First of all, hats off to Brent and EVB for their collaboration on the
audio and video compilations. It was done with impressive speed and I'm
sure everyone is grateful for their generous contribution of time and
effort.

Secondly, cheers for the reference to Repo Man and the Circle Jerks in a
posting in the last Bible. Repo Man is a great movie and I highly
recommend it to everyone on the Bible (vintage Emilio Estevez!).

Thirdly, thanks to the person who posted about the Celtic beliefs
concerning October 31st. That was pretty cool and a good example of what
makes the Bible such a good source of information.

Lastly, NINcompoop, you better watch it or I'll tell Sasquatch that you've
been tracking her for months (hee hee hee hee!).

I won't shoot you, I'll have bloodboy kick your ass. some of the stuff off
Earth AD seems to be available as instrumental - Earth AD, Queen Wasp, and
maybe Wolfsblood? I don't remember...

Well, although this may be true in most cases, this is not the case with
Mommy. Here's the story from Jerry - When the band was recording the
music (not the vocals) for the Earth AD album, Glenn fell asleep. When
they got to Mommy... (released later on the Die Die EP) they woke Glenn up
so that he could yell the "Mommy, [pause] can I go out and kill tonight?"
during the break in the song. That way they could time it correctly. Later
when Glenn added the vocals, he used the lower volume yelling as his cue.

The Demonomania Club lists the shows INCORRECTLY.

The correct listing is this:
Disc 1 - Live 4/17/82 at Al's Bar; Los Angeles, CA
Disc 2 - Tracks 1-17: Live 3/27/82 at Irving Plaza; New York, NY
Tracks 18-30: Live 12/25/81 at Hittsville; Passaic, NJ

> Can someone tell me what the label and number of the German Earth
> A.D./Evilive/Wolfsblood. Don't panic if I screwed up, someone just tell me.

The CD was released in 1991 on Modern Music: AG 057-2

Okay, okay, okay,
Mark wrote me earlier in the day and said that the live footage on the
"Fiends Forever" bootleg is actually not from Max's Kansas City (despite the
record sleeve and popular false-belief). It's actually taken from a 4/17/82
performance at Al's Bar in Los Angeles, as Mark later found out. I guess
that the Misfits were banned from playing Max's K.C. at the time that this
gig supposedly took place. It's always good to get the facts straight...
So for everyone ordering the tapes - please note the difference. I guess
everything else on the tape checked out as being correct (info-wise). Enjoy

read about it in some movie mag so I don't know if that's right or not, I
just thought it was odd.

Tim and Veronica: Did you actually thank that Glenn's on this??
That would be cool...

but anyways--coments and an observation:

On the whole slow or fast Misfits thing...I like stuff on Legacy a
lot..especially Theme for a Jackal.
Theme for a Jackal, Cough/Cool, She, Return of the Fly, Come Back,
and those sorts are my favorite Misfits songs..anyone with me on this?

I finally heard Last Caress-THE ORIGINAL- and I don't think
Metallica was able to cover it well. The lyrics seem pretty hard
core, but the music isn't. And I agree with what someone said about
how Hetfield sung flat and so on.. Green Hell was ok since
Metallica's into that stuff--but i never really like Green Hell..

I think that's a pretty cool idea to have people on the list record
Misfits songs, I'm up to it...

and now an observation...

anyone notice how Kiss of Steel by Samhain sounds quite a bit like
Horror Hotel in places?

Hello,
Well, a lot of requests are coming in for the video from foreign
countries and I just wanted to keep you all updated and informed on the
progress there. Sometime this week I will go down to the post office and
check all of the rates for the people who have sent requests from these
countries. I will then send you the rates to your personal e-mail address
and then you can decide if it's worth it to you. Okay? Finally, this is a
reminder that the videotapes are only being dubbed in American format (no
P.A.L.). Please make sure you check your VCR format before placing an
order. Thanks - Brent E.

in the past few weeks i have seen many misfits/samhain shirts
worn by the "stars" ....(joke)

 	1) if anyone has ever seen the band photo of u.s.a. for m.o.d. you
will see that this greasy haired early 80's metal man is wearing an
intium shirt (i think he is the drummer?)...then on the inside, there is
another picture of the band and they are covered with blood...samhain
ripoff, ha.
	2) if there are any NOFX fans here if you look at that video they
just put out you will see that there is a shot of them playing at the
show and one of the band members (el jefe?) is wearing a really cool
misfits shirt that i have never seen before, i thnk that it has something
to do with horror buisiness.

	3) lastly there was a picture of ian Macay when he was in minor
threat and he was a wearing a misfits shirt, this picture was totally
weird just because i had never seen ian wearing a band shirt before. (he
usually wears really plain clothes on stage as far as i have seen)

i was also wondering if any of you lived in the chicagoland area
during the summer because i am in a band that does numerous misfits
covers (slightly humorous) and we play every once in a while (whenever
our shows don't get cancelled) so email me if you are going to be there

hey misfellas and misfellets,

(sorry, just had to do that once). I got back from spring break
and read the past three bibles. thanks for all the responses about my
last post on Manny and stuff. I want to clarify what I was talking about
Earth AD songs played live. I know stuff that wasn't (I don't think) on
the original earth AD like Mommy, Die Die, demonomania etc were played
live. I was speaking of death comes ripping, green hell, devilock, and
everything off Wolfsblood other than demonomania. Out of the bootlegs
I've heard of, these and some others were not mentioned. I'd like to know
what bootlegs do have these songs. I can't get to that http sight to see
if there's any information there.
also, nobody really had any explanation why Misfits started without
guitars. Did they not want them or were they unable to find somebody to
play. it seems strange to me being a bass player and songwriter wanting
to start a band with no guitar player.
something else I've noticed. Has anybody out there been able to
find similarities between samhain songs and Danzig songs? for example, I
(maybe I'm imagining things though) think that the end of the Howl (my
favorite for some reason) sounds a LOT like the end of Mother. when I
transcribed both to bass I got basically the same chords with different
rhythm. has anybody else noticed this and noticed more?
-two more quick things. Page did write the soundtrack to Lucifer
Rising and I'm pretty sure he was even in the movie. lastly, what that
guy said about Candyman II I think is right. I saw the misfits thing on
the back of that notepad but it was really fast and I thought "nah, I'm
just imagining things" I'm glad somebody else noticed it. by the way, I
don't think wes craven had anything to do with the sequal, I stayed for a
while on the credits and never saw his name. I could be wrong though.
sorry this is so long. later.

I don't know if people are getting tired of this subject yet or not, but I discovered yet another Misfits sighting last night. In the inlay for "The Whitey Album" by Ciccone Youth ( w/ Kim Gordon of Sonic Youth) there is a picture of a girl in her room, which is completely wall papered in flyers from various shows. Towards the top of the picture is a flyer for a Misfits show. I think it was from a show in September of 1981 but I could be wrong. My memory isn't too good. The flyers were awesome though. Black Flag, Necros, etc. Wish that was my wall! Thanks for the info on the cover songs. Sorry for not checking the home page first Mark. I didn't even think about it being on there. Has anyone seen Danzig yet on the current tour? I don't remember anyone posting about it yet. I don't think I'm going to be able to see any of them this time around, and I'm not too happy about that. I'm trying to arrange a trip to Florida to see them a couple of times. That's the only time I can do it because I'm in school until then and they're not really coming anywhere near here. Hey Liz, are you still going to FL? I have a friend who lives there (that kid Marc that I thought you met at the MM show) and he's offered to let me stay at his house. He wants to go to the show too and see MM again. Things might just work out after all! Well, enough for now. BTW, I think the Bible just keeps getting better and better. It's so much more friendly and informative than the newsgroup. That's almost a joke. I'm so glad I found this! Thanx to everyone for conversing with and helping out everyone else. You all rule. Hello Fiends, Well, I just went through and reviewed the final products for the video and audio compilations and thought I would tell you what I think of them. First of all, the audio tape is excellent. These recordings are definitely the highest quality you can find (probably because most of it is from the originals). This is well worth your time and money. BTW, most people are sending in $6.00 to cover costs ($3.00 goes to the tape, and $3.00 goes to priority shipping). I recommend sending in at least that much for the video as well. Now about the video...I realize that this extra time between now and after May 7 may be getting you rather antsy and excited about finally getting video of the band. I have to tell you, don't get your hopes up too high!! I just watched it in a room full of college-aged, testosterone-pumping males. By the time all was said and done, only one other guy was still watching and another one had fallen asleep on the floor. The rest just left the room. And these guys were really into Glenn, etc before watching the tape! I think a lot of it has to do with the fact that THE FOOTAGE IS VERY OLD and ALL OF THE FILMING WAS PERFORMED BY AMATEURS. Is this clear? Please don't expect some super-slick MTV-quality grade footage. In some spots, the audio fades in and out and the picture gets fuzzy. THAT'S WHY THEY CALL THEM BOOTLEGS. I just think it's only fair to warn you about what you are getting. But then again, what do expect -it's FREE aside from shipping and tape costs. If there are any specific questions or concerns, I would be happy to address them for you. But aside from all of the little glitches, the video is still interesting to say the least. The footage from the Bethlehem, PA show is by far the best as far as video/audio quality - not too many break-ups. The other stuff is kind of hit or miss, but the dialogue and incidents between songs makes it worth your time. Watching the tape, I got the sense that Glenn just did what anybody in his postion would do (a lot of the fans were assholes!!). Also, Glenn didn't appear to be control-freak at all. In fact, Jerry appears to call most of the shots onstage - I think that he served as the backbone when the Misfits played live. The video certainly gives you a better perspective of what kind of people Glenn, Jerry, Doyle, and Robo were back then. They're actually LIKEABLE!! I must say that I am now a huge fan of Jerry's! Kudos to the first person to count how many of Jerry's 1-2-3-4!'s are in the video. Maybe you can make a game out of it. Finally, the funniest part of the video has to be the "Braineaters" video. It's just what you would imagine it to be... Finally, I got all of the European/Foreign postage rates, so all those who wrote in should have received a reply by now. And to all of the PAL users, keep your eyes peeled here because I believe that there is a guy in Italy who can convert the video for you. They have the "Initium" tribute going in full effect on the cover, blood and devilocks all. On the back they have the Skeleton with the cards, too. They cover "Attitude" on the record. One time when Falling Forward (another Louisville hard core/emo band) was here (Detroit) they played "She" and I got to sing the entire thing with the singer. It seemed like no one else there had ever heard of the song (what the hell are they doing in the hard core scene if they don't listen to the Misfits? I guess they think hard core started with Youth of Today and Revelation records). Anyway, the singer from Falling Forward said that all the bands from Louisville were going to do a 12" of Misfits covers, but that was the last i heard of it. Honesly I want the best for Jerry and Doyle because they were just as much the Misfits as Glenn was and without them and other members in the band the Misfits never would have had a horror image, the "twins of evil", such a powerful sound etc... but as far as the music goes Danzig, regardless of his personal side, he has proven his musical ability beyond a doubt. With 3 bands that all have been sucessful musically and all in their own way brillant. Of course again he didn't do it alone but he was the core of the music itself. And I hope everything works out for Jerry and Doyle but musically I don't see how they can reproduce the Misfits without Danzig. They have already tried another band and I don't think Kryst the Conqueor can ever come close to the Misfits. They may reform the Misfits and the image may be half there, after all Glenn was part of the image as well. But as for new recordings, I am keeping my mind open, but I am not scared of what the "new" Misfits will sound like. paul. ------------------------------ From: flex Subject: video Date: Fri, 7 Apr 95 18:15:57 MESZ the misfits video collection that brent and evb did sounds amazing. has anyone a heart for us poor europeans? maybe someone has a vcr that can dub NTSC to PAL format, so we can see that stuff as well??? thanx in advance flex ------------------------------ From: Paul Hahn Subject: bball jersey Date: Fri, 7 Apr 1995 14:50:55 -0400 (EDT) while at a concert last weekend, i saw kid with a black basketball jersey on. it had the skull logo on it, with the misfits written above it. i was wondering if he had it special made, or was it something you could buy. i wouldve asked him but it was a skankin pickle show and if you know about the band, one usually doesn't stand still for long at their shows -- -= Paul Hahn =- "...I'm not stupid... Might as well get this off my chest... AN OPEN LETTER TO MR. GLENN DANZIG Dear Glenn, My name is Brent Eyestone and I have been a huge fan of your pre-Danzig bands (and current band) for about nine years now. Tell you what, I'm going to cut straight through the bullshit (since you probably will never read this anyway) and get to the point. I'm sure you are aware that Jerry is re-assembling the most amazing and influential "punk" band ever - that's right, the Misfits, your second band. I'm sure you've got lots of people begging you to rejoin the group and tour all over the place, etc. I want you to know that I understand how impossible and non-feasible this is, given your current band and your comic company commitments, etc. Even if you wanted to do this, you couldn't, right? *BUT*, I do have one simple request of you that you CAN do. I want you to take about three or four months away from Danzig and hop on the next flight to New Jersey. I want you then to go over to Jerry's. I want you to break out the old lyric sheets, talk with Jerry a bit, and then see what happens. After maybe two weeks of spending time with Jerry, I want you to go into your fancy-pants recording studios (courtesy of American) and I want you to re-record the best, if not all, of your Misfits songs. Why? It's simple. You have inspired so many through what you wrote and performed with that band.... but you were young at the time. You didn't have a lot of musical experience. Neither did Jerry or Doyle. You didn't have the best equipment, and you sure as hell didn't have a lot of money. Consequently, a lot of the material you recorded was rushed and cheaply produced. I might as well just be blunt - a lot of the production SUCKED. It's just a shame that some of the most brilliant songs ever were limited by their production. But Glenn, YOU HAVE *ALL* OF THESE THINGS NOW. You have the experience, you have the money, you have the equipment, you have the best studios, you have the best producers - YOU HAVE EVERYTHING YOU WANT AT YOUR FEET!! I think that you should do this as an act of thanks for all of the fiends out here who have been supporting you since way before "Mother" made you a fucking demi-god. We want it bad, please don't let us down. We're the ones who supported you and made the popularity of "Mother" possible in the first place. We put you on MTV - please don't take us for granted and please deeply consider this. I am not asking for you to re-live the past. I'm asking for you to re-do the past for an even better future FOR YOUR FANS AND YOURSELF. We made you a fucking millionaire and all we ask for is one thing - a few mature, high quality Misfits records that we can listen to and enjoy for the rest of our lives. I'm going to cut this off here, Glenn. I think you get the idea. However, if you care to talk about this or to provide an explanation against this idea, I shall be waiting. You can contact me after May 7 at 2005 Monitor Drive, Stafford, VA 22554, call (702)720-1307, or write ScottEyes@aol.com. We're waiting... Signed, Brent Eyestone and many others **Anyone who agrees should bombard Glenn/American Recordings/etc. with letters similar to this one. I have > noticed about the "I wanna be your dog" (Stooges) ripoff but not > Misfits' "Halloween"... Hi guys. Actually, if I'm not mistaken, you're both correct. The song that Mudhoney does called "Halloween" is indeed a cover of the Sonic Youth song of the same name, but the Misfits version can be heard playing in the background at the end of the song. The version can be found on the CD "Superfuzz/Bigmuff and Early Singles" by Mudhoney, on which they credit Sonic Youth for the song. I don't remember seeing any credits to the Misfits, though there is a portion of their song in there. It's a really good song I think. That's interesting that Danzig 4p is the most stolen CD. It does make sense though. I had heard at one point that, due to pressure from record stores because of problems with the package, American Recordings decided to redistribute the CD in a regular cardboard digipack that would fit in the plastic security cases. I have yet to see any of these, so I don't know if there's any truth to that or not. It is rumored to be the exact same with the inlay, etc., but only with a different package. Does anyone know if this is true? If so, will the ones in the original packages be worth any money? I know for some items when they are repressed or repackaged the original version goes up in value. Kinda short on time for today so that's it for me. Talk to you all soon! Angela- ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 11 Apr 95 17:23:27 AST From: HellBent Subject: covers and stuff Well, the scene's not to great here in the valley, but just about every half decent band that comes from around here has performed a Misfits cover on regular occasions. It's as if it is part of forming some roots in the scene, they have to play a Misfits tune to attract the attention of the old-schooler's. Since I don't think I've wrote in since about issue #22, I thought I'd mention how I got into the Misfits. When I was around 14 or 15, the punkers from the next town over caught my attention and I fully thought they were the coolest, so I got into skating and punk and the main band that they listened to was the Misfits. To them the Misfits were the coolest band, and the Crimson Ghost was drawn all over the place, it seemed to be more of the image than the music at first, since I had heard all about the Misfits before I actually heard them, and thought they were really rad. Anyway, relating this to something else, those guys who got me into the Misfits didn't care about anything like owning "THE ORIGINAL" copies of Misfits stuff, they just wanted the music. This is what I find strange about most people on the Bible, everyone (well, not everyone) seems to think that they are cool cause they have an original pressing. Big-Shit! Who cares if it is the original or not, it's the same music isn't it, I can't beleive there are people who would pay over $25 for a Misfits album. I mean, they're one of my favorite bands, but you'd never catch me dishing out $150 for one of their albums, just cause it's an original, that's just plain foolish. As far as sound quality goes, the originals weren't that great to begin with, but hey, there a punk band, who cares if it's not crystal clear. Well, I think you get the point. I think it would be great to see the Misfits if they ever get a singer and get on the road, as long as they still have to old horror image, that would be the absolute best. I'm sure there must be a band that would take them on tour with them, I mean, they're the Misfits, what more of a way to attract people to a show. To Brent Eyestone: Great letter, I think I'll send one to American, but they never reply to my mail. To PDH: Yes, that's a Misfits tat on Rollin's arm, I'm wearing the T-shirt right now as a matter of fact. It's kind of sad - my roommate sings along to all the songs now (he's a country bumpkin). Anyways, if you haven't got the tape yet, hang in there - it's coming. And since I've been bombarded with requests for my address, I might as well post it again: before May 1 - 509 Tener Hall Universtity Park, PA 16802 after - 2005 Monitor Dr. Stafford, Va 22554 phone # - (814) 862-6250 Oh yeah, I've also been getting questions about the cover. Well, it's done now. Pretty simple - just an alien chomping down a hollywood bombshell a la 50's B-movie style. It's kooky, you'll like it. Say, after reading all of the letters that are accompanying the requests, I was a bit surprised to find only one female request (Hello Heidi). What gives? Is there just no women on this list or what? Ladies - speak your mind! We'd like to hear from you if nothing else but to get a female perspective every now and then... Okay, a few things about the last Bible... To John Durham - Hmmmm...another kid quick to call Glenn and Henry sellouts. Sheesh - will they ever learn? John, please do yourself a favor and read what we've had to say in previous bibles on this topic. Maybe you'll get a better opinion on this... I don't know which bibles in particular, but I guess you could start with #60. I'm interested in what your definition of a sellout is. Be careful though because Bloodboy, NINcompoop, and C. Vomit live within walking distance of your house!!!! I'd consider them my Astro-Zombies (if you get that reference). To Andychrist - My latest band is based in NoVirginia and we're currently planning our tour schedule before we hit the studio in late July/August. If you really need a band or whatever, get in touch with me and I'll see what we can do. Do you own a club or something? Your message was too brief for me to pick out exactly what you were talking about. To the aforementioned NINcompoop and Bloodboy - Let's do this. You two jump in the squared circle, Bloodboy gets to wear the mask and the cape, NINcompoop gets to paint his face and wear the arm tassles. We make a pay-per-view out of it! NINcompoop can have sasquatch in his corner and Bloodboy can have the Dryheaves in his corner. Yeah, that's the ticket! Anyways, I've said enough. My name is Dave and I am a midshipman at the US Naval Academy. I have only been interested in Danzig and Samhain for a little while( got hooked on Danzig at their show in Cincinnati, OH), but I definitely love the music. I have only gotten into the Misfits in the last few months, but I have gotten hooked on them too. I love all kinds of metal music. I'm a rugby player and I use Danzig songs for pre-game inspiration like "Going Down To Die" and "I Don't Mind The Pain". What a way to get fired up. Well enough about me. A few comments: I too have the "Demon Danz" bootleg and I highly recommend it to everyone. The sound quality is good and the little extras that are provided are great too (i.e. guitar solo and intro and the Misfits songs). I was wondering if anyone knew where it might be possible to get my hands on a larger copy of the covers of Danzig III and "Black Aria"? And in response to the question about artists being on the list, count me in. I am almost completely self-taught and I was being urged by an artist friend of mine to apply to an art school, but I decided I wanted to come here. I work mainly in just inks and graphite, but occasionally oils and pastels. Well, that is all for now...hope I didn't put anyone to sleep. Greetings everyone! I've got a couple of questions for all you Misfits-wise guys (and gals)- 1.) I remember in a past bible that someone said something about a song that Glenn wrote for Danzig 4p, but wasn't released (something w/ "white devil" or something in the title. Anybody know anything about this song? 2.) I was curious about that unreleased "Static Age" album. I guess since it IS unreleased that sort of limits what actually is known about, but if someone does know about it, please share. 3.) Anybody happen to have an extra copy of the gold Earth AD album just lying around somewhere? Or if you know where I could get one, I'd appreciate it. 4.) Is Glenn's song on the Less Than Zero soundtrack worth buying the album for? 5.) Has anybody heard anything lately about the Samhain boxed set? Just a couple comments (bear with me)- 1.) Another Misfit sighting- In my psychology book there's a picture of a bunch of punkers standing on a street corner. One guy is wearing a Legacy of Brutality T-shirt, with the Misfits logo in green letters. I had a shirt like it, but it had red lettering on it (I'm sure you all will sleep better now knowing that). Anyway, the article that the picture was by was about mentally troubled and angry youth. 2.) I, too, think it would be awesome if Glenn re-recorded some classic Misfits stuff. But don't you think it would put Glenn in an awkward position if that album sold better than any Danzig stuff? That might be a far stretch, but it could happen. And with so many people that love to label him as a "sell out", I'm sure they wouldn't miss this chance. Of course it won't make any difference to Glenn- as long as he still gets his "fair" share of the $$$. Well, I'd better stop blowing hot air for now. Hope you all enjoyed my senseless drivel. Please direct all flamings to x85205c1@usma2.usma.edu or write and ask for my mailing address if you want to send me money or gifts. Till next time... In it, both Rob and J. are wearing Samhain shirts (J. gets maximum points for wearing a non colour one!). In the accompanying interview I saw, Rob was asked "Which of your peers do you identify with?" to which he responded "Pantera, Marilyn Manson and Danzig". I'm glad he said this as I heard a load of rumours that after the two had played together, White Zombie fell out big time with Danzig... so it's cool to see two cool bands getting on together. Thanks to Yannis for putting Veronica Crenshaw right... not all English people suck. If I remember correctly, Ms Crenshaw based her judgement that we're all 'assholes' on the fact that some officials fucked up someone's immigration proceedure. Well, if we all based our views of nations on their officialdom, we'd all end up being assholes (from what I've heard US cops make ours look like anarchists). Also, every week MTV Europe's HB Ball says they're giving out the Danzig Euro tour dates... then never actually give them. Anyone know anything more, prrimarily are they playing the UK at all? One last point, the MTV HB Ball best video category includes 'Cantspeak'. What say we get everyone (plus friends) to vote for it. Crap visual effects aside, it'd be nice to see a decent band win for a change. I'm probably gonna piss everyone off with this, but I like to see what people like me are into... include your current playlists with postings (it's great to spot the 'obscurity' freaks!)... Well, what I am talking about is track 6 on the Mudhoney album: "Superfuzz Bigmuff plus Early Singles." The track, "Halloween" is performed by Mudhoney, the song was originally relased January 1990 as the flipside to a split Mudhoney/Sonic Youth 45 (Sub Pop) Written by Sonic Youth. So, *yes*, it's a Sonic Youth song, what I meant that it was *Mudhoney's* version of the Sonic Youth song "Halloween," and if you play it really loud in the quiet part you can hear the actual recording of Misfit's "Halloween" playing in the background. Anything > to do with Black Flag's rise above?? Of course you've heard of it. Indeed it's the Black Flag song from the Damaged LP on which Robo plays drums. The Misfits began playing it in concert when Robo joined the band. There are at least 2 bootlegs (10/29/83 and 3/20/83) in which they play this tune. You can also hear Doyle do the guitar for the beginning of the tune towards the end of the Al's Bar 4/17/82 show. The song, like most songs the Misfits covered (and there were 4-5, including one on the new album !#$!@@!) was NEVER recorded in the studio. In other news, New Jersey fiends, WAKE UP!!!!!! It is horrible. It sounds like the Cure + Techno + Depeche Mode. What a disappointment!! I am not trying to judge for everyone, I realize this is just my opinion. I just wanted to warn everyone, just in case. I don't know what everyone knows about the Louisville scene, but it is strictly hardcore. That's why I was so disappointed, most of the songs have drum tracks and synths on them. They could be used for dance music at some techno club! I didn't even recognize some of the songs. Hello Fiends, Once again, I chucked out the bait and you guys pounced on it like a pack of hellhounds. Good deal. I was a bit disappointed that the only people to object to the re-recording of old Misfits songs were T. Crenshaw and Flex. I figured there'd be more. Oh well. To be honest, no, I really don't want a 48-channel "Last Caress." I just want to see what would happen if Glenn, Jerry, and Doyle actually DID get together. I think Tim's got me all wrong - I AM a true Misfits fan. That's why I'm taping all of these cassettes for people I don't even know. That's why I sported a devil-lock back in seventh grade. THAT'S WHY I WANT THE "ORIGINAL" MISFITS TO GET BACK TOGETHER AND POUND OUT SOME NEW TRACKS. Who wouldn't want to hear what these guys sound like together NOW? The reason I suggested that they should do the old songs is because I'm sure that Glenn wouldn't want to give the energy into writing new songs for a side project. But I was really thinking of something else that I couldn't put in the letter to him. You see, my dad is a huge Eagles fan (bear with this). Now, when the Eagles got back together last summer, they had intended on just re-recording the old shit and then going on tour. BUT - something happened. At the very first practice these guys had, THEY WROTE TWO NEW SONGS after just jamming with each other. This is what I am hoping to happen to Glenn and Jerry! Got it now? We would get some new songs plus some better quality versions of the old songs. Come on Tim, admit it - you WANT them to get back together, don't you? It's okay - just admit it. If not, maybe you're the one who's not a true Misfits fan! OOH!! AAH OH! POPPIN' FRESH DOUGH, SUCKER!! Just kidding, man - I'm just clarifying my intentions, that's all. And you have to admit - a lot of the songs sound like they were recorded in a wind tunnel. Okay....well, to everybody who wants American's e-mail and snail mail addresses, I will check them and post them later in this here issue, okay? One more thing, recently here at PSU, we had this huge used book sale. For those of you interested in Misfits-related (somewhat) stuff, you may want to check out "The Mystery of the Crimson Ghost." Fuck - I forgot the author's name. I'll post it along with the American addresses. Sorry. Anyway, I haven't read it yet, but I'll be sure to type up a book report for you all when I do. That book sale was really cool, you pay $4.00 and get to take home a grocery bag full of books. For all of you Smashing Pumpkins fans (hello....anyone?), I picked up a 1938 copy of "Way Down East." This is the book/film that Billy drew A LOT of influence from. In fact, "Gish" comes from the actress Lillian Gish, who starred in the movie. Other books I stuck in my bag included the Fonz's biography, the Harlem Globetrotters, the Tron activity book, the story of Sesame Street, some Rex Miller stuff, and tons of 50's style books on rockets, UFOs, skulls, puberty ("The Story of You"), and this kooky, old horror story titled The Bat Wing. Those 50's style books have great pictures that remind me of old Misfits art (that's why I buy them). Okay, I'll put up the author's name and those addresses soon. -Brent E. It happened about three years ago in Sacramento, my home town, and was on the news; it is also pretty sick. OK, some people vandalized a graveyard around town and painted the wings of an angel statue black and wrote the Misfits logo underneath it; they also broke into a crypt and stole the head of a corpse. I remember getting a little panicky about it because my mom used to get on my case about the bands I listened to and I didn't want her to associate the Misfits with graverobbers. She didn't say anything about it and I really don't think she realized it. Oh well, that's my stupid little story. Bye. My name is Scott and this is my first time writing. Actually this is my first time even on the net and I typed Misfits and got really jacked when all this stuff came up (now I can figure out most of the words I've never understood). Anyway, I go to the U of Illinois in Champaign-Urbana if there are any fellow fans out there--god knows I can never find anyone to talk to about Glenn and the Misfits out here in f'in "pearl jam and smashing pumpkins land". Now to get down to business, and excuse me if this is long-winded. I have had tons of questions about this stuff forever and no one to ask about. I only had time to read #72 and #73, so just tell me to shut up if a lot of this stuff is repeats--I promise I will read up asap. 1) I was in San Diego a month back and found a cd at Taang's called "Beware and the Rest". I had never seen it before and got totally excited--paid 30 bones for it. It has totally black and white cover, and on the side it says "the misfit" without the "s". Did I get dogged into paying this much? 2) Wanted to say I agree totally with Tim Crenshaw about Glenn not re-recording w/ doyle and jerry, and also about not improving the quality of the current stuff. That's what makes it vintage, man. Do I really want to be able to understand what Glenn is saying? No offense to Brent--seems like you're a bigwig around these parts. 3) Whoever has evilive, does anyone else get a rise out of how many times glenn (or jerry--sorry if I am wrong) says "1-2-3-4" or "1-2" at the intro to each song? It's like, "oh shit, cant think of anything else to say--1-2!" 4) The misfits mailing address in jersey (po box 310...)--Is this old or new misfits? 5) I am not starting shit, and i am not calling glenn or henry sellouts, but you can't deny that glenn has progressively mellowed since the misfits, even since D1 and D2. I mean it seems to happen to everyone--look at Metallica. 6) How the hell do you guys get backstage and whatnot at shows? Saw Glenn in Chicago last december and tried to get backstage and just got denied like a champ...for the record was an awesome show--lost a considerable amount of blood in the pit. Kinda disappointed glenn didnt join us. I was really mad that the show was sponsored by Q101--this poser alternative rock station. Basically, much of the crowd was just a lot of people dressed up waiting to hear mother. 7) Any info on where to actually find Earth AD or other stuff--keep it coming. I appreciate it. Anyway, I'm on my way. Sorry if y'all are sleeping out there--first time, ya know? Just wanted to say you guys seem pretty f'in cool. It's really hard out here to find anyone who listens to danzig, samhain, or the misfits shit. I mean there are the posers, all the MTV "mother" people, but most of 'em suck cuz that is as deep as it goes for them. I'll do my best to catch up on other issues so I know what to ask next time. I will leave with a quote (seems the trendy thing to do). One night me and some guys were hanging out and drinking (sans women) and listening to Astro Zombies. One of my friends said "what are the words to this man, I can't understand 'em." Some other guy piped up and with this wicked expression on his face said, "they're whatever you want 'em to be." I've always wondered if glenn knew what he was singin half the time. Anyway, it's been my motto ever since. Hope ya liked it. Until later, keep the stuff coming... It is called "Ten Years of Fuckin' Up." It was filmed by Tribal Video, Alex Yeung and Aron Hershkowitz. Edited by Alex Yeung, cover photo by Lisa Johnson. It is Fat Wreck Chords catalog item #FAT590-3. It contains video footage (live, self-produced and otherwise) of the followings songs: Stickin in my eye, Johnny B. goode, green corn, shut up already, shower days, gonoherpa syphilaids, straight edge, s/m airlines, six pack girls, the longest line, buggley eyes, beer bong, leave it alone, jaundiced eye, johnny appleseed, moron brothers, iron man (black sabbath cover), bob, kill all the white man, and "a lot of other cool shit," according to the back cover. I would highly recommend this video to any NOFX fan, or even just fans of that "Jawbreaker" sound, because it's quite lengthy, with quality video (for the most part) and is very well done, not to mention the price (about ten bucks). -- Lord Valgamon 800-241-7337 ext. 1673# ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 18 Apr 1995 11:22:51 -0700 From: "Ricky Hinojos" Subject: Guitar mags and tuning Guitar mags and tuning 4/18/95 Gabriel Palczewski wrote: Also you need to include the Order No. Here are the numbers... Hello Fiends, I guess I'm writing to say hello to all these new fiends who've been writing lately. My best advice to you all would be to start reading the back issues - it prevents clutter and repitition (something we vets have fought tooth and nail over so many times). Also, I have to agree that the sightings stuff is getting boring - EXCEPT for the one about the cemetary, that was at least interesting. From now on, maybe you should either check the back issues before posting a sighting, or just ask yourself if it's funny or interesting (i.e. Mother Theresa sporting a Misfits/Necros Tee). Here's some more responses... Yes, that is Jerry shouting 1-2-3-4 before all of the songs on Evilive (and every other live recording). I told you - Jerry's the backbone for the live shows!! Also, about Glenn mellowing out...uh, yeah - it happens! I think what happens is that you grow older and one day realize that a whisper can be more menacing than a scream. That's the secret to NIN's success, at least. Plus, when you're younger, there is more energy and drive to jump all over the place, etc. It's just one of life's natural processes...you get old, you get mellow. Otherwise you look like a fucking fool (Mick Jagger, Steven Tyler...). Also, to everyone who's opposed to the re-recording of Misfits songs - NOBODY IS GOING TO MARCH INTO YOUR HOUSE AND STEAL YOUR "VINTAGE" COPIES!! If you want to listen to the old, rough stuff - you still can. I know I would/will. I just want to see Glenn, Jerry, and Doyle get together more as an EXPERIMENT to see what would happen than anything else. The song thing is just an excuse for this meeting to happen. My brother's band has versions of Bullet, She, and London Dungeon recorded and I'm sure they'd be happy to contribute. He used to be on this mailing list back in the early days, but has since ceased to exist in the email world. And I'm happy to say, I finally received my Frightnin' Facts postcard in the mail today. Thanks CG. Nelson" Subject: bloodfeast actually i have seen a copy of a live bloodfeast -- it is on the samhain live demos (last gasp) 85-86. pretty lousy quality. i think that it is a cool idea to have bands from the bible do some songs. i am in a band that plays practically every misfits song. (we went a bit crazy) anyway that would be cool. as for the misfits getting back together with glenn --FUCK THAT. if glenn was to get back with them it would be called glenn danzig with the misfits and it would suck because all of those trendie fucking mother fans would show up and ruin the show. fuck danzig when it comes to the misfits. he makes good music but i do not think that he is needed for this reunion to happen. one last thing -- dark vorlok -- how tuff are you. i have an idea for you (it comes from antonio montana in scarface) "why don't you try sticking your head up your ass and see if it fits." i really do not care to read about you mastubating all over yourself. i hope i am not the only one. if you have stuff to say that is cool, fine. but i do not need a lecture from you about how you are an individual. i think that practically everyone on here is cool and has thier shit together when it comes to the being an individual or they would not be this into the fits and all that other punk shit. if you want to throw shit like that around, try the fucking pearl jam home page. thanx again angelfuck ------------------------------ From: Evilive@aol.com Date: Wed, 19 Apr 1995 20:39:38 -0400 Subject: Jerry and Doyle Hey I'm seeing Danzig in Redbank, NJ on April 26. I was talking to this guy at a record store and he said Jerry and Doyle where going to be there and might do some Misfits shit with Glenn. I always thought it was Gabba.. you know, Gabba Gabba Hey! Jens- Initium is an AWESOME album for Samhain!! ...and I agree Final Descent is the worst...well, maybe not that it's bad..just too different..too Danzig. Yes I know, Danzig is actaully Samhain with a new name...but it changed so much from how it was in the beginning. Mark- Samhain page is good, yes. Scott: I was at the same show in Chicago. It totally pisses me how the crowd roars when they hear those first three chords of Mother. Everyone sings along "Mother!" then they're silent fer a while til Glenn says mother again "MOTHER!!" Q101 sucks!! Evil DON-- I'm with ya 100%! My band could do something. Got in early and headed first for the signing Glenn was doing at the comic store "The Laughing Ogre"; got there about half an hour early & it wasn't terribly crowded. Got a chance to talk to him & gave him copies of the FAQ's I'd written for alt.music.danzig (also posted to Mark's web page) - I begged him to please check them over for me & if there are ANY errors to PLEASE let me know so I could correct them. Unfortunately he's not real interested in going online as he's got a very low opinion of the net and the folks on it. He thinks that people on the net need to go out & have fun & get a real life ("But Glenn, I don't have a life when you're not on the road" That got a good laugh out of him) He said he had checked out American's web page one day when he was over at their offices. >From the signing we went to the venue to get in the front of the line. The show was sold out & the line quickly grew - the funny thing to watch were the various Manson's sneaking by and watching the line - Daisy went around the block three times without being noticed by the rest of the line; I waved to him, not wanting to draw attention to him lest he get bothered & I got a slight smile in return. Got in & grabbed front row center spots. endured Korn; I thought they were pretty pathetic. Marilyn Manson were BRILLIANT! I'd say of the 6 times I've seen 'em it was their
