I got a copy of the misfits last show and it is an awful copy. Barely
audible. does anyone know where I can get a decent sounding tape of the
show?

It IS the collection. The CD numbering system for Plan 9 stuff is different
than the LP numbering system (in 2 cases only) The "best of" or "collection"
or "Misfits" album is PL9-CD1 and that's what you're seeing.

Hmm, that sucks. Didn't realize that. I guess I forget that some people on
this mailing list aren't from the East Coast.

Well, finally somebody has an opinion about this. I asked about a million times
and nobody ever responded. Personally, I think they way it is now (Tuesday,
Thursday) is the best way to do it. The issues are pretty consistent in size
and come out (obviously) consistently. I try to distance the issues from the
weekends because most of the people on the mailing list don't do email over th
weekends - probably because it's their time off, whether they're working or at
school. Very little mail comes into the mailbox on weekends and
that's why the Friday issue was moved to Thursday.

This is why we need a FAQ. The Crimson Ghost originated in the 1946 TV series
title "The crimson Ghost". It's really silly science fiction and can be rented
at almost any video store. There's also a shortened movie single video version
of the series, which originally ran for 12 episodes.

Must be if Glenn likes it right? Yeah right....

Bad, bad, bad. Rent it for historical reasons and then you can say you've
seen it.

His idle or fascination or something. Seems like he loved the 50's.

That's right. Anyone who sent their postal mailing address to CG when he
posted about a million times should have gotten this postcard. If anyone
out there didn't get the hints over the last 6 months or so, it should be
obvious now. The Misfits are still together.

That's really cool. A friend of mine (and EVB's) auditioned and has since
become good buddies with Jerry and the Caiafa family. Those guys are serious
so if you think you can sing, let them know...

hi, this is my first post...

in response to "why be something your not" [sic] i think this was actually
the second show of the tour...my friend has my copy, which includes the
"braineaters" video and 2 other shows, one in mass. where they cover "rise
above". anywho, i remember glenn saying they had played akron the nite
before. i'm pretty sure of this.

secondly, i have a boot cd which isn't very good called "heros of danzig".
it says it was recorded in 92, i think. maybe 90 or 91. they sound not
very together, even for the misfits. my question: was this a reunion
tour? someone called the misfits played in ft wayne, indiana within a
coupla months of that recording, and i just wondered...

lastly, "plan 9 from outer space" was rad, tnt shows it sometimes, check it
out. "the crimson ghost" was a serial either on tv or, more likely, shown
before old movies, like "flash gordon" was. i saw a video compilation of
it at suncoast, at the maul. and, i heard the only cool thing about the
film "the misfits" was its name.

love, luck, and lollipops,

Greg (aka) dorin...As far as where the Crimson Gohst came from there was an
old TV series called the Crimson ghost which had some guy in a red Cape and a
cheesy mask. He seemed to be a kind of superhero. As far as the mask it
looks exactly like the misfits crimson skull. If you have a Suncoast
Pictures near you check for it there, I just happened to see it one day and
there were about 5 different tapes. Good Luck.

First PL9-CD1 is the 20 song self titled Misfits cd. It has a
buncha tracks from their singles and albums and such. Pretty cool. Most
Misfits songs on 1 cd.

Also about the new Misfits.. I suppose I don't mind a new Misfits
I am just going to keep an open mind on them and not judge them until I
hear it first. I am trying to get my friend to send them a tape but he is
sucha shy fool. Oh well.

They are obviously going to mainly lack the writing and vocal
power that Glenn gave but they have 2 original members. It would be cool
if they could get along with one of the old drummers and have him join up
but oh well.

Okay, here's a couple of responses to a few folks (I have a sinking
feeling a bunch of others are gonna respond to the same stuff, so
nevermind if you see the info over and over again...)

To dorin@mailbox.msc.com (Greg): The Crimson Ghost (skull face) is from
a bad horror serial from a long while back (good ol' black and white)
The archfiend is a Scientist-Gone-Bad who uses a garage door opener to
crash jet planes until the good guy and his dog, Timmy, take him out.
Sounds corny? it is... but it's funny to see the CG running around (and
eventually trip on a stump with Timmy in hot pursuit). Rent it with Plan
9 from Outer Space and enjoy the cheeze...

Sheckey the Jackal: Collections... Well, I have the Discography ("green
skull face" album ((Crimson Ghost, see above)) in my hot
little hands and it says PL9-CD1, Distributed by Caroline Records, Inc.
114 West 26th street, New York, N.Y. 1001. I'm not sure if it has always
been this. However, the Plan 9 numbers and the order of release are not
synonymous... I think Samhain: Initium has a really low number, and
Legacy of Brutality is like PL9-CD6. On to your other questions, 14 bucks
for it is an okay price. No matter where I went (Best Buy even!) it
wasn't a cheap-o.

Okay, I know a lot of people are down on the thought of The Misfits
continuing on with a new singer, and to an extent, I can relate. The vocals
make the songs for me, especially when it comes to The Misfits. But.

Black Flag went through many singers. Did their "sound" change? Did the
quality of their music change? No, no really. Sure, when Rollins was with
the band, they sounded far different on some songs then when other singers
were singing. Big deal. The songs were still good.

I'm betting the same thing will happen with The Misfits. Hell, if I could
find some people to back me up, I'd throw a tape together and send it to
them. I think it'd be great fun to perform as a member of the band.

Now, I've been away for a few weeks, so to return to a couple old bits
addressed to or near me, forgive me if I forget something, I'm doing this
all from memory with a fever. Heh.

On Marilyn Manson, the best part of the show up here, for me, was definately
when they covered the Eurythmics. That was incredible. I also liked Monster
Voodoo Machine. They were honest, and trying to make sure everyone had fun.
That was nice.

On King DIamond/Merciful Fate (or whatever) yes, I've heard OF them. No,
I've never heard them.

And am I the only one out here that thinks Glenn would look good with a
shaved head? Heh.

I'm not going to try to include the text here, because this digest thing
is too damned unwieldy.
Here goes-
Danizig may very well have "grown into" his voice- but he's writing shit
music. HIs voice, IMHO, was at the top of its game perhaps in Hollywood
Babylon, but *definitely* in Last Caress. Angelfuck wasn't half bad
either. I'm assuming everyone heard him sing Less Than Zero on the
soundtrack- he could have stuck with that style, rather than let himself
degenerate into the trash vocalist he has become on Danzig III and IV.
Not to mention the whole cheesy sell-out thingL what's up with that Angel
of the 7th Dawn club, and the "What Would You Do For Danzig" contest they
had right after the release of Lucifuge. I was on the mailing list for a
while, and let me tell you, all I got were newsletters telling me to cal
MTV and my local radio stations to request his songs as much as I
possibly could. Lame.

DANZIG READIES SECOND LEG OF U.S. TOUR
_____________________

American Recordings band DANZIG is set to head back out on the road
for the second leg of their mammoth U.S. tour. The new series of dates
commences March 24 in San Francisco and winds up in Florida on May 14.
Opening for DANZIG will be Marilyn Manson and Korn. A few surprises are
being planned for the DANZIG show during this second round of dates, but
fans can expect the same kind of hyper-imaginative staging and lighting
that overwhelmed audiences on the first go-round.

DANZIG's latest album, DANZIG 4, was the #1 Most Added at Metal
radio when it was released last fall. Since then, the album has been in
Billboard's Top 200 for twelve weeks straight, and the band has toured
consistently, most recently returning from a whirlwind 5-city promotional
visit to Holland, Italy, and Germany. The third and latest single video
from Danzig 4, "I Don't Mind The Pain," is currently set for release on
March XX. Once the latest U.S. tour wraps up, the band returns to Europe
for a summer-full of festival dates and headline gigs. Then, DANZIG returns
home for continued U.S. touring through late summer and early fall.

Together since 1988, DANZIG consists of charismatic lead
singer/songwriter Glenn Danzig, guitarist John Christ, and bassist Eerie
Von. New drummer Joey Castillo joined the group last year.

Since things are kind of lagging as of late (the last issue was pretty much nothing but answering the Collection question and the B-movie questions), I figured I'd throw this at you. What do you all think about when someone uses the word "sellout?" The reason I bring this up is because this is a word that has been slapped on Glenn and Henry(Rollins) by a great number of people. I suppose that Henry's performance last night on the Grammy's made me think about this question. There he was, strutting on stage in a tuxedo, "singing" his MTV hit "Liar." I wanted to say "sellout" as I watched, but I know better than that. Here's why: To me, selling out is all about losing touch with your real fans and paying more attention to money rather than making good music. You then take the money you've made and just SIT on it and do absolutely NOTHING beneficial for others without it. Then you start acting like a completely different person (dressing different, giving interviews differently than before, basically making an ass out of yourself). I guess somewhere in there you start believing all the shit MTV has to say about your sorry "voice of Generation X" ass. By this definition (which is strictly my view), Henry is not a sellout and Glenn is not a sellout. Yes, both men are making MASSIVE amounts of money (off you and me!!). BUT, they are not sitting on top of it and they aren't taking it easy. Both of these men are making it possible (through their money) for other artists to make a comfortable living and perhaps make an impact on the face of a bigger audience. Both men look the same, act the same, and think the same (FOR THE MOST PART) as they did before this new success and wealth. So what exactly are they doing with their money? Well, Henry openly admits that he does the Gap ads and the MTV sports segments and all that garbage for the money. Do you know where the money goes? STRAIGHT TO HIS PUBLISHING COMPANY. Henry takes HIS money and applies it to publishing books and tapes of authors and artists that you will not find on the New York Times Best Sellers, but nonetheless NEED to be heard. People like Don Bajema, Exene Cervenka, etc. - it all comes out of HIS pocket. Henry also takes his money and together with Rick Rubin, spends it on re-recording early-80's punk bands and redistributing the albums, benefiting both the original artists and fans who missed out the first time on the bands. Glenn does similar things with his money. I know that there have been numerous posts about how cheap he is etc....but I think he justs knows where he wants to spend his money and where he doesn't. If you look at some of the back issues, you'll notice how we talked about Verotik, Glenn's new comic company. A lot of people probably see this as yet another way for Glenn to make even more money. This is so far from the truth. Yes, he does make money from this venture, BUT like Henry, he is using it to help out other artists who aren't lucky enough to be in his position - TIM VIGIL in particular. For those unfamiliar, Tim does an independent B&W comic titled Faust that has won him the praise of many underground comic readers. Tim is also in charge of Rebel Studios, a small publisher that puts out Faust and other indies like EO and Gunfighters In Hell. Anyways, some of the stuff Tim does is absolutely phenomenal but because his company is so small, not too many people can enjoy his work. Enter Glenn. EVB told me that Glenn is planning on taking the Faust saga, footing the bill, and printing it in COLOR! This, coupled with Glenn's name, should help Tim and many of the people who have never heard of Faust enjoy something that is truly remarkable. I know most of you would check it out simply because Glenn is linked to it. If you don't believe it, how many of you have watched those B-movies because of Glenn and the Misfits? Anyways, the point is that Glenn and Henry are not sellouts by my definition. I would consider them more as "helpouts" for artists who otherwise would not be heard by the general public. Think about this the next time you want to accuse them of selling out. Yes, sellouts DO exist (what is Green Day doing with their fortune? Pot?), we just need to be more careful who we label as sellouts and who we don't. I apologize to anybody who was bored by this or who thinks that "Henry Rollins has nothing to do with the Misfits." We are 138, motherfucker...... The reason that the mailing list was so lame was that it was evidently run by a bunch of shitheads at the time, an allegedly professional company whose main gig was to do fan clubs for bands. Danzig often payed them to do things they did not do; for instance, they payed them twice to send out tour dates. They never did. Many fans complain that the stuff they *were* sending out at the time was a bunch of shit too. Liz said they sent out pencils with the skull on them. Thats about all I have to say. Well I have a little bit more to say. Why don't you sit yourself down and type some bass tab? Is this such a hard concept for people to understand? How many of you have been playing an instrument for more than 1 week? I assume than that you know what notes are. They are those funny little dotes with lines on them. They have been around MUCH longer than TAB. Maybe you have heard of it before..I believe it is called sheet music. People have been so spoiled by TAB it's making me sick. Look, I posted those chords so anyone with half a clue as to where to fret those notes on a guitar (bass or otherwise) would be able to play them. Let me clue you in....the Misfits...they weren't ones to harmonize much. If the guitar is playing a "G" I'm willing to bet my last body organ on the fact that the bass is playing a "G" also. I explained last time that when the bass is doing that galloping thing, that 9 times out of 10 it is just root, octave, or root, minor third. If you don't know what that means, I suggest learning. I have given you all the root notes...all you need to do is sit down and listen to the damn CDs and play. Unless you're Keith Richards I assume that you'll be able to hear when the guitar and bass change notes. No one likes to work for anything anymore. Everyone wants something handed to them. Learn for yourself, they aren't too tough. It takes more than being able to play a few power chords to be a good guitarist. --Robert (forever shaking his head at the people that just don't get it.) Date: Tue, 7 Mar 1995 13:16:05 -0500 (EST) well, i have enjoyed being a bystander for a little while, seeing that i have only posted once in about a month or so... but i wanna say a couple of things that just came to mind. if you are unaware, FLIPSIDE magazine released a 2 cd set called "The best of Flipside Vol. 1", i think, and it contains about 50 or so punk songs, one of which is "Attitude" by the Misfits. It is a live recording of the song, and a fairly good one at that. I got the cd a long time ago, and it completely slipped my mind to tell you about it until today. Does anyone out there happen to have any boot cd's of the Misfits that they would be willing to make copies of? I have a good collection of video boots by punk bands myself (including the misfits), perhaps we can trade... I was also thinking of this, it would be really cool for those of us who do not have access to the rare stuff by the misfits if someone made a tape of the b-sides and rare songs by the misfits and put all or a lot of them on a 90 minute tape. we could then send that person blanks or postage $ (or both) to get a hold of it. If you think it is a good idea, respond to me privately and let me know what you think. obrien81@matrix.newpaltz.edu Otherwise, post suggestions on the list. thanx. I met Glenn and John Christ in December 1993 in NYC after the show w/ Kyuss at the Roseland. Was anyone else there? Glenn was friendly and shook my hand. I may catch Danzig at The Utica Aud. April 25th. Couldn't it rather be that he's using his current popularity to sell a couple of hastily slapped together comic books and pretend he's a writer? Sorry when I first posted that bunch of tour dates that I didn't specify it was DANZIG and a few of you thought it was for the Misfits- hopeful thinking!! Next time I'll remember to be more thorough and say what band it's for! Anyway, updated dates should be in this bible as they are still rearranging dates. Mark, CG & everybody else - I'm working on a Misfits FAQ, just coming slowly since I haven't had much time... I've been going through old Bibles & taking questions that were asked in there. Of course many are best answered by consulting Mark's exhaustive discography since most are in the category of "is this a bootleg" and what record is "x" on, but if anybody has any others PLEASE forward them to me for inclusion! Sorry it's taken me so long! I wouldn't mind doing a Samhain one too if anybody has any Q's on them. Few comments on 60/61/62: Mark - I like the Tuesday/Thursday schedule so I hope you'll keep it. I don't think the size is too big & would justify more frequent bibles. Michael Joseph McCusty - welcome aboard (as of MB #61 - told ya I'm behind!) Got a great giggle from your sig "love, luck, and lollipops" from my 2nd fav P&TB episode (after "Bubba Bo Bob Brain") Alexandra Gerber asked " What's Up with the Angels of the Seventh Dawn fan club." Oh boy I could spend hours on this topic - I've been quite and frustrated about this a long while but maybe it's time I told folks what's up. Here's the scoop - Danzig had originally contracted a Van Nuys based firm called American Noise some years ago to run AOTSD for them - the band was also paying these guys to do mailings & send out things like tour dates, etc. At first they sent out a ton of stuff & then slacked off and the band only found out that stuff wasn't coming out when fans came up to them & asked "how come I never got...." etc. So after a ton of complaints the band that he wanted to do it (already doing the hot line messages & answering 95% of the fan mail himself) so he told folks to send him five bucks for a newsletter. Well, he put those out quarterly for a year but he no longer has the time. Anyway, I've been volunteering to do it for years now (feeling strongly that a real FAN who really cares about the band could do a better job than some guys just paid to do it), and have been telling them this since they started having problems with American Noise, but Glenn wanted to give EV a shot since he was so keen on it. Now that EV doesn't want to do it I've got Glenn's OK but he wants me to clear everything with their management. Here I've been running into a brick wall as this guy does not return phone calls, answer letters & the few times I've been able to get through to him on the phone he's put me on hold right away & promised to call back. I know he's a busy Hollywood bigshot (who also manages Guns N'Roses) and Danzig probably isn't his biggest priority, but it's hard not to feel like I'm getting blown off. I've written the band to tell them what's up & hope to get a chance to talk to them when I see them again on this upcoming tour - maybe they just have to instruct their manager to get in touch with me. (Hey, he might not even believe me & think I'm just coming out of left field with this crazy notion, right?) But trust me, I am doing everything I can!!! Meanwhile I'm trying to do as much as I can to promote the band - hence the tour date postings, alt.music.danzig FAQ and passing on news & info on the band whenever possible - until I can do it "officially" for them I'll do everything "unofficially" as best I can! (And if/when I get this running I can assure you it WILL NOT BE "LAME"!) Brent Eyestone: agree with you on "Sellout". Actually I define selling out as when you tailor your creation to be more commercially palatable & easier to sell to the mainstream. Let's face it, if Glenn REALLY wanted to sell millions & millions of records he'd have to ditch the "dark" side of things that tend to make most folks nervous as something a little warmer & cuddlier would be more commercial to the mass populace. Ain't gonna happen - the money isn't THAT important to him (or he would have taken the vocalist position in Metallica when it was offered to him) It just pisses me off to no end when people yell "sellout" just because other folks have discovered it when the basic music or whatever hasn't changed. Like NIN for example - I think "The Downward Spiral" is HARDLY what you'd call "accessible" and for the life of me I can't figure out how they got so huge overnight except there must be THAT MANY disaffected depressed youth out there that identify with Mr., Reznor, which in itself is a little frightening. Good point about how both Henry and Glenn are putting their $ back into their publishing companies - I think it's great they can do something worthwhile & promote fields they are interested in! (BTW Brent or anybody else - did anybody tape Henry Rollins on the Grammys? I missed it & really want a copy of it - can trade Misfits videos!) CTernes - that must be a different promo CD of Cantspeak! Mine is one of the "blank" ones that doesn't tell who the band is on the disc or sleeve. The idea behind that was to give it to DJ's that might have preconceived notions of Danzig & get them to play it without knowing who it was. I didn't even know there was another version so thanks for the info! Now I'll have to hunt that one down. Wolverine-j - the 5 city promo tour Glenn did in Europe was just to do press interviews for the forthcoming festival gigs they'll be doing in late May/June. Sorry but I don't have any dates aside from Berlin 5/29. BTW this isn't the first time they've played the metal festivals in Europe - they've been playing them for years! And it doesn't mean they won't necessarily also play clubs over there as well - a pen pal of mine follows them around Europe much like I do here in the US & he's told me they've played many clubs in between the festival dates. (If you have problems getting info on dates I can send you his address as he'd be a good person to contact) Better scram for now - off on another roadtrip again tomorrow AM. Yeah, I know the Danzig tour hasn't started yet but I'm off for three more MARILYN MANSON shows! (Stop the presses - Liz is following another band!) And I am so psyched that they'll be opening for the Danzig tour since after seeing them live they quickly zoomed up my personal hit parade to become my 2nd fav band. (If anybody is interested there is also a MM mailing list & home page - write me for info if interested!) And yes, their Eurythmics cover of "Sweet Dreams" must be heard to be believed! Speaking of MM, yes, I taped the Donahue show they were on - it was a riot! Some "old school" punks were on talking about the early days but no, afraid they didn't mention the Misfits. I'm new here, so this may be old new to everyone, but I was in the bookstore the other day looking through the rock n roll section, and I was flipping through the Henry Rollins book "Get In The Van" and there was a picture of the Misfits with Rollins. It was a nice group shot of the whole band. There was also another book called "Punk Rock diary" or something like that. The only mention of the Misfits in the entire book was a short anecdote about how they had played a show with the Damned and had discussed a possible European tour over beers afterward, and then a couple of months later the Misfits showed up at the Damned's singer's house in England completely unannounced and said that they were ready to go on tour. Even though nothing had been planned, they went on tour anyway. It's kind of funny to me that in all of those books and anthologies and histories of punk rock, the Misfits almost never get mentioned. They were probably a pretty obscure band in their day, and have a lot more fans now than they ever did when they were around. ------------------------------ From: "Bouras, Elizabeth" Subject: LATEST DANZIG TOUR UPDATES as of 3/8/95 Date: Wed, 08 Mar 95 16:03:00 est LATEST TOUR UPDATES: EV changed the message on the hot line again & they've changed around some of the tour dates, so here's the latest listing - I've tried to mark the changes with an asterisk. You guys had a lot of intelligent ideas to add to the conversation and it was a lot of fun reading your posts in return. This is what these lists are made for. To Ralph in Stuttgart: No, I haven't seen the upcoming titles for Verotik. I made those comments concerning Glenn and Verotik based on conversations EVB and I had privately. If you think Glenn's entrance into the comic field is self-serving - fine. But there's a lot of people who feel otherwise. Thanks anyways. How's Stuttgart these days (I used to live there)? To EVB: Sorry buster! I did not tape Henry's Grammy performance because I had no idea he would be on. I'll try to locate a copy for you, though. BTW, it should be known that Henry attended the post-Grammy party wearing a black t-shirt and shorts (it was supposed to be a black-tie affair!). Great commentary on NIN in regards to the sellout thing! Check out the new Details magazine for even more! To Lucifer and anyone who cares: Listen, I guess you're new here or something. So let me tell you a story. When I first posted to this list, I thought I was some bad-ass holier-than-thou motherfucker (sound familiar?) whose first post contained a rather mean-spirited flame directed toward a contributer named Big Ted. Let me tell you, this was probably the stupidest thing I've ever done with a computer because before you could say "flamethrower," I had the wrath of the Crimson Ghost upon me (do you even know who he is?). Anyways, Crimsy explained to me that flames and attitudes should be checked at the door because this list and the people on this list act like a "family." Often dysfunctional - but a family nonetheless. We look out for each other and we do not maliciously attack one another like you have chosen to do. Why don't you just take the time to sit down and think of something that is worth posting? You will find that the people on this list will be more respondent and will help you in anyway they can once you post something legitimate. For instance, in the time I've been on this list, I've become better acquainted with EVB, Yannis, Robert Flemming, the Crimson Ghost, and Chris Vomit to name a few. I've learned a lot from these people about non-Misfits things etc. through private posts. Chris Vomit and I are even planning on trading tapes, something impossible if you act like a fucking idiot and make everyone on the list hate you. Don't you have anything better to do with your time than sit like a *coward* behind your keyboard and peck out immature little comments toward people miles and miles away from you? What's your AOL bill like every month? Anyways, grow up or shut up. To Robert Flemming: I hope that the new tab format is coming along well for you. You make a good point about people not knowing their chords! Remember, if you get too frustrated, STOP!! Nobody ever said you had to do this (I know, it's your own anal-ness driving you). Good luck. To Mark: If this is a FAQ, flame me. But do you still send out the Misfits Bible in the summer? I don't recall if you've answered this before. Well, I've posted way too much once again. I hope everyone had or is having a great spring break! -Brent E. ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 13 Mar 1995 18:27:08 -0800 (PST) From: Tom Spence Subject: the last Bible, dammit! Errr.. Best bet is to ignore him (but, as you will see below, I have a few things to say to him anyways. Do as I say...) Second, here is my soapbox about the list. Majority of people like the digest format. Fine. BUT, at the same time, if we went to a mail-out-as-posted frequency, like the majority of mailing lists, problems like LUCIFER18 could be solved by a simple thing called a KILLFILE. Most unix mailers are equipped with a method to write these. Digest formats don't really allow for that. (Actually I think it's the best thing about that album...) Out of curiosity who would you consider an "interesting" artist if he is so boring? (I ask being one to collect interesting art...) evan obrien - I was at the Roseland show with Kyuss!! It was in '92 tho, the '93 NYC show was at the Ritz in May.... Wish I could make Utica but I doubt it as I'm aiming for the last 10 or 11 in a row... Also, the FLIPSIDE CD set is a reissue - there is a MUCH earlier series of vinyl releases. Vol 1 has a live Undead song, Vol 2 has the live version of "Attitude". It also came with a photo collage poster that had a cool photo of the Misfits with Vampira. Deane Greenfield - was this Danzig show supposedly in Philly? I have been to all of them there since 1990 and NEVER heard anything like what your friend reports. Or at any other Danzig show (of the 60 I've been at) I would have remembered that. Are you sure this isn't just another untruth or rumor - they run rampant on the 'net! Ralph Herbert - First off, I object to your comment about coloring Faust "slapping stupid computer colors over artwork that was intended to be in bl/wh". No, it wasn't INTENDED that way, it's just a case of it is nearly impossible for a very small independent comic operation like Rebel to be able to afford color printing as it is hideously expensive. According to Vigil he would have loved to have seen it in color from the beginning but couldn't afford it & it was a case of bl & wh or not at all. Verotik has better financial resources for the printing. As for why Glenn is doing so much of the writing - he wasn't happy with how others were writing it. He'd originally hired David Quinn to write Satanika & then got really upset because David had changed so much of it (names of characters etc) and was trying to write it to sound like Neil Gaiman! So I think his attitude is more like "if I want it done right I'll do it myself". What do you mean like "leave this field to the real pros like Frank Miller, Paul Chadwick or John Byrne" Huh? Are you saying you don't want any new stuff in the comics field & just want the same proven writers/artists over & over? while I would argue their brilliance I have to say I personally am always looking for new & interesting stuff. HororHotel - yes the 'Fits were obscure when they were around (I was into "the scene" at the time & nevah heard of 'em then) but don't try and tell this crowd that or it will set them off again...... New addition for the discography - the other day I picked up a German import CD single for "Cantspeak" - # 74321 25799 2. Tracks are: Cantspeak (album version), Cantspeak (edit), Twist of Cain (live) and Dirty Black Summer (live). The live tracks were recorded at the last show of their last tour at the Seattle center 12/19/94 (I was there & it was a GREAT show so I'm so happy they used these tracks! I just wish they'd do a whole live album or better yet a video) Thanks to all that e-mailed me for info on the Marilyn Manson list - I'm still writing back to everybody as I got a TON of mail while I was away - great roadtrip, their shows were brilliant even tho the Columbia one turned into a fiasco when Monster Voodoo machine pulled some evil end of the tour stunts on them. And I even got to meet everybody & give Mr. Manson an incredibly cool Marilyn Manson hand painted lunch box (this is up there with the Danzig cookie tins) - ciao! - EVB ------------------------------ From: CTernes@aol.com Date: Mon, 13 Mar 1995 22:18:36 -0500 Subject: HELP!!!!!!!!! Anyhow he wrote "London Dungeon" in there and on the 2 live versions i have on it he rips on the british he also says in many interviews he hates british punk and new wave stuff. Glenn also didn't seem to like the west coast punk in its day except for Black Flag. Also I think the tape idea would be cool. Maybe if we could all chip in a little for those who want one we could make it pretty nice looking and have it just for the people on the Bible. If you are looking for some of the rare songs look on like the vinyl bootlegs like RETURN OF THE FLY or like differnt demos and such cuz they have pretty good sound quality and are usually 4 - 10 bucks at the most. I have the RETURN OF THE FLY bootleg which is cool cuz it has "Last Caress" and the original Cough/Cool version of "She" on it plus there are also easy to find vinyl bootlegs of some of the singles and EP's. ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 14 Mar 1995 15:51:30 -0600 (CST) From: Deana Greenfield Subject: incident in Philly? maybe i got the place wrong i know it was in penn. though...or maybe the person just wanted to make me angry.... but thanx anyway Elizabeth and Mark for replying... deana ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 14 Mar 1995 17:20:35 -0800 (PST) From: Tom Spence Subject: misfits Mark - about the tape of all the Misfits singles, how about using the one you made for me? I'll make a copy of it for anyone who wants it.. It has all of the singles on it, some live stuff, and a bunch of demos. And I saw the Chrimson Ghost skull thing on this TV show called Northwood, a lame CBC 'cynical generation X drama.' Some skateboarder kid was running around trying to buy some acid, and he was wearing the black and white Misfits skull shirt. Does anyone know how to get onto the punk mailing list? I've never ordered from this place, so I have no idea how promptly they fill orders. Here's the facts: SOUND IDEA DISTRIBUTION 3421 S.E. MICANOPY TER. STUART, FL 34997 MINIMUM ORDER $10 *PAYMENT TO BOB SUREN* (NOT Sound Idea) If you're confused about postage, I'd either write for a catalog (send a stamp probably), or just pay the $3 to be sure. Since it's a boot, make sure you tell them to send you your $ back if they're sold out (many places will give you credit or make you choose alternates if you don't specify). I'm assuming they take cash, checks or money order (payable to Bob Suren), but don't quote me on that.....chris vomit. ------------------------------ From: dorin@Mailbox.mcs.com Date: Wed, 15 Mar 1995 18:14:02 Subject: Pushead About this pushead being boring... The reason we cannot send the bible out in single post format is that; Mark is a college student and on limited budget. The program he has simply takes mail that we send him and if it was sent to misfits@UVA.... then it simply strips the header info and places it in an outbound box. Nice and simple, however, he *cannot* do it any other way but Digest format. This has been good enough for the last year I suspect it will be good enough for some time to come. Now on the bright side RE: Lucifer18@Assholes on the Loose (AOL): this makes it *very* simple to boot him off the list. Since this list is nothi ng more than Mark's own forwarded mail compiled into one package, all Mark would have to do is institute a "Kill File" to ignore all mail from him. See Lucifer you really don't know all that much! I have persuaded mark to let Lucifer stay on the list until such time as #1) He redeems himself, at which time we would have no problem with him being on in the first place. or #2) We have a majority vote of the people who actually post to this list. To just remove him would be eating into all of our rights and exersising to much of the "Big Brother" mentality for my tastes personally. btw: only people on AOL would know this but people on AOL have the option of posting a profile. A breif blurb about yourseld basically. Well I took the time to read Lucifer18's It reminded me of somebody else's that somebody else is a member of this list now. He also joined the list under a different name and under that original name sort of talked like Lucifer. Date: Thu, 16 Mar 95 08:51:00 est Hullo again.... What's up? Not much here (i.e. I haven't gone anywhere in two days) but I'm making plans for the Danzig tour (again). Decided against Red Bank NJ once I found out the place is reserved seating which sucks, so instead I'm heading to Columbus, OH on 4/18 for my first foray this tour - I remember SOMEBODY from this list wrote me to ask if I'd be going there & now I can't find their e-mail (sorry... I get a LOT of it) so if it's you let me know! But I got my tickets for the Newport already ; the other east coast shows haven't gone on sale yet but I keep checking. Would love to meet up with anybody who's going to ones I'll be at!! (all from Wilkes Barre to Orlando plus the Columbus one) And please folks, stop e-mailing me wanting backstage passes! Most of the time I'm not there anyway & Glenn seldom hangs there after the show - if you want to meet him, 95% of the time he showers, changes & heads RIGHT out to the tour bus where he will sit in the front and sign everybody's stuff (just don't insult him by bringing any bootlegged crap) The only time this doesn't happen is when the cops are total assholes and won't let anybody stay
