Hi All:

Whats the deal with Slayer?? Slayer is not a NAZI BAND NOW OR EVER WAS!!!
Slayer is one of the only true metal bands that is still around and hasn't
changed they style. They didn't go industrial like Nine Inch Glenn!!! Not
that I dont like Danzig, but I dont like the way he is going now. I hope
Slayer keeps going cause I really like their music and they kick ass in
concert!!!!

Hey,
As far as I know from what I read Slayer is not a nazi band nor are
they into satanism. They are into war and the occult as a hobbie. They
are fascinating subjects that are found in books and movies as well as
music. They read about it and write songs about it because that type of
subject matter fits the thrash/death sound of their music. It doesn't
mean that they worship satan or follow Hitler's beliefs. You guys
shouldn't be so damn gullible. Do you think that Glenn actually went out
and hacked the heads off little girls and put them on his wall? No, he
wrote that because he was interested in horror movies and he was
inspired by them. Don't get me wrong, there ARE bands that worship satan
and practice nazi beliefs, but don't automatically believe it because
you hear some stupid rumors. Seek the facts.

If they still plan on using the Famous Monsters Of Filmland cover they
should make the title something like "You Axed For It". Is Basil Gogos
doing the cover art? Are they going to have Lon Chaney Sr. or the Crimson
Ghost in the top left hand corner? Also, shouldn't it be Volume 2, Number
1? Does anyone really care...

one of those horribly mixed up Misfits sightings.

OK. here we go:
In the new PSYCHOTRONIC VIDEO GUIDE (wich everyone should own by now...) the Crimson Ghost
serial has a rather large entry (there's even a nice b/w pic). It reads exactly like this:
----------------------------
THE CRIMSON GHOST
(Republic, 1946) Director: William Witney, Fred C. Bannon Screenwriter: Albert Desmond,
Basil Dickey, Jesy Duffy, Sol Shore

This 12-chapter Republic serial stars Charles Quigley as the criminologist hero and Linda
Stirling as his assistant. The Crimson Ghost (I. Stanford Jolly provided the voice) steals
the cyclotrode, a device that can short.circuit all electricity. He also has control
collars for his henchmen. When the collars are pulled off they're killed by an electric
shock. The ghost is one of the greatest serial images , a mystery man in a cape with a skull
face and glaring eyeballs. An 80s New York City band, the Misfits, used the ghost as their
symbol. With Clayton Moore, Keenean Duncan, and Eddie Parker. The 1966 condensed feature
version is called Cyclotrode X. On cable TV it's been shown colorized and cut.
----------------------------

That's it. Hope you didn't fell asleep.
Peter.

Another thing wich has nothing to do with the Misfits: if somehow (I don't know how) someone
got the impression because of one of my posts somewhere in Bible #265-275, that Chris Hatcher
rips people off - it's not true.
Are you satisfied man? So when's that cd gonna be in my mail box... ;)

     Happy New Year Fiendlies --

Just got back from vacation and found my miserable self referred to
in TWO bibles -- woo hoo! Yes, twas *I* who invoked THE MENTORS!@#$*! For a
real treat, seek out their VERY early material, when they were on Mystic
Records -- a pretty seminal Calif. punk label (Dr. Know, Flower Lepers, RKL,
Slaughterhouse 5, and a host of excellent compilation records.) Frankly, I
don't see much of a comparison to GWAR as someone put it --- those bands are
from two different worlds (literally!)

As far as the great A.D. debate, I can't believe the amount of folks on
the bible who actually think that it means "after death." What do they teach
you damn whippersnappers in school nowadays? As mentioned by others, it
means anno domini, or "year of our lord" as you often hear it in films and
such that have a medieval feel. Not too diabolic there, I always thought the
title was a reference to the film "Dracula A.D. 1972." (though I'm not sure
that's the exact title) a decent flick with our black-clad hero sucking the
vital fluids from a bunch of hippies who had the misfortune of disturbing
his slumber.

However, it's not too much a stretch to assume that the actual meaning of
A.D. also escaped the collective Misfits mind and the title does indeed (to
them) mean Earth After Death --- as the cover art might lead one to believe.

Though I haven't picked up Blackacidevil (and don't intend to),
"Sacrifice" gets some late night airplay on our "Modern Rock Station" here
in Philly. Not to rehash what others have said -- but geez, Trent Reznor
should fucking get royalties! Since the "solo" Danzig is not as much of a
screamer, that sung chorus makes me feel like I've been chewing on tin foil!
I've also heard a "dance" remix in a club and it was at least tolerable --
of course, it could have been the 8 shots of Jagermeister clouding the brain
that night :(

  My top five? (1) Vampira (2) Devil's Whorehouse (3) Hybrid Moments (4)
Astro Zombies (5) All Hell Breaks Loose. BUT I LOVE EM ALL!!!!!

So I can finally be timely -- the great Slayer debate. Unless a band is
blatantly white power (Screwdriver, etc.), how can ANYONE label a band by
the affiliations and beliefs of its fans. Many years ago, I worked with a
skin who tried hard to hide his beliefs. Ok, he didn't try THAT hard, as he
was soon fired for drawing swastikas in the employee bathroom -- and his
favourite band was Minor Threat -- and all of his pitiful Aryan brothers dug
that straight edge stuff too!

I remember when the death metal band Suffocation (whose lead guitarist is
black) headlined at a local club. The pit was packed with Nazi skins who let
loose a barrage of "Seig Heils" between every song. If they really felt so
strongly about that garbage, then what the hell were they doing there in the
first place?

Yes, Slayer does have some "Naziesque" imagery, the MOST telling of which
seems to be the "eagle" logo they've done lately. Slayer's fan club is
indeed called "Slatanic Wehrmacht." Let's get one thing straight -- Kerry
King shaved his head `cause he *WAS GOING BALD* and there's no "Thrash Hair
Club for Men" as far as I know.

   But ...

I was fortunate enough to interview Dave Lombardo (Slayer's BEST drummer
-- and probably one of the great thrash drummers of all time) about his new
band Grip, Inc. for a zine I used to publish called "Reaper's Harvest."
Without naming names or citing anything specific, he alluded to the fact
that the racist beliefs of the rest of the band (Lombardo is Hispanic) were
to blame for much of the turmoil. At one point in the interview --- he said
to me, "Let's put it this way -- Angel of Death is more than just a story
song ... "

OK, so I've contradicted myself repeatedly -- but let's not brand
probably one the greatest bands in the genre as Nazis due to the actions of
the misguided fucks who appear in HBO documentaries with "Decade of
Agression" banners behind them.

   That's my lot.

Subject: Slayer, nazis, etc.

I will continue to reitterate that Slayer are NOT Nazis. As I said before,
the lead singer/bassist is Latino, and at recent concerts and instores there
were several non-whites there enjoying themselves, and the guys were equally
cool to everyone.

If subtle Nazi references make you a Nazi (ie Slayer using the iron eagle,
iron crosses, etc etc), then Glenn Danzig must be a pretty big one. Not only
does he wear the SS's Death Head, but in the song "Lords of the Left Hand"
there is a line "Triumph of the will.....superman". Superman would be in
reference to Frederich Nietzsche's view of the superior being, which the
Nazis compeletely misinterpreted as a reference to the Aryan race. Triumph
of the Will is the name of perhaps the most famous Nazi propaghanda film.
Anyway, this is really off the topic of Slayer.

I also distinctly remember them stating that they were not Nazis in an
interview....I'll hunt it up.

As far as the "S" in Slayer.....gee Kiss must be Nazis, too.

Angel of Death does NOT GLORIFY anything. It instead describes. If they
were Nazis, wouldn't they have denied the existence of the Holocaust? They
actually constantly said that this song does not glorify but instead is meant
to show just how fucked up the Nazis were. If they were glorifying it, they
did a poor job.

Kerry King shaved his head. So did I. Why? I got sick of having long hair.
I was sick of having knots in it and spending a shit load of time on it. I
suspect that the reasons may be the same, especially since he head bangs a
lot more than I ever did. Also, he's got tattoos on his head now. I suppose
the fact that Michael Jordan shaves his head is irrevelant...

The eagles....why do they use that? I don't know. My guess is because it
looks cool. Go through any book of Nazi memorabilia or whatever and you will
find the coolest looking stuff. That's not to say it stands for anything
that is right, but if it looks cool, and they don't have to pay royalties to
anyone. Why not? Look around the metal scene, and you will find a lot of
bands use Nazi symbols, many I would guess unintentionally.

I hope that this conversation is kept to a mature manner, it is often a
difficult one to sustain, so as soon as it turns bad, I think we should all
agree to can it.

Subject: hi

Hey fiends!!! This is my first time posting to the bible. I live in
Springfield, Illinois unfortunately so not many people share my interests in
music. I love all types of music and I love the Misfits. I am a big fan of
death metal as well. I saw the Misfits play this summer with the new singer
and it was my first time seeing them live. I never had the chance to see
them with Glen unfortunately. I was totally blown away at the energy these
guys put out in a show. I believe they played every song they ever recorded
and it was 100% effort on their part. I have never seen a band give that
much energy to a crowd in my life. I walked out of that show and couldn't
believe it. I will admit it was at the Milwaukee Death Fest and they blew
every single death metal band that whole weekend hands down.

So I have been trying to hunt down anything I can find on the Misfits. I
have always liked them but when I saw them live I fell in love. What a great
fucking band. I have gotten a hold of a tape that is a cable access show
from Michigan called "Why be something you're not." It is pretty good
quality and it has a couple other shows on it and I have one more tape too.

If anyone wants to talk about the Misfits or if you happen to like death
metal send me some email at SeanC138@aol.com. I'd love to talk to you!!!!

I have a question and I hope you can help me out. I heard that Earth A.D was
being re-released and I can't find it anywhere. Can someone please help
me??? I love Earth A.D. I know there has been a debate about this but I
think it's a great album. Also what's the deal with Mars Attacks. I know
this is probably old news to you guys but I heard they were going to be on
the soundtrack and I can't find that either. Thank you for all you help and
I hope to talk to you all soon!!!!!

Subject: Nazis, silkscreens

Hey fiends,
Well I guess the MB is back to Nazism again...
I'm not a big Slayer fan, what I do know though is that lots of bands have
displayed Swastikas or other Nazi insignias, but have certainly not been
white-power. Both the Ramones and the Dead Boys were said to wear Nazi stuff
both on stage and on the street. Alledgedly the Dead Boys once really offended
a Jewish studio executive with this stuff. Sid was another one with a
fascination for the pins and logos. DeeDee Ramone once said in an interview
that he collected Nazi relects as a kid living in Germany. Additionally most of
this occurred before the advent of the white-power movement. These bands/
individuals did it to rebel and tell the public to fuck off; probably nothing
more. Is it the same with Slayer? I'm not one to say, but there does seem to be
a precedent for this type of action set by punk bands; albeit a strange one.

As far as silkscreening; I put a CG skull on the back of my leather jacket
using basic acrylic paint. To get the design right I used a Xerox machine to
blow up a good picture of the skull (straight ahead, square, etc.) which I then
traced onto a piece of poster board to make a template. I then taped the
template onto the jacket and painted. I finished it off by spraying the painted
parts with a gloss. It looks pretty good. The advantages of this method are: 1)
since I now have the template I can do additional copies for others or touch
ups on my jacket. 2) No dicking around with silkscreens. 3) The guy at the art
store said that acrylic paint is the best for preserving the leather so it
doesn't dry and crack. One tip if you do use this method its best to allow the
paint to dry for a couple of days. Even though it may seem dry it can peel off
if it comes in contact with something sticky (like a vinyl bus seat).

heavy music like slayer, you dont go talking about corny green day
shit. Only evil stuff sounds good with speed metal any way. I dont
think it really matters what they say, They are still an AWESOME band.

Minutes after reading that Adam West was playing at the Black Cat, I managed
to get myself on the guestlist.
I'll never miss an Adam West show for the rest of my life. Those guys rock!
The bass player has an AMAZING sound. I love that bombing bass sound.
The vocalist isn't bad either. Although he really should look into getting
a distortion box, so his vocals will have that cool 'blackacidevil' sound.
(Just kidding Jake) With the exception of a few feedback problems in their
first song, the sound was a lot better than the last time I saw them at
Asylum, although this set seemed shorter. One downer was that I had to leave
before Polyplush Cats came on (another great DC band, as well as friends of
Jake).

Heads up to the NewYorkers on the bible. Jake mentioned they are definitly

nope...the calender was not adopted until the 6th or 7th century AD, I
forget which...I seem to remember it being under Pope Gregory I ("Gregory
the Great" but I'm not too sure anymore). And the reason the dating is
incorrect is because obviously there wasn't much record back then of when
an insignificant carpenter was born in an insignificant Roman province.
Most scholars today believe that Christ was born in about 4 BC, (which
means we're now really in 2001) and was executed in AD 28 or 29, during
the reign of Tiberius. I think we discussed all this in CG's Operator's

What's the point? Glenn has a large variety of musical output.
His tastes change quite a bit and from record to record. Personally
I think a lot of it has to do with whose producing the record.
But the point is, with Glenn doing so many kinds of music, is it
totally out of the question that at one point he wanted to do a speed
metal record? I don't think so. Glenn likes to 'dabble'. So what?
I'm with a lot o' folks on this list who think that EAD is the Misfits
worst album. But that doesn't mean anything. It's still Glenn.

As far as CG's point about Initium being the next logical step after
Walk Among Us, therefore EAD was all Jerry's influence, I say no way.
By your logic, Kryst the Konquerer should be the next step after EAD.
Granted, I've only had limited exposure to Kryst, but I don't think
it sounds like EAD at all. Again, I think EAD just shows Glenn's
willingness to try new things with a new producer.

Attention Fiends: Glenn has been a busy guy lately, his going to be starring
in a movie, yep a movie. The movie is called The Prophet II: Ashtown. It's
comming out sometime this year. It's produced by Neo Motion Pictures and
distributed by Dimension Films. It's directed by Greg Spense (Children Of
the Corn IV), written by Matt Greenberg (The Killing Box) and produced by
Keith Border and Joel Soisson (Bill & Ted's Excellent Adventure). The major
characters of the movie are played by Jennifer Beals ("The Wrong Man"
segment from the movie Four Rooms), Glenn Danzig, Brittany Murphy (Tai from
Clueless), Tim Roth (Pumpkin or Ringo from Pulp Fiction), Christopher Walken
(Bobby from Wayne's World II) and Russel Wong (Park from New Jack City).
Christopher Walken is the star and plays "The Angel Gabriel." He plays the
same role in the first Prophecy movie and is the only reacurring character.
I never seen part one but It's a horror, real evil I think(I'm going by the
commercials). Cant wait till this one comes out.

Subject: If the Misfits can go to Czechoslovakia, Danzig can go to Ybor City...

Hello fiends...

first off, it seems we got some problems with tour schedules for Danzig and
the Misfits. I guess that Danzig thought that if the Misfits could got to
Czechoslovakia then they could go to Ybor City, Florida. I was very
curious when i heard of this tour date. See i have lived in Florida all my
live and i have never heard of this place. so after several maps, the
phone book and area code listings, plus the internet and virtual maps. NO
PLACE IN FLORIDA. and even if it did exist, we would be talking a sink
hole near some water. Maybe that is why the Jacksonville date was added
after the tickets went on sale.

Dave - actually Glenn is given credit with Eerie on the November Coming
Fire LP for the Photography, though either that is no excuse if he said he
took all the photos, or Metal Edge screwed up. Oh as for Trade school, i
don't know about trade schools in NJ but the one here in Miami - Robert
Morgan Trade School - i had friends that studied, cooking, graphic design,
print making and photography at this place. it was part of high school,
where half day was there and the other was at the high school we all went
to.

Chris, you need to calm down and stop listening to We Are 138. Next ya
know we find out you got locked up in a white padded cell and a straight
jacket. cause you where trying to get the one hundreth and thirty eighth
CD of Earth AD, as they took you away you where mumbling," but CG said AD
ment In the Year of Our Lord."

Itchy - Wax is another term that is used instead of Vinyl, but they are one
and the same. the acetate is suposed to be a plastic derived from acetic
acid. if they are still made like that i am not sure. there usually
pressed as promos, some are pressed to first here the sound, actually some
magazines have them as part of the mag to get you to buy it. in the early
80's there was a british mag called Flexi Pop that each issue featured a
band on the cover and had their newest song on the brit term Flexi Disk,
our term Acetate. The only band that was worth getting from that mag was
Bauhaus, though that issue is very rare. There was a magazine here that
used to do that for punk and hardcore bands. i have it some where and i
think the DK's were on that.
By the way, try and get some sleep, spelling shit wrong is one thing but
loosing your mind, well that is a bit to far.;)

Mark B., i know that Earth AD and Blackacidevil are very broad across the
spectrum here, but both where not what most people would say was Glenn's
best work. they are truely a sign of that time.

Misfits 101... Not gettting SCREWED
I'm happy that everyone is enjoying the Misfits 101 stuff.
I just feel that those of you who are just starting out to collect should
not get screwed by all those assholes out there. I knew most of them at
one point in time, and i can say that several took there shot at ripping me
off. The known Misfits collectors who sell records even Misfits and
Samhain originals, for the most part from my experience are lowest scum who
would sell their own mothers if they could make a buck off the deal. They
know what they have, they know the value and they know the value of all the
other rare punk and hardcore if trading comes into play.
That is why i made sure i knew as much as they did. I would clip out any
list of rare punk and hardcore for sale so i could have a guide. when i
would by from dealers who knew their stuff and where reputable, i would ask
questions about the other records (other than the Misfits) values. I have
kept lists of prices on the rarest of each label other than PLAN9, so if i
needed to trade or had one of those records i could say, " well you need to
give me more than just a Horror Business for a Necros Sex Drive 7"." Some
of these guys would just come out and ask for ridiculous amounts of money
on a 7" that i knew was not worth that much. No one at that time was going
to drop $150 on a black vinyl first press Three Hits From Hell.
One guy would ask if you could find Pinball Machines he would trade some of
his rare Misfits record. Shit the shipping alone on the Pinball Machine
would pay for your three hits. First if you find someone that has Misfits
and Samhain originals for sale and its not a record store, ask around, do
you know this guy (sorry to say i still have not come across a female that
sold Misfits stuff). How long has he been selling stuff, who has ordered
and actually got the records from him. i admit i took some chances in the
beginning since i did not have anyone to ask about the guys i bought from
or traded with. But this is now much different and you all have hundreds
of fiends to talk to and ask. also make sure they insure the records when
they go out, i had some problems with the post office and my white vinyl
Die Die. finally i did get it but only cause Chuck Cleaver had insured it.

Also check out the record you got, if they are the grading that the seller
said they where. i was really pissed getting a poor condition Beware when
i was told it was VG+. If the worst happens and you have been ripped off,
bug the crap out of this guy. I'm a little wary about Po box's but if you
have an address find someone who can really find this guy. I did threaten
Dr. Strange, and a friend of mine called and took some shots. I told him i
would wreck his business if i did not get my money back(6 months was a
little too long for me). He called back in 5 minutes and i got my money a
week later. If this is someone who sells through MRR or Flipside even
Goldmine, you can really do major damage to them by placing ads about them
ripping off people. Goldmine is more severe punishment, they loose their
seal and they are screwed. that takes years of advertising to earn, and we
are talking thousands of dollars in the process. well more on not getting
screwed and learning about the other side of the punk and hardcore coin
next time.

Later to all the fiendies!?!

First something important: Some of you may remember some time back about Patricia GIVING away a BLACK vinyl Horror Business single. I remember posting something to the effect that she gave it away to a kid to start his collection and I mean she GAVE IT TO HIM for free! Well the deal was that *IF* he ever wanted to sell it Patricia would get asked first. Well this kid sold it, sold it to another bible member without even asking Patricia if she wanted it. Without mentioning any names I'd like to say to the person that purchased it that it was promised to EVB should it ever be sold back to Patricia. I know you bought it fair and square but I'm asking you if you want to by chance honor the original intent of the deal by selling it to Patricia or EVB directly. I want to reiterate that this is a black Horror Business, one of 25 copies pressed. This record is the one that was one the juke box at the Mudd Club, moreover, it was a birthday present from Glenn to Patricia. Regardless of it's condition it's worth considerably more than you payed for it and I'm sure that Elizabeth will be glad to pay what it's worth. I'm sure I'll catch hell for this but what the fuck. Someone said recently that Glenn wanted to grow and evolve (in regards to Rick Rubin) Well that's bullshit. Rick Rubin is a businessman, and a damn good one at that. If it weren't for Rick Rubin most of you dopey cocksuckers wouldn't even be here cause there never would have been a DANZIG. He signed Glenn when they were NOBOBDY. Rubin knew a winning combination when he saw one. For you people to endlessly defend Glenn because he wants to grow...Well that's a load of shit, he's not growing, he's branching into genres he knows absolutely nothing about. Personally I think he's trying to cash in on a fad. Glenn is time and again a day late and a dollar short. Glenn is no genius. He saw how big NIN & Marilyn Manson were getting and he wanted a stab at it. He's always been on the tail end of ANY fad as far as music goes. He's no originator, he's a copycat. It used to be he was a rather good copycat but these days his music is hackneyed and boring. It is possible for a band to grow within the genre that they are best at. The transition between Samhain and Danzig I, II, III & IV are perfect examples. Those albums show a clear cut case of a band slowly evolving into a close knit group that really knew what they were doing. Danzig V, however, is in a completely diferrent direction, gone are the melodic tunes that turned 99% of us on to Glenn in the first place. Melody is replaced by synthesis and samples, bells & whistles, with total disregard of musical content. It's sad to see someone like Glenn actually detracting from his voice. Have you ever seen a surreal painting by Van Gogh? Have you ever seen an impressionistic Salvador Dali painting? The answer is NO. I guess they were boring and one dimensional by perfecting their individual genres, right? Bricks Said: >I'm with a lot o' folks on this list who think that EAD is the Misfits >worst album. But that doesn't mean anything. It's still Glenn. Yup no argument here, it's Glenn alright. SHITTY GLENN. But you all missed my point. Bands like Black Flag were getting big out in California and Jerry liked the style, the speed and intensity. Glenn did it either to satisfy Jerry, or possible to capitalize on the hardcore movement at the time. >As far as CG's point about Initium being the next logical step after >Walk Among Us, therefore EAD was all Jerry's influence, I say no way. >By your logic, Kryst the Konquerer should be the next step after EAD. >... I don't think it sounds like EAD at all. Again, I think EAD just shows Bricks are you that dimwitted? well I guess you do work for the government... What I was saying is that EAD was fast and boring like Kryst and Samhain is more like melodic punk 'ala Static age or Walk among us. Sure Samhain and early danzig are heavy but it's still a total departure from EAD. As far as you people talking about Glenn and his religious beliefs... He's stated time and again that he holds no stock in any religions, PERIOD. That my friends includes Satanism, Catholicism, or any other ISM. He flatly denies the existance of any higher power. BTW. for the record I believe Glenn could have known the meaning of AD. Hence the album cover art, possibly a poke at how hypocritical ALL religions are? This however has absolutely nothing to do with musical content, which was my original thesis. The occult EDGE to his albums is simply a marketing ploy to attract you dopey cocksuckers, and that's about the only thing I agree with Jerry on. As far as BlackASSHOLEvil goes, excuse me if I don't play it 50 times in an attempt to like it, or justify it JUST BECAUSE it's Glenn. I listened to it once and decided it wasn't worth further attention. When it comes to music I tend to call a spade a spade. I think it sucks, and I'm not going to force myself to listen to something just because my IDOL put it out. Some of you are posting just that. That's elitist in the worst possible sense of the word, to convince yourselves that it's great and wonderful and NO ONE gets it but you, wonderful evil you. ~-=`=-~-=`=-~-=`=-~-=`=-~-=`=-~-=`=-~-=`=-~-=`=-~ "...your cunt's so big you can drive through a truck and every guy you meet knows you sure been fucked..." - Williamson/Pop Crimson Ghost - othello@magicnet.net -=`=-~-=`=-~-=`=-~-=`=-~-=`=-~-=`=-~-=`=-~-=`=-~ ------------------------------ From: VADER Subject: Man Whats Up With Glenn Date: Fri, 10 Jan 1997 13:18:31 -0500 Ok now I been hearing lots of not so cool shit about Danzig lately...I was wondering if any is true. First I know or think that he's fired his whole band right...did he even get rid of John Christ, how about Eerie Von????? Also I heard that he's doing Techno sh*t or Industrial crap.. what the f*ck is that... Any way I was just wondering because Danzig will be playing in my city in a few weeks. If it is all true then hell I rather stroke myself at home. Because the last time I saw Danzig he was awesome during the Dirty Black Summer Tour and if he's gonna continue to be a cock and do what he's doing he has lost a fan. Also I want to add I saw the Misfits recent tour 3 times already and Micheal Graves f*cking rules. I was very impressed. At first I was kinda sceptical about it..but man I waited all my life to see the Misfits and it still over the 300 shows i been to they where the best. Slayer is in the top ten too...and get a clue people who think slayer are Nazis or Satanic....there are what one song about Joeseph Mengala and they are Nazis.....Misfits wrote songs about aliens are they from outerspace..I dont think so....are they teen agers from mars...no...if they are now they are middle aged men from mars...so what hell....Now on the other hand Mercyful Fate they're satanic...they have said it....so where did this whole Slayer thing arise from anyway. ZippyThePinhead http://www.eden.com/~zippy more evil per ounce.. ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 10 Jan 1997 10:36:46 -0800 From: Neil McAllister Subject: Off topic: Painting your leather jacket. On the subject of painting leather jackets. I used to do this a lot. Acrylic paint is indeed what you want to use. Not so much to "let the leather breathe" -- cuz it sure as shit won't do that -- but because it's flexible. It dries into plastic, basically. (Try this... glob some acrylic paint onto a piece of plastic like a margarine lid, and then peel it off a few days later.) Acrylics will stick to most anything, they dry fast, they're easy to clean up (with soap and water) and when they dry they're waterproof! Artists oil paints are no good to use because they don't really ever dry (I'll spare you the art materials lesson). As soon as they start getting dry, they'll start cracking and maybe flaking, when they're on a leather jacket you're wearing around. I did it though, back before I knew anything! And it worked too -- cuz once the oil paints got dry to the touch, I painted over them with a layer of Clear Gloss Acrylic Varnish. This made a sandwich out of the leather and the varnish, with the oil paint held in place in between. It was real shiny-looking, but I just can't get the effect out of acrylics that I can get with oils sometimes. Your only other real choice is enamel paints. These are like Testors model paints or the paint in paint markers. This will work, but they dry really hard and inflexible, so once again they'll crack and chip a lot. With acrylic paints, don't go for the tubes. Get the stuff in jars. The stuff in the tubes is full of thickening agents, so the color won't be as vibrant, the paint won't go on as flat, and it won't cover the black leather as well. Also, tube paint is thicker; the thicker you pile the paint on to the leather, the more likely it is to crack (though the cracks aren't as severe as with enamel paints -- more like "splits"). You can thin acrylic paints with water, but that makes the paint layer weaker overall, so you want to avoid that. Make sure you look on the jars of paint to see if the color is "opaque" or not. If it's not, you'll want to paint the jacket with white first, and then paint your other color on top of that. If you screw up, don't be afraid to make corrections with black acrylic. I find that when it dries, a small spot of matte black is almost invisible on leather. Once you're done, you shouldn't have to let the acrylics dry longer than overnight. Once they're dry to the touch (you can run your hand over them) they're pretty much completely dry, unlike oils. They WILL stick to stuff... I've had to peel my back off of plenty of vinyl chairs -- but I've never seen any damage to the painting from that. Acrylics are pretty tough. But whether it sticks to vinyl is not a test of whether the paint is dry -- it will pretty much do that forever, maybe until there's enough dust on top of the painting to prevent it. And that's your punk rock lesson for the day! Now you can look the part. (Hessians take note also.) How's it going? I've got a favour to ask of you. Racer Ten has made a video (it cost us a whopping $350). We submitted it to MuchMusic and they refused to play it because it wasn't good enough quality. We think that's a crock, and we want to let MuchMusic know that people would like to see our video. So, here's the favour: please email MuchMusic (rsvp@muchmusic.com -or- muchmail@muchmusic.com) and tell them that you heard they received a Racer Ten video and that you want them to play it. I would appreciate it very much if you would do this for us. They were usually given free with music papers or magazines and the sound quality was stunningly abysmal. Some UK bands (the Sisters) included them with singles as limited runs and others (James Rays Gangwar for example) would hand them out at rare live shows. These little items can fetch an extortionate price if you can track them down. In the record pressing business though, I thought the term acetate referred to something else. After the masters had been cut, and before a test print in vinyl don't they normally do a print in really soft plastic just to test the grooves?? If these things get played more than about twice they die, so although collectable...not listenable. Just my tuppence (is that two cents worth?) It's just a running joke among fiends here about the number 138 and the Saved by the Bell episode. And it is improper to post a flame where you ask people not to post flames. : ) As far as the name of the new LP, what about "Evil Never Dies" or "The Second Coming" or make cataloging the LP very difficult and just call it "The Misfits". Since the "Misfits" LP is listed as "Collection I" everywhere, that is possible. As far as the Slayer thing, please stop! I hate the band, they have nothing to do with The Misfits, and I think their guitarist, Jeff Hanneman (sic?), is Jewish. Guess that kinda puts that one out. Hey, FEAR were considered a Nazi band for a decade or more. Their guitarist is African-American and their drummer is Hispanic so I guess that's out of the question. Anyway, I counted the word Slayer as many as The Misfits last ish, so it's a bit out of hand. L8R fiends. Spider, the lead singer, is Rob Zombie's brother. And Powerman 5000 played at one of the same Ozzy shows that Glenn did. So that plus Glenn's friendship with Rob probably led to them being on the tour. The two groups (White Zombie and Powerman 5000) don't sound all that similar. Powerman 5000 has sort of a rap/metal sound to it, in a similar way Rage Against the Machine does. And that's not how I'd describe White Zombie. Perhaps the similarity is due to a shared childhood reading comics, watching horror movies, etc. Who knows ... On to another item, I don't if this has been posted or not yet (if it has, my apologies), but John Christ (advertised as "formerly of Danzig) has a track called "One Song" on Guitar World's "Smell the Fuzz: Guitars that Rule the World, Vol. 2". It's a pretty good song. Other tracks are done by Billy Corgan of Smashing Pumpkins, J. of White Zombie, and Ace Frehley. A record store near me had it hidden in the compilation section. Also, looking through a multimedia file promoting "The Crow" that I hadn't looked through in a while, James O'Barr, the creator/artist/writer, said that among the artists he listened to that influenced him when he first started the comic were the Misfits. I had heard about his other influences like Joy Division, Bauhaus, or Nick Cave but I never heard him talk of the Misfits before. Anyway, I just thought it was cool because I'm such a fan of his comic ... - BILE666. P.S. -- To "Just Another Fiend", please e-mail me about the Death Dealer thing. Subject: And to think, i might end up coloring for a living... Hello Fiends... Oh wait, am i in the right place? you would think the way the last bible started out we where members of the slayer's list. I want to thank Patricia and Bobby, who where the only people who knew about Ybor City. Funny thing you live in the same state for almost 30 years and you never here of this city. By the way Patricia Liberty City is on the map, and so is Carol City. They don't want tourists to end up there by mistake, it might be their last. PtrMlr - actually there is a second series of Crimson Ghost about a crystal skull, though that one is hard to find. About the silkscreen thing - if you are having problems all you have to do is go to an art supply store, Pearl is in most of the major cities and some small ones. There are kits that come with everything you need, or the ink is a lot like printers ink so you could use that. there is a way of making a screen without the camera equipment or chemicals. there is a special film that you aply to the silk and you etch it out with a art knife (see i didn't use the X word ;) ) cfarrell- First press black vinyl Earth AD is $10 - 20 max. That place you saw it for $45 is a rip. shit i paid $35 for my purple and red vinyl Earth AD. The Halloween bag - well the number pressed, Hey Mark, you would know this, price $10. it came out with the newer release of WAU back in 1990. though i know Mark has all the dirt on that. Even though its not some really rare piece from the day, i framed mine and hung it on my wall. Misfits 101 - Not being SCREWED Part 2... well last time we talked about how to start out and where to go. Checking out the people you buy from. Well first thing is check out the local non chain record stores in you area, you might find some rare goodies that either can be added to your collection directly or used as trading material for Misfits stuff. Also record conventions. theses are great to go to, the ones in Miami sucked as far as Misfits stuff but i could always find trading pieces. I have a feeling that most of you who live in other states like NY, NJ, and CA might find some better stuff. Plus i have discussed this with some of the traders i deal with, they bring records with them to use in deal they make at the shows. you might not have $60 - 150 in cash on had to by a Misfits original but with a little cash a some good records you have a good chance of going home with a Misfits original. Also keep with you a list of what you are after at the show, it makes things very easy to locate and to remember when you go dealer to dealer. Plus keep you list of price values with you so if the prices are not at the top of you mind they are at hand and you will not likely get ripped off at the show. If a dealer gives you a price its not etched in stone, this is just as if you where at a flea market, you can bargan with these guys too. if you start of with a stupid low price you will bargan to what would be reasonable. The big step, you have trading material now what, well first contact some of the people who have ads in MMR or Flipside, practice on trades with them. after a while you can take your own ads out, trade straight, sell or auction for the money to pay for your Misfits records you want. But you really need to do a couple of good trades so you don't end up with the short end of the stick when you advertise and bring them to you. Start off with people in the states, Europeans and the Japanese can give you a hard time and a real run for your money if you have not done the trading thing. They play hard and i know even with really experienced traders have had rough times or put into situations that needed bailing out. Oh yeah, you can trade with the local record stores, you see a Misfits piece they would take some other rare hardcore or punk piece if you have for trade. Though its back to knowing all the other Music. You can't collect one band the way i have collected all these years without knowing the records from the other bands in and out. Most traders and sellers know the labels that will get them the money they need or used for trade. TOUCH AND GO, DISCORD, REVELATION, SST(ORIGINALS NO REPRESSES), SUDDEN DEATH, QUINTESSENCE, DANGERHOUSE, TAANG, POSHBOY, etc. then you remember goofy stuff, like Agent Orange's first 7" is very valuable since they put it out on their own, no known label. That the guy who wants to trade his Three hits does not want a 7" that was a common press on Poshboy records. It's lots of little things that you start to learn and make it even harder for some asshole to come along and rip you off. There was a guy who would have given me a Horror Business if i handed over on of 8 7" records off his list, each record on his list was worth 3 - 5 copies of Horror Business. What happens to the poor full who doesn't know his or her other records than the Misfits ;)!!! Well next time we start to learn more about the other records and what to look for. They might just mean a color vinyl hybrid for your collection, at least it did and still does for me. When further asked if he believed in the Devil, he replied that if you believe in God then you must also believe in the Devil. (Rather Zoroastrian, isn't he?) Why, because there isn't deep songs like in previous releases. The more Danzig's voice gets distorted, the more I think he's not into singing anymore. If it wasn't for the good coupla songs where Glenn do really sings in, I would not have listened to it after that first time. Now, someone mentioned something about some real fucked up versions of 'sacrifice', and it really saddens me the way Glenn has been dealing with his music lately. I think he wants to go mainstream because the kind of the music he now plays. and because of him featuring a mainstream icon 'Jerry Cantrell' in his new album. And last but not least, his usage of a Black Sabbath cover in a studio album. He already is somehow mainstream because of 'mother' which drew a lot of fuckers claiming to be fans, fuckin poseurs, while they still know one album and listen to three songs in it. Same that happened with Metallica and their fucked up plan to even grow more popular with their new crap. The bottom line is, it's all business. There is nothing wrong with that, lose a fan and gain a dozen. If he continued on with that shit, he may even turn me out of his old stuff. Every time someone rants that madly about something, I earn that much more respect for them. This is not a shared opinion though. I think that ever since the Cough Cool single came out, Glenn has made a gradual transition to "Blackassholedevil". Although it is his worst album in my opinion, i don't think he's really copying anyone. He's a smart guy, and I've always felt that bands like Nine inch dick were cheap rip offs of samhain. He sees that they're making money on what he used to do, and now he's cashing in on it. JUST LIKE THE MISFITS!!!! This last record (if you can call it that) was the most dramatic change since Danzig fizzled into existence, but I dont think he's any less a good musician for trying something new. (or old, depending on how you look at it). Im not denying hes looking to cash in, but nothings sacred. I realized that after the Misfits signed to geffen. This world is based on sell outs and wanna be's. I don't think Glenn involved himself in the punk scene because he wanted to be successful. I mean c'mon. Its punk! The Misfits are regarded as one of the 1st great north east HC / Punk bands, just as Black Flag was in CA., Minor Threat was in DC and Negative Approach was in MI. The money never lasts, and then you are left with nothing but the memories of owning a record that lots of other people are dying to get their hands on, including yourself. I see it this way CG, this kid is obviously the one ment to have the record at this point and time. You know what is to be is to be. I just think that all the stuff we do has a reason behind it, Patricia thought that by giving the first kid the record was the right thing to do in her mind. Unfortunately he did not uphold to his part of the deal, though i still for the life of me can't figure out why he sold it in the first place. Shit if i had it, it would never leave the house. I know of one fiend that had all his stuff in a vault box at a bank. This was confirmed when a friend of mine went to visit this nut and was taken to see his collection that was in a locked vault box, though that is getting carried away. Shit there Misfits records. AZ, if it was 411 then you could charge a quarter each time they asked a question ;) Oh, and a dollar if you send them to Misfits Central directly. Bile, actually with the Crow, you are right James O'Barr, never mentioned his liking of the Misfits. I have not seen this in any interview. Though in the first pressing of the Crow comics on Caliber Press the 4 comic mentions Legacy of Brutality in the writing on the back of the comic. The pressing that was done on Tundra press, the third book that finally finishes out the series, has a guy the Crow kills (look for the page that says Gravity). He is wearing a Black Flag t-shirt and the shirt he has over that, on the back says Misfits. Though from what i have heard about James is that he had witnessed the murder of his own fiance. if that is true, you can see the rage in him just in the drawings alone. The lyrics that are in the books are from Joy Division, The Cure, and some poetry. I guess this could be considered a Misfits sighting but that doesn't matter one way or another. Adam, you should pay anywhere from $3 - 40 on a Die Die My Darling. The higher end on the purple and or white vinyl ones. Its not easy finding one with an insert, i just lucked out. Though i still have not found a purple one with a good price yet. Misfits 101 - Learning the other stuff... Itchy - the only Necros 7" i have is the one on Gasatanka records - Tangled Up is what it is called. its worth a whole $10. The rarest is Sex Drive, which there are lots of bootlegs of that. Its very rare to the point that the members of the Necros do not have copies of their own from what i was told. it is the first 7" from Touch and Go Records(only 100 pressed). This is considered a good trading item for a Cough/Cool. they are priced the same if you try to buy one. Cheapest i saw one once $150. Though still the cheapest Cough/Cool i know of since it was offered to me $175. Unfortunately for me Taang records was a little to slow in writing back. Though at the time $25 was not a big deal in the difference. Necros had another 7" IQ32, there was two sleeves an one was rare, it was called the Skate Park Sleeve, though i never saw what it looked like. There was an LP called IQ32 also. that is usually $30-50. By the way this is all on Touch and Go. Touch and Go has some very valuable records that make for good trading or selling to get your Misfits record. the second release in 7"s was The Fix - Vengeance(200 pressed). Great song by the way, Tesco Vee does a cover of it on a label run by a Fiend, if i remember correctly the label is Staple Gun Records. The 7" can go for $175 - 300 with no problem. The Fix had another rare Touch and Go release called Jan's Room. - $75 - 150.(1000 pressed) Also if you can find it there is a list of the top 100 valued 7"a in punk and hardcore. its a british thing which makes things hard since the prices are all in pounds. My copy was faxed to me and is not fairing to well i must say. I do have to point out that the #1 is the Misfits Teenager From Mars acetate, being that there are only 5. Its not hard finding and putting together the first 10 from any label, plus those are usually the most valuable. Next time well hit on Discord, their fun to trade with, plus not as hard to find, right off bat i can thing of two places that have the Minor Threat 7" for sale and i don't mean Live at Buff Hall. Later to all the fiendies!?! tes777(TAMMY) ------------------------------------- To contribute to the next issue, please send email to: misfits@virginia.edu mailto:misfits@virginia.edu (Netscape Mail) For more information, contact Mark Kennedy at: msk4m@watt.seas.virginia.edu For answers to most questions, please visit Misfits Central before posting: http://watt.seas.virginia.edu/~msk4m/ The Misfits mailing address is: Misfits Fiend Club | P.O. Misfits Bible, Number 284 Friday, January 17th 1997 Today's Topics: Stuff ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Date: Wed, 15 Jan 1997 15:14:19 -0500 From: "m.s.k" Subject: Stuff Hey Fiends I just thought I'd go over some of the recent news in a specially requested Mark-only issue. MISFITS CENTRAL WEB SITE ------------------------ First, Ryq Hinojos and I (but mostly Ryq) have been continuously updating the Guitar chord section of the web page, so anyone who hasn't seen it recently should check it out. We're still missing tab for some of the newer songs, as well as almost all the Undead stuff. (http://watt.seas.virginia.edu/~msk4m/guitar.html) Second, I updated the Collector page, the Pictures page, the Lyrics page, and the News page to give the whole site a more consistent look and make it easier to use. I removed a lot of dead links and updated others, eliminating stuff that wasn't really important. No major changes took place though - I just made it easier to handle. Third - there's a new Undead web page. Bobby Steele spent some time putting together a nice looking Undead web page with an online catalog. It's a lot better than his old page, and everyone should check it out. If you still haven't heard the Undead, don't waste time - go straight to: http://watt.seas.virginia.edu/~msk4m/undead/ Finally - new Bible Subscribers, please check out the web page. Almost all your questions can be answered there, somewhere. MISFITS HALLOWEEN SHOW CONTEST ------------------------------ Rocky Caiafa (manager) is looking for pictures from the Halloween '96 Misfits show in Philadelphia. He says it was the best Misfits show ever and wants shots of the band in their Star Trek Halloween gear. The person who sends him the best set of photos will win a free ticket to the next Misfits show in Philadelphia. Send them to: Rocky Caiafa; PO Box 281; Glendood, NJ 07418 MISFITS BIBLE MAILING LIST -------------------------- I updated the mailing list program to make things run more smoothly, thanks to a nice perl script by our friend Robert Flemming. I now have an accurate count of Misfits Bible subscribers (1025). Our 1000th subscriber was everybody's friend Blag Jesus. Let me know if you experience any major unusual problems. I will probably have to shut the mailing list down permanently sometime in the summer between May and August due to the fact that I will be graduating from college. I would like to have a permanent Misfits newsgroup created by that time, so anyone who is familiar with the process of newsgroup creation, please contact me. FIEND CLUB ---------- Fiend Club stuff - the deal is the same as always. The band is still in the process of entering names into the database and John Grimm is working on a new postcard now. It will probably be sent out sometime in the spring. Be patient. The Fiend Club has never sent a mailing out to everyone at once and remember that membership is free. Also, if any of you are still interested, I still have several thousand of the tour postcards from the summer. If you want one, email a 32 cent stamp to me: Mark Kennedy; 630 Cabell Ave, Apt 4; Charlottesvill VA 22903 If you don't want it to be postmarked, please email a 5x7 inch envelope with 55 cents postage and I'll send you 4 or 5. NEW STUDIO ALBUM ---------------- New Album - The new Misfits album is still scheduled for April 8th (April 22nd in the worst case) release. The album is now tentatively titled "ATTACK OF THE MISFITS."
