure mark. I don't often see young kids running around with pentagrams etched into their foreheads screaming 'Norse Gods arise!' in dumb monster voices either. In 1984 MTV had the power to break almost any artist on heavy rotation into a major act, in 1997 it barely has the power to make Jenny McCarthy think she can do comedy. MTV airplay will make little or no difference to the way the Misfits are perceived, it may sell them a few more albums and may turn a few more people onto them but how in the hell does that actually affect YOU? It doesn't, or at least, you shouldn't let it. And anyway, does it matter how you get into a band? Is someone that sees the Dig Up Her Bones video and then goes out and buys American Psycho any different to the guy who saw a shitty bootleg 15 years ago and bought Walk Among Us? Jerry has consistently said he wants to take this band as far as he can. The subtext to his statements do basically read 'make as much money as we can' but then the two usually go hand in hand anyway, especially in the music industry. I know there's people on here that would rather he spent his time busking for pennies but the guy's got a wife and kids to look after and can't keep this thing together for too many more years before it'll look ridiculous. Hmmm... the Misfits don't want to venture out to the Internet because of the bad behavior of the people on this mailing list, eh? Well, I suppose they do have a point. But I think they ought to understand two things: 1. The Internet is a place where candy-asses can post all over creation with their big-mouthed, big-attitude slams and flames, and not worry about retribution. It doesn't matter how much of a badass you are in real life, you might as well be pretty damn tough if you're halfway around the world from the other guy. Case in point: >WHERE THE FUCK DO YOU GET OFF? This remark is directed at "Bullet >) what kind of pussy bigot are you? are you the >Nazi I beat the shit out of just last night? ...and yadda yadda yadda, and on to offer a good metaphorical ass-kickin' if the guy ever was to cross into his area of Cyberspace again. What's the point? One guy goes fishing for people to make fools out of themselves by spitting out angry rants in response to fake, made-up comments, and another guy is happy to oblige. All because everybody, in reality, is sitting on their asses at home or at work, and they don't even need to look at the other guy, so they feel like they can say just about whatever crosses their mind without shame or fear of retribution. Like it or not, the same thing WILL happen to the Misfits if they venture onto the Internet. Usenet is particularly vindictive (though I understand a lot of people find reasonable discussion forums on private services like Compuserve). If you want to come out onto the net and fish for publicity, you can't afford to be thin-skinned. 2. The Misfits are a band with a "cult following". A lot of people care perhaps a little too much about the music, particularly the older music. If the Misfits just want to come here and run jerk-off sessions like this: INSANEFAN08: Michale, that song "Dig Up Her Bones" is pure genius. How did you get to be so smart? GRAVES: I stayed in school and bought all the albums by my favorite bands. DROOLING: Jerry, what's Glenn Danzig really like? ONLY: He's a jerk and a complete failure. Always remember that. DROOLING: Is it true there's backward-masked messages about Glenn on "American Psycho"? ONLY: Buy the album and find out. FIEND138: Dr. Chud, what's it like playing drums in the greatest band in the entire known world? CHUD: It's great, because I get to have my own authorized drumsticks, which you will be able to buy through the Fiend Club this fall! CG: Jerry, I liked the old Misfits, but I didn't buy the new album because I believe it shows a much poorer musical direction than the earlier works. Frankly, I think Glenn Danzig contributed the most to the Misfits' musical successes. Would you ever be interested in collaborating with him again? JERRY: That does it!! We're outta here!!! ... well then, what's the point? To me, though I understand Jerry's comments about why he doesn't like to participate on the Internet, it sort of comes off like he's telling us that if we shape up, we might get a P.R. rap session or two on the 'net. Who cares? There's certainly no reason to be rude to Jerry & the boys -- but if he's not willing to talk about anything but his new success with the help of Geffen Records, then I don't see where it's such a great loss. It's just not that fascinating of a conversation to have... >From: Sheila Brown >Subject: Hey Fiend >Date: Thu, 28 Aug 1997 19:30:39 -0400 > >I am a misfits lover for more than 7 years I hope their wives don't find out, for your sake... -- | Neil McAllister - Systems Administrator | Primo Angeli Inc., San Francisco, CA, USA | http://www.primo.com mailto://pcm2@sentient.com ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 27 Aug 1997 11:09:47 -0700 From: Adrian Honey Subject: Walk Among us Vinyl I am using a friend's account and I am looking for a reissue copy of Walk Among Us on vinyl. Mark Answered: >Not Misfits for sure - sort of Samhain - Steve and Glenn from Samhain >only, recorded January '84 before Initium. Let's make this one perfectly clear before this whole thread starts up again. I believe it was Steve Zing that said Mephisto Waltz was recorded by Glenn and himself. This is a proven fact by someone that was there. Jerry claims that he had nothing to do with it, therefore proving (or just about proving) Steve's claim. Technically it's a Misfits song for one reason only, Glenn released it on Collection II while still in control of the name "Misfits" tm. Glenn could have released it under either band, he chose to release it under the name Misfits probably because he thinks it's an unmitigated piece of shit and didn't want to tarnish the good name of Samhain. Personally if that's the case I think he's right. Obviously it's a Samhain song because of who played on it, but Glenn had the right to release it under either name, period. Just like Jerry has the right to call American Psycho a Misfits record. Dave Naked said: >" Everyone...EVERYONE has been doing Misfits tributes, but >as it seems, no one has been including selections from what some believe to be a >SEMINAL album...AMERICAN PSYCHO!!! Who actually had the balls to call a brand new album seminal?? Seminal means "of the seed, semen, of CRUCIAL importance, critical. The tunes from Static Age (ie: the original singles and beware) are somewhat seminal, being that they influenced a number of newer bands. The Ramones, the stooges, the MC5 are seminal, they influenced literally thousands of bands. But a record that's only been out for a couple of months is definitely *NOT* seminal. People may think that it's the best work the band has ever done, that's opinion and it's valid (it's not mine) but seminal is another story entirely, only time will tell. All that you've heard about the show is true. As usual, the Misfits cranked out some impressive shit. I wasn't to keen on the new singer but now I'm a changed man. It's like he was born to be a Misfit. Talked with the band before the show and really liked what I heard. It's almost impossible nowadays to find a band with so much talent, intelligence, and energy. I only have one complaint. Not about the Misfits but their so-called "fiends." The Misfits are still the Misftits. It doesn't matter who's singing, drumming, or farting. Why can't people realize that Glenn didn't make the Misfits. The Misfits made Glenn. Don't misunderstand, I like the old stuff, but the new stuff is just as good if not better. Everyone would realize that if they could just see them on stage. Losing Glenn didn't hurt the Misfits, It allowed them to grow. Last but not least WHO CARES IF THE MISFITS ARE ON MTV? A true fan would want to see or hear them any way they could. And maybe, just maybe those poor MTV zombies will learn a little something about real music. Next:The show in atlanta 8/24/97 I went to the show in atlanta and it was AWSOME!Michael's voice(what I could here of it) was better than danzigs live. The show started off with two local bands that ruled. Then they uncovered the drum set and did a check on noise levels for the guitars and bass. Then chud showed up behind the set and they went in to Dr phibes.Michael came out with the straight jacket and top hat and stage dived into the crowd. Then he was thrown back on stage and went nuts getting the jscket off, well just untied his arms, cause he sang AP with the jacket on.They played like the first 5 songs off of the new album and then played static age and TV casualty.Later on when they played Mommy,He pause in the break and said thanks for coming and introduced a guy and a girl. The guy asked the girl to marry him on stage. Then they finished mommy. They did requests and one of them was SHE.They called for all girls to come on stage. Two of my friends went up on stage. One of my friends sang with Jerry. The rest of the girls moshed on stage.Jerry did a great show.doyle is the all time live punk guitar god.Being a guitarist I watdched him like a hawk and he blew me away on how he played stuff. They even played vampira. After the show michael came out first and signed my cd booklets and ticket and my 97 glow go skull tshirt.Jerry did the same.He asked what I thought of static age and I said It rules. Then he said what did I think of the new one.I said it rules also. Then he said that AP is his favorite. Then he patted me on my shoulder and went to the winnebego.Doyle signed my stuff also. But I think he was worn out cause he didn't say a word!Chud was no where to sign stuff. Before the show chud was mackin' with chicks and Jerry had to call him to the bus to finish his workout.Well that is all I can remember for now. They aren't REAL punk. Punk started in the 70's with the Pistols, the Clash, and of course, MiSfiTs...And it died with the MiSfiTs and other bands...Why? Because there wasn't a need for it. Scott, the owner of Max One Records, hosts "punk" shows all the time. We discussed the current state of "punk" and the current MiSfiTs stuff. Back then, there were mainly poppy, structured rock songs, all full of happiness and glee...Then came the brash, 3-chord punks with attitudes, cheap instruments, and rebellion from the norm. Punk nowadays: Rich kids playing cheap instruments wearing cheap clothes, playing 3 chords (EVEN WHEN THEY CAN PLAY GOOD!!! YOU CAN PLAY DETAILED, INTRICATE SONGS AND STILL BE DIY), and don't forget playing happy-go-lucky, silly tunes. They fail to realize, you can be the most bad-assed band and still be "punk" or idependent. "Punks" nowadays are meerly reliving a time they weren't around to enjoy...(Neither was I, I'm 17) But it's so silly because they could do so much more, so much better, and still be anti mainsteam, anti-corporate...so sad... As for AP....Scott and I agree that all the evilness and rudeness has sucked out to make it "mainstream friendly". The moment I first heard DUHBs, I knew that was the radio-friendly ear-candy. I still like AP, but it can never be my favorite...I'm so sad....I'd love to talk to Jerry and Michale (How is his name spelled? I've seen it spelled four different ways!) I couldn't have said it better myself. (Although that could be because I was educated in California, and we DO have the worst, if not second to worst, education in the US.) But seriously, ALOT of you are taking this the wrong way. I mean, if MTV ACTUALLY does play a Misfits video, you think it'll be during the day or even prime time? That's VERY doubtful. This "genre" of music the Misfits fall under is "not popular" right now, so MTV won't touch it with a ten foot pole. (At least not when it's beloved viewers/rating givers are watching) I think the ONLY time will see it is REAL late at night, POSSIBLY even on 120 Minutes. Than will hear Matt "I'm the King of Music Trivia" Pinfield talk about the band like their something new, not one that's been around for 20 years... Anyways, I doubt the Misfits will become any trendies "flavor of the month", and we'll still have our beloved Misfits too ourselves. If something WERE to happen where the Misfits DID indeed become the "cool thing" to like, it won't last that long. After a couple months of the trendies "loving" the Misfits, they'll dump them quicker than Vanilla Ice, and move on to their next "flavor". Wow, I created my own pun, albeit dumb. If the Misfits get some new fans out of this, than more power to 'em. Out of those people, the "REAL" fans will stick with them LONG after MTV moves on to whatever else is "cool". Hope that made sense. Put it to rest. It's basically a multi-functional piece of general resistance based equipment. The weights (therefore resistance) can be altered depending on which muscle area you're working on. This is basically a hand portable 'gym' and works on the premise of most regular gym equipment which uses the pin method of varying the weight lifted. There are also regular freeweights on the bus. At home they just use a regular gym. I did hear that they were hoping to take a portable gym out on the road but they didn't have it in the UK. Jerry & Doyle tend to work out daily while Chud and Michale just do it as and when. When I spoke to Doyle about his schedule he just shrugged and said he'd basically always been in shape and just worked out to relax (and to help with his back also). Michale told me he'd always wanted to be bigger and was trying pretty hard to get there with Doyle's help. If you look at the early pics of Michale, he has gotten a little bigger. As far as diet goes, they eat basic junk food crap on tour. I was really surprised to see Doyle eating a burger sandwich and the greasiest chips (fries) I've seen... I guess he has a mega-metabolism, unlike his brother :) Take care, Julian P.S. Or, would I be a polite Misfit who would explain to these poor misguided youth that it is a violation of the law for me to have sexual contact with a minor? Being other great Misfits fans, what would YOU do in these situations? Have you ever been one of these nymphomaniacal groupies yourself? Explain. From: undead@juno.com (Bobby Steele) Date: Fri, 29 Aug 1997 11:52:56 EDT here's a quote I came across in the THRASHER interview with Glenn. Remember . . . these things are transcribed from tapes - so sometimes things get misunderstood in the transcription. It's obvious Glenn's talking about MEPHISTO WALTZ: G: I had written a song called Samhain. P: Was that originally a Misfits song? G: No, it was a song that I had written. There was lots of stuff I'd writting you just couldn't give the Misfits because they couldn't do it. I had a song, The Crystal Waltz, that I brought down to rehearsal and those guys butchered it. Most of the stuff Eerie plays, Jerry could never play in his wildest imagination. So THERE IT IS ! in Glenn's own words. THE MISFITS were never capable of recording this song. You might want to look further into this article. He goes on about how Jerry wasn't practicing anymore; and how Jerry and Doyle were blowing all the money on DRUGS. Let me guess, Zero and Mac Daddy, you both read MaximumRockNRoll, right? Especially you Zero, you sound to me like one of those "LITTLE RICH KIDS WITH CHEAP CLOTHES" who discovered MRR and immediately took it on as your personal bible because it gave you thoughts to fill your little empty head with, right? I get a laugh out of guys like these two because they, to me, exemplify what's always been wrong with the punk scene; it claims to be the most open-minded/individual/etc. scene out there yet it's everything but! Anything not on a tiny indie label that actually has listenable production is not punk because MRR said so right? And what is so bad about metal? I'm 28 and not only a long-time metaller (the extreme thrashy varieties, not the candyassed hair band shite--Slayer, Motorhead, and Morbid Angel still rule OK in my book), but let it be known that I was listening to the Clash when they were still together, "London Calling" being my fave LP of theirs. This was when you, Mac Daddy, were probably still in grade school listening to New Kids or whatever, and before you were even born, Zero. So I am qualified to speak of what I think is "punk", I think. In short, punk is about playing good songs without excess, minimalist and catchy tunes that get to the point without taking forever. They don't necessarily have to be incredibly deep songs with amazing social relevance (or heavyhanded preaching like most of the "hardcore" bands these days who are really just bad heavy metal bands), just fun and good to listen to. But what counts is that the FEELING has to be there--you have to play it like you mean it, every note. This is why most of the new punk bands are as lightweight as they are. It's just a trend to them. Punk IS Rock N' Roll in as pure a form as can be. In short, it's not a religion or a sexual preference...just music. Which is unfortunately a cashable commodity and always has been--cope, kids. Just a little dopeslap upside the head, and hey--if it were not for metal you'd have nothing to react against/whine about and you would also be playing accordions and LOVING it. What say you to this, kiddies? BTW, Mac Daddy, your handle is an extremely cheesey hiphop reference, how punk is that? --CHRIS ____________________________________________________________________ Get free e-mail and a permanent address at http://www.netaddress.com ------------------------------ Date: Sun, 29 Aug 1999 12:01:25 -0500 From: ghoul Subject: Jerks Another distantly related post: anyone have a clue as to the value of a Circle Jerks Wild in the Streets 12" on Step Forward records? By the way, the gist of the entire review is that the evening was filled with Metallica rip-off bands: "The punk-rockin' Misfits have little to do with Metallica, and they seemed better [than the other bands] by comparison. Touting a new disc, American Psycho, the quartet (minus former lead singer Glenn Danzig) featured guitarists stabbing at their instruments with cartoonishly grand gestures -- not hard to do, given the uncomplicated nature of the chords. But the music was muscular, even melodious, and the band's showmanship strong. Shirtless and glistening with sweat, they were like gladiators in the pit, with black armbands and leather pants trimmed with belts and chrome buckles. They seemed tough as nails -- until someone in the audience threw lighted fireworks onstage. "If you don't like me, then move back," said singer Michale Graves. "None of this throwing cigarettes and ... [expletive] at me." That provoked a barrage of plastic bottles --making the gladiator-in-the-pit comparison seem all the more accurate." That actually passes as pretty favorable for the DMN. My two cents: great show, and much longer than I expected for a band playing second on a bill of four (about 50 minutes). I was disappointed by a couple of omissions (London Dungeon, Blacklight), but a solid set, nonetheless. Mike seems to be developing his own personality on stage, a critical matter if the band is to continue progressing post-Danzig. I enjoyed his antics, personally. The fiends hanging out after the gig were, as always, as friendly a lot as you're likely to meet, as were Jerry and the boys, who greeted, posed and signed for everyone who hung out. To top it all, I was trying to get my AP CD poster signed, and had Jerry and Doyle early. I then caught up to Chud, who I mistook for Michale (yeah, I'm REALLY cool). After he signed, I said "Thanks Mike," and Chud, without skipping a beat, said, "No, that's Mike over there. You better get him 'cause he's taking off." He then yelled to Mike to hold up because I wanted his 'graph. Probably 99 guys out of 100 would have taken an attitude after being called the wrong name. Chud's complete lack of self-importance really impressed me. They may become famous, but I doubt these guys are going to become "rock stars." Go see 'em. I agree somewhat. the music is punk, because punk is a lifestyle rather than a musical hobby. also Mc5 and the Ramones are your original punkers. Brit punk didn't happen for a while, and one could pretty honestly say that the Fits and Black flag were on the tail end of that land slide( as well as a big part of what held it all togather for so long. ) as far as the clash goes, they are really pretty guilty of making radio friendly music themselves...can you say big audio dynamite- a largish mistake if I do say so myself. not to mention that the clash had ALOT of videos on mtvI.E.Rock the casbah, should I stay or should I go, another one bites the dust...and on and on. on that note, todays punk is indeed alot different from that which was, but its all about musical evolution. as you play more, you get better, and where you leav off, someone else is gonna pick up. good post. lets you think a little4 more than bitchin about how tall Jerry is. Look, it's ok to be on and watch MTV. It's ok to tour with big bands. It's ok to sell merchandise. As long as one doesn't step over the edge and start selling useless things like cameras and bubble baths (Spice Girls come to mind). I'm only 16 and am new to the Misfits and already I think they are truly great. Here's what I think, a band that has a following from the late '70's all the way to 1997 and years to come must be a truly devoted and kick ass band. You don't see many bands out there dressing up or making their own instruments anymore. One of the reasons for this is that those bands usually think "hmmmm, if we dress up or make our own stuff, then we'll look trendy." Well fuck that. Another thing, what's up with the trashing of different types of music? I listen to Type O Negative, Megadeth, Ramones, Sex Pistols, Korn and all the way to the realms of ska and some underground hip-hop. I say that if it sounds good, listen to it, no need to trash different types of music. That goes for bands too, Megadeth rule and you can't compare them to Metallica, these are two very very different types of metal. And about Mustaine being thrown out of Metallica, I think that was better for Mustaine and Metallica, they both play different types of metal, one is speed metal and the other WAS down and gritty "thrash" (i cringe at that word but I really can't think of anything else) metal. ------------------------------ Date: Sat, 30 Aug 1997 02:07:16 -0400 (EDT) From: WantUDEAD@aol.com Subject: "i got some thing to say....." 1. do any of you find some fiends to be a little over obsessive with the MISFITS and their personal lives? i really don't see how it's any of our business how much doyle can press nor his or any other of the MISFITS' heights and/or weights. nor do i care what reason jerry is using this week for trying to make money off the MISFITS name to try to come up with some acceptable excuse for all you kids. god damn, this is their career. there is NOT a fine line between selling out and just plain trying to live and support your family. there is a great difference between the two. selling out would be to preach D.I.Y. for as long as your existence and then signing to warner brothers and letting them control your band's future. which by the way, i've never once seen the MISFITS say "D.I.Y. or die." then there's the real world, doing whatever you gotta fucking do for money, be it ever so miserable and lame. maybe once some of you kids become adults and mommy and daddy stop supporting you and you have to get real jobs (meaning not at the mall) working 40 hours or more a week for shitty medical benefits and a shitty salary trying to support yourself and maybe a family too, you will understand this difference. then maybe, just MAYBE you'll see why jerry is really trying to do this for the money and can accept the fact that a 40 year old man has to do what he's got to do for a living because he has no other fucking choices anymore! but then, maybe that's just silly, stupid me......... 2. someone made a super good point about mtv and the MISFITS. i'd like to credit that person, but i forget who it was and don't really feel like going back to look. the MISFITS isn't exactly the type of band you'll find on mtv too frequently. let's face it, there is great doubt in my mind that mtv would even play the DUHB video on 120 minutes. it's just not mtv quality, if you can say any of that junk is quality......... i think it has something to do with the conspiracy between forms of mass media. example: if you put on the radio and mtv at the same time, i'd bet anything that they are both playing the same song, unless of course mtv is having their michael jackson weekend and keep showing thriller and the making of thriller 30 times over, or even better those lovely real world marathon's. i'm sorry, but just because you play radiohead or coolio in the background of everyone's bitching doesn't exactly make it qualify as music television to me........ 3. i truly doubt that the MISFITS will come back to philly like EVER! unless truely necessary. when they first played in philly in may of 96, philly gave them mad props! which was a good reason why they came back to philly for halloween. halloween, the MISFITS were treated fairly decent. so they came back in june and the crowd just shit on them. jerry was saying all before the show, "oh yea, philly's becoming the new home of the MISFITS" or something to that effect how philly was always giving them mad props and shit, then stupid ass holes in the crowd starting throwing shit and totally disrespecting the MISFITS. i wouldn't blame the MISFITS if they never came back to philly ever again, it was very disappointing that so many ass holes could rally like that in one place, none the less, a MISFITS show...... 4.sorry, but i got to throw this in: BOXCAR, GUTTERMOUTH, and TEN FOOT POLE at the unitarian church in philly, 22nd(?) and chestnut st. september 28th radness...... and also i heard a possible rumor of AGAINST THE GRAIN and AGNOSTIC FRONT at maxwell's in hoboken, nj september 8th. if true: more radness........... 5.is it true MISFITS are only gonna tour with SICK OF IT ALL for like a week? that sucks, i really love those SOIA guys, pete's fucking sexy. when they are touring with SOIA, anyone know where exactly???? like east coast possibly, i hope and pray?????? especially somewhere between dc and ny would be really convenient, anybody got any pull on this decision? *cough*cough* mark? since you are like they're best friend or something..... ok, i'm done babbling for now. i apologize now for any grammatical and/or spelling errors. ebonics is my first language, not english, so, i'm sorry. ------------------------------ Date: Sat, 30 Aug 1997 11:01:03 -0700 From: Hk Subject: El paso show!! Also AP probably isn't even in the top 200 selling cd charts (some one correct me if i'm wrong) so why would mtv take a chance on it. also they don't play anytthing thing that isn't rap/techno (it's the next "big thing")/or "alternative" (which to them is the wallflowers and bush) ------------------------------ Date: Sat, 30 Aug 1997 17:13:01 -0400 (EDT) From: KramerPunk@aol.com Subject: Megadeath/Misfits at El Paso on August 29 A couple of my friends say they saw Glenn Danzig with the misfits at the end of their set. I don't often see young kids running around with pentagrams etched into their foreheads screaming 'Norse Gods arise!' in dumb monster voices either.-- HEY! That is Scandinavian BLACK Metal, NOT Death metal.... Damn, your lucky to get MTV europe... have you seen the new Cradle of Filth? And about MTV... I mean, some of you think that if MTV plays the Misfits, they will be the next Hanson or something... If MTV does play DIG UP HER BONES in heavy rotation (which is HIGHLY unlikely), they probably will get as big as, say, White Zombie (and the poseur rate for that band is not THAT bad)... They will not be as big as Green Day because Green Day was very marketably and, er, "poppy", and the Misfits certainly do not have that sound of pop-punk that is marketable (damn, i know Green Day or Offspring fans here are gonna tear me apart....) I just thought I'd tell ya'll(jesus I'm Texan) about my night it has dick to do with the misfits, so if your not interested, move on and save yourself the trouble. Tonight was my first night as the newest bouncer at the atomic cafe nightclub. I have been bouncing since just after high school, so this was nothin new.until I started walkin the floor( makin the rounds, or "treading") when the headlining band started playing. the name of the band is fuckemos. a little history. Emos is a bar owned by Jeff Pinkus, a really nice guy that just happened to play for a little band called the butthole surfers. Fuckemos are all the bartenders and bouncers with one iota of musical talent that no longer work at emos for reasons undisclosed. Fuckemos plays a really specific type of music called drunkrock. well antway all was cool until skinny ass little guy A trys to destroy Jolly green punkrocker B via sticking his face in jolly greens stomach and reaching around him to punch him in the kidneys. ( not exactly a smart attack, but one can clearly see he was new at this) well anyway, jolly green ( who is about 6'5 I suppose) is obviously not in the mood, so he grabs skinny ass and looks at me ( I swear he was smiling) to remove the offending idiot. I happily obliged, seeing as how punching someone five times bigger than you in the kidneys isn't the best way to start a conversation. I grab skinny ass under the arms and began pushing him out of the crowd and towards the door. no problem, right? skinny ass weighs all of about 110 pounds soakin wet and he's reeaal drunk.Arlo weighs about 200 dry and had a schlitz about two hours ago because the iced tea pitcher was empty and I don't dig on austin water. cake, right? WRONG about the time we clear the crowd, skinny asses buddy, smaller that skinny ass, grabs me and gets in my face. o.k., skinny ass and company are goin out still no big deal. been there, done that. arlo , with skinny ass under one arm and skinnier ass under the other is walking towards the door when arlo is suddenly wearing a really pointy backpack. it would appear that skinny asses girl, psychotica the knapsack found all that skin in my left armpit offensive and tried to remove it via fingernails. now up until this point, I was pretty cool about this deal, but if I carried on like this, I was gonna look like one of those clown bikes at the circus by the time I reached the door and I was beggining to get a little pissed.I grabbed skinny ass by his shirt and pinned him to a pole, pinned the other guy to the same pole and began dislodging psycho backpack girl via shaking her off. about that time, all hell broke loose. Ivan, one of the bartenders sees me draggin people like so much corn and decides to help. hip hop guys decide to help skinny ass. the result is Ivan putting ME in a full nelson and dragging me from the fray. while Ivan is doing this, skinny ass slaps me lightly on the cheek and hauls ass outta the club. at this point, I was considering quitting just so I chase him down and show hiw just what waffle treads do to a skinny backside. then back pack girl comes up screamin cause she hit her head when she hit the floor and she wants my nuts for garnish in her next martini. but instead of attacking me, she gloms onto Ivan and does her best tornado impression. I didn't know a shirt could come off a man that fast without his wanting it gone.any way, we settled her down, cleared the mike tysons out and enjoyed the rest of the show. I just pulled a little piece of fingernail outta my pit. I'm going to bed now. thanks for listening to me whine, Arlo 2.1.76. ------------------------------ From: "Redneck" Subject: WHAT A KILLER 2-day Vacation in LODI!!!
