I too remember when there used to be TONS of things to contribute and respond to - but now all that's left is to bitch about Static Age and how Glenn is or isn't an asshole... I remember how some of us used to have to scroll down the Bible with a piece of paper and a pen, copying down all the things we wanted to respond to... And when it started to drag, we'd come up with new topics related to the Misfits or Danzig or just music in general. I thought it was so great when everybody responded to my "sellout" post and how we all exchanged a lot of interesting views without slagging each other. Then there was "first Misfits experiences," etc. But now I just sit here, staring at the screen, trying to come up with something new to throw out there, and I can't think of anything that hasn't been beaten to death already. A couple issues ago, I was reduced to posting a sighting just for the sake of contributing SOMETHING!! Damn, I hate sightings... I don't know what else to say. All the "old schoolers" have pretty much gone into non-existence: maybe that has a lot to do with this void. Yeah - who remembers when the Crimson Ghost used to keep us up on what Jerry and Doyle were up to? And EVB with her never-ending (but well worth the read) posts about Glenn's exploits...I sure as hell miss those. Then there was Bloodboy and C. Vomit from Virginia Tech (and Child in Heat/NINcompoop), Cternes, Don, etc. Damn - if you people are still out there, let's hear it because Vlad's right - we are slumping and in dire need of some cool topics and/or news. I especially would like EVB to post what she knows about the remnants of Danzig because if anyone knows FOR SURE, it's her. Take Care, Brent P.S. Maybe if some people would check out Mark's page, they would be inspired. The address is of course at the bottom of the Bible. Yet my freind Mark who was doing an internship at Roadrunner records said that Type O Negative is booked for Halloween at the Limelight. So then where's the show gonna be? If it is at the limelight I doubt I could really afford the tickets. To get in that night you pay a thirty dollar cover fee (drinks not included) That is really pressing my budget. Also the amount of posers and wannabe preppy types in the limelight is astounding since its 'the place' to be. One more thing there was a promo poster put out for TFM I saw it at curmudgeon records in Edison N.J. a week later the poster was off the front window. It was the old crimson ghost design and the old spray can Misfits logo on the top left corner and on the bottom I think it said 'The Misfits return from the grave, Teenagers from Mars out Sept 19th' I talked to the owner and he said that he was keeping all the posters for himself. As I said erlier, I've been reading your back issues (still have to read from about #65-85 though) and there is some stuff I'd like to address/add my 2 cents (hopefully w/out repeating a lot of what's been said already; I know many readers are sick of hearing the same info. and arguments all the time) Anyway, I'm rambling (a warning--I may tend to write long posts) The unreleased Danzig songs are: 1. Angel(s) of the Seventh Dawn (you have this in your section already) (recorded for Lucifuge) 2. The Other Side (also for Lucifuge) 3. Livin' Doll (for D III) 4. White Devil Rise (everyone knows this one by now...on Danzig V?) 5. Crucifixion Destruction (for 4p) My friend Craig also came across some others around the time D III came out, but he can only remember something like "Black Rose" (or maybe "Black Kiss" after Howard Chaykin's comic, which Glenn likes). Judging by some of your previous posts Mark,I get the impression that, like me, you prefer the 7" version of NOTLD. I am praying that they will include this on the box set, since the only copy I have is from a duplicate bootleg. (a much better choice for the 14th LP than, say, "rat fink") There's more I want to say, but I've taken up enough space for one post already (sorry to those of you hate Danzig...wait a minute...never thought I'd say that...!) !!! before I forget...can I still get the Bible video/tape/whatever you guys made last year? And does anyone know the 2nd verse of "Kiss of Steel" (it was omitted, like the last verse of NOTLD on WAU) BTW, the line in "Die, die..." is DEFINITELY "don't cry to me oh baby" (NOT "don't try to be a baby"; in some parts, it becomes "...come cryin' to me oh baby, your future...") This is what I always understood as the lyric, but it is particularly clear on the live SAMHAIN bootleg cd ("THE MISFITS - SAM HAIN [sic] LIVE '85 (Secret Records)). If either of them has anything real to say, anything with meaning, anything w/ intelligence, in their music, it's Glenn. Type O Negative is good but it's all just so silly. Like he's laughing at himself and the whole dark image he's trying to portray. He tries way too hard to be outrageous and shocking. After a while it rubs you like steel wool. Whenever I've heard Glenn talk about Type O, he had nothing but compliments. So Steele is just being ungrateful, which doesn't seem out of character. It's very low brow of him to do that, especially to someone in a chat room and not right to Glenn's face. Glenn, his "little twin" my ass. When it comes to talent, Glenn's a titan in comparison. That's how I feel about all that ... - BILE666. P.S. -- To the guy two Bibles back who said that Jerry Only was nothing to the Misfits and that Glenn was the backbone of the band, you'll never get me to swallow that load. I'm not going to debate who was the creativity behind the Misfits (personally I think it was Glenn), but there never would've been a Misfits without Jerry Only. To me, Jerry represented all that the Misfits were really all about. Aggression, speed, rage, power, fury. Was he the world's most skilled bassist? No. But does it really matter? When you see the video where he destroys his bass before the first song's even done, don't tell me that that passion and power isn't what the Misfits was really all about in the first place ... ------------------------------ From: WEIBEL@chemistry.chem.utah.edu Date: Thu, 12 Oct 1995 20:52:51 -0600 (MDT) Subject: contest Crimson Ghost, I would much like to see the answers to your contest. "Livin' Doll" was in, I think, Hit Parader, or maybe Faces. I have the article at home, so I'll check the date if it's on the bottom of the page (I just clip whatever has Glenn and chuck all the Bon Jovi/Skid Row/anyhting else). That article is kind of interesting, as comments are given by both Glenn and John, saying how they work "like a tag team" in the studio (I guess things change...) for "Her Black Wings." (They also mention playing "Heart of the Devil" live for the "Low Way Back from Hell Tour" (I think "Pain in the World" might be a better tour name). Also, "Bodies" is mentioned as being "tentatively titled." I read once where Glenn said the song titles are "apt to change" after they're recorded. What else could he call them? He uses almost every song-title in the songs several times. (I wonder if "...Summer" or "It's Coming Down" ever had dif. titles. Anyway I'm taking up a lot of space again,so I'll get to the next bit... "Crucifixion Destruction" was mentioned in Guitar World or something, in "The Passion of Christ" interview. "Angels of the Seventh Dawn" has also been mentioned often, and is of course the fan club name. (Has anyone else got anything other than a little t-shirt order form in the last two years?) [I just noticed I spelled "Long" as "Low" up above...no I'm not a moron] Did I forget any other unreleased songs...? nah...that's all I know for now...except Glenn mentioned in Meta Edge that he thinks they recorded 17 for 4p...minus "Crucifixion" and "White Devil" that leaves 2 more unknown. BTW, in Detroit I met Eerie and Glenn, and asked Eerie if they were gonna release these ever. I named all of them in the few seconds I had only to get a "uh...I dunno." Maybe now that they're gone, Glenn will release them later and dub his own bassand drums over them..and then the originals can get picked up by Caroline...and then be set for a release date..and then get cancelled..and then get postponed until Feb. 1996....wait a minute, I'm talking about some other Glenn Danzig band, aren't I? I guess I should have asked Glenn that question instead...I asked if he had any Lucifuge inverted cross necklaces he'd sell me. (He seemed to like the Iron Cross I was wearing w/the Danzig skull pin mounted on top, like the one he wore for the Thrall tour." Anyway, I once again apologoze for the length...Mark don't worry about mailing me before the Bible goes out...your page and mIsfits Book have done me too much good for me to ever complain. (But tell me seriously if you want shorter posts...or just keep your finger on the space bar when you see one of my messages.) Before I go, EVB, can you find out any more unreleased songs...maybe bug Glenn to put 'em out on singles or e.p.'s?? next time you see him? I thought it would be cool if people had any interesting stories about any Danzig, Samhain, MIsfits shows that they have been to. I saw Danzig in Sacramento on the DIII tour. It was really cool with the skull drumriser abd the purple lights coming out of the eyes. It was really close to Halloween(I think it was a few weeks before the show that was recorded on the "Thrall\Demonsweatlive" EP) and Glenn seemed to be enjoying himself, I wish that I could remember the set that they played. However, I do remember Glenn asking the crowd if thy wanted to hear any old stuff. I was hoping that through some sort of miracle he would play a Misfits song. Hey, I was just wondering about that song that was recorded for Lucifuge by the name of "The Other Side" or something like that. Anyway, was it a remake of the Doors' song "Break on Through (to the other side)"? One reason I was wondering is because the black and white band photo from Lucifuge looks VERY similar to the photo of the Doors on their "The Best Of" album. Also, has anything heard anything lately about Danzig (or at least what's left of Danzig)? Weren't they supposed to go back into the studio in August or something? And has Glenn found new guitar and bass players or what?? Anyway, I can't wait until the new Misfits albums come out. I guess it's less than a month now until Collection II is released (barring any delays). Let's hope this one actually makes it to production. Is the Static Age CD really going to be one of those "limited edition" thingamajiggers? That is just up to personal opinion. Pete is not being necessarily ungrateful either. Glenn didn't write his music nor did he take T.O.N. on tour for all that long. I saw them on tour together and Type O was better. I didn't care for Danzig on the last tour. Glenn is no titan in any sense. Peter just feels that Glenn backed out at the last minute on taking Type O on the second leg of the tour. He felt that Glenn was threatened of the competition of the two bands. I don't care if they rip on one another. In fact, I'd pay to see those two fight it out physically! That's my view..... Unholy ------------------------------ From: "Collin M. I think this is creative in the sense that it conveys a strong sense of power. No, Danzig isn't going to the North Pole to yell at god or whatever, but haven't you at one time wanted or even felt so powerful and angry at the same time that you wanted to metaphorically "stand at the top of the world and challenge the heavens"? I just wanted to stick up for possibly my favorite danzig lyrics. I find Danzig much less silly than Type O where sometimes Type o is just plain rediculous and for me, Danzig just sometimes over does it, but NOT in Left Hand Black. second, I was just wondering how some people feel about the fact that their tax dollars go towards my being able to read/contribute to the bible as well as access pornographic pictures on the internet if I so chose to do so. I know I'm not the only person on the list who is in this situation, just wondering if anybody felt really strongly about it. last, all my email was erased and I never got around to ordering that misfits video made for the bible last spring. could that guy please email me with where to send the money to? thanks kyl ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 19 Oct 95 9:24:55 EDT From: "\\A corpse" Subject: Re: Misfits Bible, #113 Okay fiends here is the news The Misfits Will be PLAYING at Coney Island High (A club on St. Marks Place in NYC) on Halloween. They will be jamming with a couple of bands and will be headlining. Also they will be afterwards signing autographs etc. The ticket price though is pretty steep $20 dollars per ticket (Halloween and New Years are always the most expensive nights of the year.) But according to the guy I talked to when I called Coney Island High once you pay you can go in and out of the club as many times as you like. Also there will be a costume ball. In terms of buying the tickets you have two choices either Go to Coney Island High, or Go to Bleeker Bobs in the west village, to purchase Tickets. ------------------------------ From: evan obrien Subject: baked milkshakes and fuity pebbles Date: Thu, 19 Oct 1995 12:15:34 -0400 (EDT) hello everyone, i just thought i would take a moment to share some "bible friendly" info. seeing that complaints of a slump abound. i got the "i hear ya" caroline cd sampler about two weeks ago at the great price of $4.(sorry, i am not selling it) & the cover photo is great. jerry and doyle look monstrous and ominous. the song (teenagers from mars) sounds great. the bass and drums are much more audible, and you can hear crisp cymbal crashing! i compared it to a version i got from stewart gallacher (he's got great audio stuff if wanna trade) and it is way better than the original. the rest of the cd is pretty mediocre, in my opinion. is anyone here going to be at the chiller convention? i will be there on sun the 29th. we should all meet somewhere. in case we don't i will be wering a white misfits shirt with the "fiend club" logo on the front. i hope to see some bible members there. i know evb and a couple of other members will be there. look for me if u plan to attend. i am loking forward to meeting jerry and doyle. i got an interview w/them from last year on WSOU (thanks evil don!) which gave me some clues as to what i should expect. they talked about the chiller convention last year and said they were giving away skull picks and autographed posters of jrry and doyle. i am really psyeched and expect it to be pretty cool. i am really only going for them, but figure the rest of the convention should be pretty cool. anyone going to be at the type o show besides evb? i won't be there (unless i get some ticket$) but i think i may go to coney island high later after the show. anyone going to be there? i feel like i am in that dumb scene from ferris bueller "anyone, anyone?" as for meeting danzig, i met glenn and john christ after their show in nyc at the roseland with Kyuss in dec 93 (the 19th?) glenn was pretty cool. i got both their autographs and briefly spoke with each. it's funny how music videos make glenn seem six feet tall (i know we have all listened to how he isn't exactly tall, so don't tell me it's a dead topic) but when i met him i was kinda surprised at his height. i was taller than him, and i am only five foot eight. anyway, it was neat to meet them and i thought i'd share it with ya. e ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 19 Oct 1995 13:52:02 -0400 (EDT) From: "C.G. I work in a record store and we just got in a new catalog that has 2 new shirts in it. One of the shirts is the Crimson Ghost dressed up as Santa Claus, with a bag of toys slung over his back (it's a bit lame - perhaps the cover of the unreleased X-mas show) The other is just the Crimson Ghost skull with the Misfits logo at the top of it, kinda overlapping it's forehead. I was a little more excited to see Type O but that was simply because I hadn't seen them before and I had seen Danzig 4 times already. I don't know who outsold who, or why this person is pissed at another. But seriously, I couldn't care less what Danzig thought or felt about Peter Steele, or vice versa. Do their opinions on such matters really make a difference. Both bands make great music and that's all that matters to me...IMHO. Actually I couldn't care less what either thinks about pretty much anything, the music is good, and that's why I am a fan of both of theirs. -Thomas ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 20 Oct 1995 11:17:19 -0500 (CDT) From: Spectre Subject: Lucifuge In response to Scott (102blah blah blah@compuserve.com)'s question regarding Lucifuge and the origin of the term, I actually found something in an old book a few years ago. I don't remember the name of the book, but it was basically about black magic, summoning demons, etc. You can take anything the book had to say about how to actually summon demons with a grain of salt, but as far as Lucifuge goes, apparently this is the name for Satan's "right hand man," so to speak...his assistant in doing his dark work. If there is another derivation, I'd like to know what it is...I heard somewhere that Glenn said he made up the term, but I don't know who told me that, and so they might have been full of shit. If I come across the book again, I'll post a more detailed description. I don't think there was all that much in the book on Lucifuge to begin with, just a short mention... I must say that I am really impressed with the work all of you have done to get a newsletter such as this off the ground - and Mark (i belive) has done a supurb job on the page - really cool I have been a misfits fan for most of my life, and until coming to the net, have not met too many "real" misfits fans in my days, usually just a bunch of poser skatepunks who have no true identity. There were some cool people around who liked the misfits (in my area) but they are all long gone by now. I grew up on the Misfits and i loved them, Samhain was OK, but I could not get into it as well (i pin this on the fact that during Samhain, glenn moved from punk to heavy metal) I only owned Samhain III and Initium, but i also listened to Danzig for a while, but this too did not bring the "power" that the Misfits brought. As time went on, i got board with Samhain and Danzig, every once in a while i will here a Danzig song i like, but... (get my drift?) Now because from what i tend to get when talking to is the idea that they have heard the Misfits, and they like them, but they dont own anything by them. And because the Misfits seed to be "dead" for years, are the only Glenn Danzig ban i particularly like, i am really not up on current events (i seem to hear that J.Only and Doyle took Glenn to court so they could be the Misfits again?) that could prove to be really cool, but i will have to hear it for real to be really excited about it (great concept, but im not sure about the lineup) If the Misfits did arise again, they would be the only real punk band (i.e. non neo) around besides the Cirkle Jerks who are no longer "punk" and the butthole surfers have not been punk for over five years (if they are still around) <-- if you would like to bitch and moan to me about the existence of punk rock (here or gone) please email me as collection wise goes, nothing too impressive (i was too stupid to take up some prime opportunities) my prize is a 7" Beware (printied on a lime green viynle) original or not, i do not know. If any of you guys live in Michigan, or are traveling that way soon, i can give you the names of a bunch of cool record stores that will have loads of Misfits shit for you to drool at and spend lots of $$$ at. I also know of some other record stores and record shows that pop around fiarly freequently, so if you want the info, lemme know. thats it for now (i seem to have strayyed on a tangent far enough) until l8r, n-joy flood (flood@sojourn.com) ------------------------------ From: LeSTaT Subject: cd Date: Sun, 22 Oct 1995 14:16:48 -0500 (CDT) ok... i was at the record store recently, and i came across a cd. i almost crapped when i saw that it was a Misfits Import of some kind. i was extremely happy.... even more happy when i saw that there were the two songs i've never heard before, Return of The Fly, and Last Caress. i knmow i coulda waited till Collec. 2 but i thought what the hell... i was wondering, would anyone know of this cd? it's called: Beware, The Complete Singles, 77 - 82. Anyways, I saw Danzig this summer with Marilyn Manson and Korn at the Universal ampitheatre in S. California. Me and my friends wereot lucky enough to get floor passes so I simply got into one of the aisles that lead down to the floor and stood there for about 5 minutes telling the people around me that, "if we all went at the same time, we would just knock the damned security guard over." well it worked and we walked over the security guard. So now that we were on the floor we went up to the front to get some action in the pit. I hopped on some guys back and my friend a boost so that i could go 'floating'... When I got towards the front of the crowd, right in front of the stage, Glenn was leaning over and I got up on mn top of the crowd and reached my right hand out and he shook my hand. Here's why. Type-O Negative will be playing at the Roseland in New York City. When Type-O comes out for their first encore, Jerry and Doyle will be with them. They will play "Halloween" and "Horror Business" with Peter Steele singing and either Chud or the Type-O Negative drummer on drums. Then they'll leave the stage so Type-O can finish the rest of the show. Later that same night, they will be appearing at Coney Island High School, a different club in New York City. Jerry and Doyle will be holding a Halloween party AFTER the Murphy's Law show. Murphy's Law tickets will be $20. The Misfits Halloween party is supposed to be FREE. All Jerry is getting from the club is 24 silver magic markers, 12 black markers and a box of rubber bands. At the door to the Halloween party, Jerry will be giving out 2,000 Static Age posters. Caroline had 40,000 posters printed up to advertise the album. The posters say that the album will be released on Halloween of 1995. When the album is finally released, this portion of the poster will be covered up. The 2,000 copies that Jerry will be giving out are the originals. The Halloween party will start between 1:30 and 2:00 in the morning, long after midnight when Murphy's Law leaves the stage. The schedule of the party is as follows: 1 Static Age - The entire album will be played. 2 Sardonica - Chud's former band will take the stage and play a short set. If Jerry thinks they sound good, he and Doyle will get onstage and play some Misfits songs with Sal B of Sardonica singing. 3 Compilation II - The entire album will be played and Jerry will critique it and explain each song. (See below) 4 Misfits set? - The band may then take the stage with Mike Graves of Lodi, NJ singing. Mike is their current first choice for a vocalist. 5 Electric Frankenstein - This band will play a short set. 6 Max's Kansas City - This album will be played in its entirety for perhaps the only time ever, due to its recent cancellation. So Halloween night will be the night the Misfits break their 12 year curse. They will take the stage and play some songs, but this will not count as their first show. This is just a little warmup before they get things going for good. CHILLER THEATER HORROR CONVENTION: --------------------------------- The band will be signing autographs and selling some of their new shirts, one of which is a glow-in-the-dark Crimson Ghost shirt that will "knock you on your ass". Another shirt was designed by Ed Repka of Megadeth fame. Their display will feature part of the dungeon they have created and will be located on the upstairs level in a room with the Basil Gogos and Doug Evil tables. Unfortunately, this means it will not be possible to get in for free like it was last time. So bring your $$$. THE BOX SET: ----------- The box set will come out in February of 1996. It will consist of 5 to 6 CD's in a coffin shaped box. Eerie Von is writing liner notes for this release. The Static Age album will be released in this set and may never be released otherwise. STATIC AGE: ---------- The Static Age album was mastered from the original mix using the original mixing tape from the studio. This tape had been sitting in Franche' Coma's safety deposit box for more than 17 years, untouched. For those who have a copy of the Static Age demo sessions, the only differences are these: o Jerry removed the slight microphone pop at the end of "Come Back" o Static noise was added as added to the end and beginning of the tape The original plan was for the CD to come in a specially designed black CD box with a Crimson Ghost cover and raised lettering. A toy company in the UK was hired to manufacture the case. Unfortunately Glenn found out about the plans and threatened to sue if they put out the Static Age album before his "Collection II". Originally Glenn claimed to have "lost" his Static Age master tapes, but as soon as he heard about the album, his tape suddenly surfaced and he was able to use it for some songs on the Collection II album. GLENN: ----- As far as Jerry is concerned, Glenn is trying to tone down the impact of the return of The Misfits. He did everything he could to cancel the Static Age album and in return we have to settle with his "Collection II" which Jerry does not like (see below). However, Jerry is agreeing to go along with Glenn's desires for the moment, so that Static Age and future Misfits releases will be able to come out without problems. Unfortunately, this remains to be seen. You never know what Glenn might do next. Jerry is still waiting for Glenn to give them the master tape for Earth A.D. as well as the proofread and corrected lyrics for all Misfits songs. COLLECTION II: ------------- Jerry played the whole Collection II album for me. He gave it an F rating. Apparently, he dislikes most of the remixes and says that some of the songs aren't even the Misfits. He is VERY pissed off about its release and he let Caroline know. However, as stated above, he is going to put up with it. Here is a summary of his comments: We Are 138 - Taken from Glenn's master tape which had been sitting in his basement for years. Therefore the quality isn't as good as the quality of the Static Age LP. Attitude - Same comments Cough/Cool - Glenn has added either another keyboard or a very fuzzy guitar to complement the other keyboard. He also may have recorded over the original drums. This was definitely not recorded this way by the band and is another example of Glenn's overdubbing. Last Caress - See "We Are 138" Return Of The Fly - See "We Are 138" Children In Heat - Probably more overdubbing over Bobby's original guitar. Rat Fink - Same as on the "Night Of The Living Dead" single. Horror Hotel - Same as on the "3 Hits From Hell" single. Halloween - Same as on the "Halloween" single. May be a slightly different mix. Halloween II - Same as on the "Halloween" single. Hate Breeders - Jerry says this is not the Misfits. The mix is different from the original. I did some research later with some of my demo tapes and determined that he was mistaken. To me this sounds like the demo version from the original Walk Among Us session. Braineaters - Although I couldn't detect any major differences, Jerry says that this song is not the same as the original. Since the band only recorded this song once, he says this is also not the Misfits. Again, this sounded like an alternate mix to me. Nike A Go Go - He says this is also not the Misfits. He says there's an error at the beginning of the song that they would not have made. Devils Whorehouse - A different mix than the "Walk Among Us" version. He doesn't like it. Mephisto Waltz - Jerry had never heard this song before. He suspects that it's really Samhain. He likes the song, but says it's not the Misfits. During the song there is a solo that sounds like a saxophone. We Bite - Very similar if not the same as the original. Queen Wasp - Jerry doesn't like the mix of this song. Doyle's "wasp" guitar is kept in the background and part of the beginning is cut. Demonomania - An alright mix similar to the original. Hellhound - Another okay mix. Bloodfeast - He likes this alternate mix. Personally, I look forward to the release of this album, although I must say "Mephisto Waltz" kind of let me down. It's definitely unlike any other Misfits song. Also, I think that Jerry was mistaken about some of the songs. He hasn't really listened to the old demo tapes in years and is used to the way the band plays them now, so this might explain his comments. MAX'S X-MAS: ----------- Jerry fears this album will never be released. Glenn is very disturbed about the overdubbing Jerry and Doyle did to the tracks. According to Jerry, the overdubs had to be made because the original bass and guitar didn't come through on the original recording. He and Doyle did the overdubs all in one take, so it was similar to a live recording. Unfortunately Glenn doesn't agree. (For some reason, it's okay for him to make overdubs and not them...) THE FIEND CLUB: -------------- The Fiend Club is back. Jerry has stickers, postcards, and other things for the Fiend Club to distribute. One problem they are encountering is the existence of a west coast company called Fiend Sportswear. Because of them, the Fiend Club is currently not legally allowed to produce any sort of apparel. Jerry is trying to work out a deal with them that will allow them have one shirt and one hat for sale at a time. Another problem they have is that they don't yet have the mailing list running. They are waiting to receive the master list from a friend and will then begin doing mass mailings. One plan for the future is the "Find A Fiend" promotion. They will be sending out postcards with the Fiend Club address on them and members of the Fiend Club must return these postcards with the name and address of another fan who is not in the Fiend Club. This way the fan club can eventually hope to reach all fiends worldwide and get stuff out to everyone independently. This part of the conversation was especially interesting for me because he kept calling me the president of the Fiend Club and said, "No one else has done more than you have. You're a walking encyclopedia and you know more about me than I do. We're gonna let you run it..." Yes... it was pretty exciting. I don't know how much of it will actually come true, but at least for one night I can say I replaced Glenn Danzig as the president of the Fiend Club. FUTURE PLANS: ------------ Mad Marc Rude, who did the artwork for Earth AD, is designing album cover artwork that is currently referred to as "Earth AD 2". Also, Jerry's trying to contact Pushead to do more artwork for them. Glenn has recently been putting out Misfits shirts with Pushead artwork through Brockum, and Jerry would like Pushead to design better stuff for them. Jerry will also be appearing in an upcoming issue of Maximum Rock n Roll explaining the whole Misfits situation. THE SINGER: ---------- The part everyone's been waiting for. Unfortunately, it won't be Dave Vanian. After six months, it has finally been decided. Dave wouldn't agree to anything Jerry offerred, and contrary to rumors, he never even came out to rehearse with them. Jerry was diappointed with the outcome, but is still looking for someone who's even better. Mike Graves, formerly known as Mike Emmanuel, may or may not end up getting the job. He can sing the songs and he has the look, but Jerry is still keeping his eyes open. He even made a joke about having Eerie Von join the band as bassist so that Jerry could do the vocals. So we'll see. On Sunday I talked to Bobby for about 2 hours. Most of our talk didn't really have a whole lot to do with The Misfits although I did learn that a guy named Robbie Alter played guitar on songs from the MSP sessions. Also Bobby will be apearing at the Chiller Theater convention all day Saturday at Big Sex Outfitters table selling Undead stuff. That's all for now. I was wondering what mixes exactly would be used for the alt. EAD and WAU songs. Personally, I think Glenn can do whatever he wants w/the stuff since he wrote it, but I admit I feel a bit disappointed if the completely-original stuff doesn't come out on cd. I found it most interesting that he didn't even think some of these songs were the Misfits!...verrrrry interesting...anyway, I won't die if there is one fewer live Misfits show in the world, but this "Blue Christmas" business sounds too good to miss. I hope they come to some kind of agreement. Congratulations as Glenn's successor! Anyway: Doug said: is "The Other Side" a version of the Doors song?.....I seriously, seriously doubt it. I am not aiming this comment at you but Glenn does not copy JM as much as some people think. On maybe 5 or 6 songs Glenn sounds like him, but I will argue to my dying day that Glenn is far better singer and songwriter. Please don't anyone start a 20-Bible-long argument because of this... Dave V. said: "Is "Little Whip" the new version of "Livin' Doll" ? man, you took the words right out of my brain. As soon as saw "Little Whip" in a magazine (around last July) I got excited that maybe Glenn just renamed 'Livin' Doll" and was gonna release it. Ever since the days before How the Gods Kill I've wanted to hear "Livin' Doll". Don't ask why, but I always imagined it as a Killer Wolfish-type blues song. I think though, that "Whip" is more sexual, whereas a living doll is just a way of describing a pretty girl ( maybe it is more of a love song...) I actually wonder if "The Other Side" is something like "Long Way..." Let me stress, though, that in each of the magazines that I found these (and the others) unreleased songs, it was made clear that THESE SONGS WERE ACTUALLY RECORDED. So, even if they did evolve into something else, someone (Glenn or Rick Rubin?) has these originals. For "White Devil Rise", Glenn said he was unhappy with how it sounded. This, plus the defection of Chuck (remember, he would have been the drummer on all of these unreleased tracks), and Eerie and John may mean that Glenn will probably completely rerecord it, if it is indeed to be on "danzig 5". What else...oh yeah... Elvis: Glenn is of course "The Evil Elvis" "Trouble" was originally the King's songs, written by Jerry Leiber and Mike Stoller (who also wrote several other Elvs songs, including "Hound Dog" Danzig did "trouble" live for years (Glenn even siad that samhain did it) and finally put it on Thrall. I think he said that they recorded it for every album before the Thrall version actually came out. Elvis' version is on the "King Creole" movie Soundtrack. (You'll notice that the chorus of "heart of the Devil" is drawn from "Trouble" "Lucifuge" may be some devil's right hand man or whatever somone said, but long before any of these freak-books were written it was a form of the Latin verb LUCIFUGERE. Mark's answer (as usual) was on-the-money. Glenn never said he made it up; other people/magazines said he said this, and often they completely misquoted the latin meaning he gave them. He told my friends Mike and Brad how this has occurred when they met him in Toronto...unfortunately my ride could'nt stick around after that show, so I waited another two years before meeting him (in detroit). I've got some stories, but those I'll save for later.... Before I go, Mark, what did you think of my alt. lyrics for Die die? No one has yet posted ideas about the end of Tired of Being Alive and the 2nd verse of Kiss of Steel. Does anyone know these???? The album has a sepia brown colored Crimson Ghost on the cover, taken from the original Fiend Club 8 x 10" Crimson Ghost from the late 70's. This is very different from the Crimson Ghost we're all used to because it has eyeballs and other features. The picture is similar to the Max's Kansas City flyer with the Crimson Ghost with his arms folded. The back features a different green colored picture of the Crimson Ghost. The Misfits logo will not be on the cover anywhere. It will be on an orange sticker on the wrapping. Jerry isn't sure why Caroline chose to do it this way. Caroline has already pressed 100,000 copies of the CD, complete with the lyrics to all 20 songs. Unfortunately, as is standard, Glenn is not pleased. He first decided he didn't want the album released and then decided it could be released if the artwork was changed. He wants to use the Santa Claus/Crimson Ghost painting done by Basil Gogos, but they refused because they want that picture for the Max's X-mas album. So, this means that the artwork might change after the first 100,000 copies are sold, IF Glenn comes up with better artwork. So we'll see. To answer some recent questions, the Max's X-mas album was supposed to come out on Christmas of this year. It is a 12 song live recording of the band performing a lot of old songs. Jerry often refers to it as Christmas of 1980 although I was originally led to believe the show was from 1978. Unfortunately, Jerry and Doyle did some overdubs that Glenn doesn't approve of, and the album was cancelled for now. And... more news about the Type-O Negative show. Jerry called me again this morning at 1 am after practicing with Type-O. They have decided to go with Astro Zombies, 20 Eyes, and Vampira for the encores. And... interesting news here - they will be doing 2 shows with them: 10/30/95 - The Chance Poughkeepsie, NY 10/31/95 - Roseland New York, NY so that's 2 chances to see the Misfits playing with Type-O. The guitarist will be singing and Peter will be doing backup. Peter's voice didn't work well enough on lead with Misfits tunes. So go if you can, it should be interesting. For those of you who will be going to the Halloween Party, you might want to bring Initium to be autographed. Lyle Preslar will probably be there too and Jerry is trying to get Type-O to swing by for a few more songs. Things are looking interesting. It's too bad EVB won't be there. Jerry hopes to see you all there... so if you can do it, do it.
