It's a label. The Misfits don't consider themselves a punk band, and I don't think Jerry ever did. If they play or sound like punk to you, that's fine, but what they choose to play (which will never be metal) is up to them. If you consider Earth AD metal, then I guess you're out of luck, but I guess I'm confused by your answer below. > > Would you consider "Cough/Cool" "Come Back" > > "American Nightmare" "20 Eyes" and "Green Hell" all the same type of > > music? Lowe was unfair. We all make asumptions. And even if Michale is not trying to be Glenn, Jerry and Doyle chose him because he sings, looks, and acts like him. To Crimson Ghost: Are you illiterate or do you just enjoy being condescending? My point is simple: The New Misfits are a tribute band. End of point. I don't give a shit how Glenn fucking Danzig sees it either. Has he been to see them? No. Have I? Yes. I will go to see them again because I enjoy tribute bands, but they should not be pretending to be The Misfits. About the 30 better bands: It's not that you like other bands besides the Misfits that pisses me off. Fuck, if anyone out there only listened to the Misfits they would be missing quite a bit of good music. But it's the way you stated yourself: You don't really like the Misfits, you're only here to defend your friend Jerry, we're all a bunch of pathetic losers for really liking this band. The point is you belittle others on this list in every issue. I'm only on this list for another week (maybe I'll be back in October) so I guess it's stupid for me to be arguing with you. But I think I've been arguing a pretty important point and then you refer to me as "another kid who wants to argue with you." I've been on this list for about six months and I never argued with anyone until something I felt strongly about came up. You really need an attitude adjustment. I've been a bit out of it due to school and numerous other reasons... If you don't care to hear me ramble, then please scroll on...I don't mean to bore anyone out there... Some out there may know me... If not, I'm the guy who maintains the Graphical Discography...which, incidentally is finally working 100% and the ONLY things I need now are decent scans of the Evilive 7" 3 pack... http://www.prairienet.org/~anthrax/m-gdisc.htm My trading list is also available on-line to anyone who cares... follow the 'audio' link at the bottom of that page, or just go to /~anthrax and follow the links... I wouldn't mind someone who could get me a copy of any of the 'secret' shows in late October '95... I have *tons* of stuff for trade...and some low gen/high quality MiSFiTS stuff... how often does one see a MiSFiTS show (not from a bootleg disc) that can be traced back to the taper and has a generation? ;) A word of warning tho, if you are not MATURE enough to realize that some people have wide musical tastes and its not neccessary to vent your opinoin on any specific band you may not like or tolerate, then DON'T go looking at my list... I'm not trying to flame-bait anyone, or point any fingers, but there has been enough problems on this list in the past... Another thing... Because of my location at school (Iowa City), I was unable to get ANY of the Collection II vinyls...in fact I had a rough time even getting the CD... and, frankly, it makes me *SICK* that some people out there have multiple copies of the Collection II vinyl... sure, I can understand some people wanting to get all the colors and stuff, but I just saw some lists that have multiple colors of this thing... well, maybe you got extra to help out people like me who were not able to get it? Maybe not. If anyone is kind and wants to somehow lead me to *any* colored (ie non black) vinyl of this thing I'd be forever grateful... I've helped many a person out on here with stuff, and some have been generous to me as well... kinda like a good karma / bad karma kinda thing, if that makes sense... After scanning over the collectors page on the www page, I've confirmed that nobody has a tape compiled of the various songs that have been played or collected from the Max's Kansas City 12/28/78 show... I don't know if this will work or not, but I think its a decent idea, as this is one of the earliest known Misfits recordings, and several of these tracks have never again surfaced with Glenn singing them live... What I would like to do is hunt down people (or the actual radio stations themselves) with MASTER/CLEAN copies of the songs, then compile all of them *digitally* onto a DAT tape to preserve the quality. From this I would then offer up a free copy to anyone on the list who wanted one... True, the show would be complete, but 8 out of 12 songs isn't too bad... If you don't care about this, then scroll on, and I'm sorry to have wasted your time... Ok, the original Max's Kansas City 12/28/78 tape had 12 tracks... Bullet | Where Eagles Dare | Who Killed Marilyn? | Horror Business Static Age | TV Casualty | Hollywood Babylon | Teenagers From Mars Children In Heat | Attitude | Blue Christmas | We Are 138 During the WSOU FM 4/13/95 radio show, Jerry played the following cuts: 1.Static Age (live) | 2.Horror Business (live) | 3.Hollywood Babylon (live) 4.Where Eagles Dare (live) During the WCWP FM 4/20/95 radio show, Jerry played the following cuts: x.Horror Business (live) | x.Hollywood Babylon (live) 5.Teenagers From Mars (live) During the WFMU FM 4/20/95 radio show, Jerry played the following cuts: x.Teenagers From Mars (live) | 6.Children In Heat (live) x.Static Age (live) | 7.TV Casualty (live) On the FlipSide compilation has: 8.Attitude (live) I need some help from 'fiends out there... Please email me and help me hunt down people who taped these things...or lead me to the actual radio station if its in your area or if you have knowledge of it... I have copies of 2 out of the 3 radio shows where Jerry played live tracks, but one is extremely staticy and the other isn't a master copy (ie taped directly off the radio) and my goal is to keep the quality consistent throughout the tape... Please refer to the Discography part on the www page for more info and locations on the radio interviews... All tapes 'lent' to me will be handled with great care and will be returned promptly as soon as the project is done, or as soon as they are needed back... I've traded tapes for years, and my name is good, just ask around... Plus, I'm the guy who runs the Graphical Discog, so its somewhat guaranteed that I won't run off with whatever people send me... Does this sound like a decent idea or no? Maybe I'm just going crazy... On another note, I'll be going to the Chicago show... Any other fiends out there going and want to attempt to meet somewhere? What are some good strategies for bringing stuff to the show to get signed, but not destroyed during the show? Thats it... if you have anything relevant, please EMAIL ME as sometimes some parts of issues can slip by me... Oh, and a final, barely MiSFiTS releated thing... I'll be in London, England from June 13-18 this summer, and I'll be very close to Earl's Court; and then after that I'll be in Paris, near Sorbonne and the Latin Quarter and I believe its in the Place d'Italie. Can anyone (UK/Euro people speak up!) point me to some highlights of this area: concert sites, music shops, pubs, castles, dungeons, etc of note? If so, please EMAIL ME and I'll be eternally in thanks... death comes ripping, - Carl (csylvest@blue.weeg.uiowa.edu / http://www.prairienet.org/~anthrax) ------------------------------ From: MR JOSEPH F MARINO Date: Mon, 20 May 1996 20:57:31, -0500 Subject: Lighten up... Hey, I am a new head to the Bible. I just thought I'd throw my 2 cents in and say what is everyone's problem? Talking about the Misfits can't do this and they can't do that and they must do this. Why categorize or set limits. The Misfits are the Misfits and I think they are too diverse to ever be put into one category. There is a lot of hatred here and I don't get it. You all love the band right? I mean who cares if they got a new singer? Glenn probably had other things to take care of. I've been listening to the Misfits for a long time and I was thrilled that at least some of 'em would carry on. I'd rather have something than nothing. Anyway no one probably cares what I have to say and I really don't give a shit. I had something to say and I said it. So while some people continue to trash this person or that person to swell up their own ego, I'm just gonna step back, crank up Static Age and just ENJOY J. ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 20 May 96 19:10:50 MDT From: "Cadet Kyle J. I've posted this many times, I think I can speak with good authority on this as I've logged more hours than any of you by listening to them practice everyday for two years. It's *NOT* metal, It doesn't sound like KTC. It sounds just like the Misfits. They play a little better these days, but all in all it's just a heavier feel to the music. NOT metalized at all! >its only metalizing if they start playing metal.... there is nothing >wrong with them wanting to play metal... they should just start something >from scratch, and not use the name of a punk band to do it. Since when is the Misfits a punk band?? They did one album of true Punk Stuff (Static Age) then transformed into some sorta goth-rock type thing (WAU), then became a total Goth-horror-hardcore outfit (EAD, The least listenable stuff). I really think that before you form anymore opinions you should just go to a show. Look at Brett Fama! He went to that show with an open mind and look at what happened to him! He's gotta be the biggest Danzig fan I know (next to EVB) and he had a great time. Why did he have a great time?? Because he went to the show without any pre-concieved notions about what it was gonna sound like. Evil Don, >crimson ghost: who do you consider to be a good songwritter. just curious. I don't know if I want to touch this question. but I'll attempt it. First off realize that I NEVER called Glenzig a bad songwriter. I called him a mediocre songwriter. Mediocre, meaning he was OK, not bad, but not god's gift to music. He has his moments, every now and then he comes up with something cool. I thought he approached that coolness with "Can't Speak" it's a great tune. Glenn's lyrics cannot and will not ever stand by themselves, with Glenn it's the interaction of the music with the lyrics. nothing wrong with that mind you. There are just other people in the business that do it much better than him, and I'm not speaking of just the HardRock/punk/alterno world either. My musical tastes are quite eclectic. If I have to come up with a few incredible songsmiths I'd have to say: Peter Shelley (Buzzcocks), Carol King, Roger Waters, oh and of course Brian Wilson. These people write lyrics that could be read like fucking poetry! and they do it consistantly, they also take those lyrics and mate them with music(that they've also written) and create something special. I think where I might be confusing you is with the difference between Lyrisist and Songwriter. Glenn's pretty good at putting some lyrics to music, but as a lyrisist he loses something. To be truly awe-inspiring you must be able to do both duties well. So anyway, don't get me wrong he's pretty damn good at what he does, I like it. But I cannot see how anyone can elevate him past his talent level. I've heard people refer to him as the most talented individual to ever record a record. These people really need to get out more. I'm not aiming this at you Don, you asked a simple question, you didn't express an opinion on the matter so don't take my comments the wrong way. If you haven't sent in your birthday and you want to be in the calendar, get off your lazy ass, get to a computer and send it in before the end of this week. Everyone who has sent me their b-day has been sent off to Pat for the calendar. SO YOU DEADBEATS THAT HAVE BEEN WAITING TILL THE LAST MINUTE AS USUAL BETTER GET MOVING OR YOU'RE ***NOT*** GOING TO BE IN THE CALENDAR. Got it, Good. To the lighter side, well i must say i'm not sorry for the bit from Mondays bible about the Glenn Bashing. All i see is are a bunch of fiends still feeling the effects from the recent New Misfits shows they saw. I will probably go to see the show, but i'm not looking for a replacement of the ORIGINAL MISFITS. I'm happy to have all my records, and collectables. I like to listen to the songs and played some of the tapes to death. Shit you can't even read the words on my first tape of WAU. My everyday keychain is a Legacy of Brutality housed in plastic. Plus, i don't play any off my original 7"s or color vinyl so there!?! But this is my opinion which i usually don't find the need to plast everyone with what i like and what i do. So, i hope that the flames and bashing is over for now. I can only say that for so many people who preach to be great Misfits fans, it is so amazing to me that you can sit back and bash the man who created the songs you suposedly love in the first place. I really think that before >you form anymore opinions you >should just go to a show. CG: i think the dude was talking about actual musical aesthetics, not ideologies or attitude that would characterize a punk band. you know, if you played short, somewhat fast songs with plenty of power and barre chording, you were a punk band. i guess the Ramones style would be the prototype. i guess you could also be really fucked up sounding and be called punk as well, but that doesn't apply here anyway, so fuck it. i don't think you can categorize a band by their lyrics - type of music is usually the basis for labelling a band. i don't think that you can get away from saying that the misfits played punk rock styled rocknroll (except EAD - that was shit). and as far as i know, hardcore is still considered a part of punk. the misfits' sound only became faster. and why does everyone insist on saying they were goth or goth-rock or whatever? no way. crap like Bauhaus is goth. simply using horror/ B movie type lyrics doesn't make a goth band. the music's gotta be all faggy sounding and eerie sounding to make it goth - like those wussies Bauhaus. the misfits pretty much played fast and catchy rocknroll punk (except for the shitty ass Earth A.D.). samhain's kinda goth i guess. maybe that Halloween II is kinda goth, but that was just some bullshit song that was an exception to what the misfits usually did. so there. james ps- pete shelley a "great" songwriter? no way, that british wanker! ha ha. and i saw a picture of the new misfits in Details (fuck off, i was just checking out the pictures of the chicks.) and the they looked even dumber than they did in 1983. do people actually think they look cool with those stupid ass costumes and goofy hair? i guess i can't blame the metalheads for liking that kinda thing. ------------------------------ Date: Wed May 22 06:38:10 1996 From: Haskin Douglas CDT Subject: Misfits tribute album? Doug ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 22 May 1996 12:33:42 -0400 From: Brent Christopher Eyestone Subject: 600 Tour Managers... Hi - Well, leave it to a bunch of people who don't know the ins and outs of the music *BUSINESS* to tell a band what they should or shouldn't do!!! To all of the people who think the MIsfits are being foolish or cheating the punk scene/fans/public by touring with Anthrax: How many tours have YOU done?? Who did YOU tour with?? Oh, I'm sorry, I forgot...you're just a person behind a keyboard and a monitor who 1.) Has no insight on what it takes to run a successful tour and 2.) Has no gauge of the relationship between the members of the Misfits and the members of Anthrax. Well, speaking as someone who's BEEN THERE, I'm going to attempt to try to explain some of the possible reasons for this "unholy" union rather than get up on a pedestal and tell you how moronic you are or whatever. Let's say you're in a successful band who's about to start a six week tour in a couple of months. Furthermore, let's say that you are not on a major label and therefore have the option of handpicking the band that will open up for you over these six weeks. Who do you pick? Do you pick some band that maybe "sounds" like you? Do you pick a band that would draw a huge crowd without you? Do you help out a friend's band that's just getting started? What do you do? Well, almost eight times out of ten, you are going to pick a band that 1.) You will GET ALONG WITH FOR SIX WEEKS and 2.) can be relied upon to show up and play every night. Stop reading for a second and think about about how long SIX WEEKS is. That's a month and a half away from friends, family, and "home." Would you rather spend that six weeks with total strangers (and run the risk of fights and descention), or would you rather tour with people you've known for years? DUH - you pick the reliable band you've known for years. Personally, I have been involved in both scenarios - touring with strangers and touring with old friends. I've been both lucky and cursed with strangers, but everything went over smoothly when touring with friends. And these were mini-tours... Can you imagine being stuck with a bunch of pure assholes for six weeks? Hell, just watch MTV's "The Real World" a couple of times (especially the one with that bitchy black girl) and you MIGHT get a small peek into what sort of tension can mount over that long period of time. So are you guys beginning to understand this decision on the part of the Misfits yet? Let me ask you a question: who do YOU propose they tour with??? In case you need a real life example: this summer we will be touring with a band called Chaos vs. Cosmos opening up for us on every stop. We're pretty much an emo-core/"punk" band while CvC is a murder-core band in the vein of bands like Deadguy, etc. Our styles are rather different, yet the tour is going to go off without a hitch because we respect each other and get along like ham and burger (huh?). Speaking of Deadguy, was it "wrong" for them to tour with Doc Hopper (pop-punk)?? And for those of you who STILL insist that this MIsfits/Anthrax tour doesn't "fit," look at it this way: TWO BANDS WHO INFLUENCED A LOT OF PEOPLE/BANDS IN THE 80'S JUST TRYING TO MAKE A COMEBACK. There, I think that's all I can say on this issue. Thanks for reading. - Brent/SoH http://home.aol.com/Hunnysmack ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 22 May 1996 06:26:00 -0400 (EDT) From: Jim Subject: Re: Misfits Bible, #180 After reading the Bible for a couple of months, I have to say that I feel as if I am reading posts to the Greatful Dead mailing list given the level of fanatacism that some of the members write. It is as if some of you have no lives besides being a fan of the Misfits. Please don't get me wrong. I think the Misfits were an awesome band, and the reincarnation of the band is a good thing. But the daily influx of setlists and comparisons to Glenn's voice (whether the lead singer is more 80's Glenn of 90's Glenn) is meaningless drivel. I can't ever go to a hardcore or punk show like a historian picking apart the performance before it even begins.... If half of you used your creative energies to write your own songs and lineup your own bands, there would be a lot more macabre bands influenced by the Misfits out there instead of this Offspring/Silverchair crap. Another thing... why do you take the Misfits' lyrics so seriously. Anybody with a couple college English courses can tell that most of the music was written with dark tounge in cheek and nothing more. Nothing to apply 90% of your mental energy to. In light of my caustic comments I have to admit my own fanatic bit of weakness. The only live music I can count on here in Fort Lauderdale is the occaisonal show by local heroes Marilyn Manson. One more idea that just popped into my head is a cool tour idea. 2 headliners The Misfits and the Undead. Here's what I know about SLim Whitman. He was HUGE in Europe in the late 50's / early 60's - as big as Elvis (not that Costello guy). You're probably too young to remember this, but Elvis never played Europe and Slim never played the U.S. of A.. Why? Because their manager; that's right manager (in the singular) didn't want one stepping on the others toes commercially. Tom Parker represented both of the superstars, and for some reason thought that it would dilute his earnings if his two acts were to cross paths. Slim Whitman was never even heard of in the U.S., until K-TEL released his greatest hits package in the early 80's. Now Slim tours Europe on a regular basis, but his following has dwindled. seems his old fans don't like the way he's "metallized" his old songs. ------------------------------ From: Bile666@aol.com Date: Thu, 23 May 1996 09:53:35 -0400 Subject: Manimals I got "Blood Is The Harvest" in the mail this week and I must agree with others that it is a very cool album. The music is good and I like the whole image of the band. I'd seen it in a record store near me before I heard about them on the Bible and was a little turned off because of their Kiss-type look. But once I heard about them from Mark, I decided to give them a try and I'm glad I did. Larry the Wolf sounds a bit like Paul Stanley (to my ear) in the vocal area. I was also happy to see that the album sleeve not only contained photos of the band but also the lyrics to all the songs. After buying reprints of the different Misfits records that didn't have any pictures let alone lyrics, it was a nice surprise. In the pictures, the band wore those furry ski boots that look like they came off the Abominable Snowman. Hopefully sometime in the future they'll be able to open for the Misfits somewhere, not just Larry joining them onstage for a song or two. I'd like to see their whole set. Larry also sent me a packet of old flyers with photos from old horror films like "The Wolfman" and "The Tower of London". He also sent me photocopies of pictures from the 5/12 Cleveland show. Anyway, it's a very cool album and they are an equally cool band. Before I go, I'd just like to say that although I think Anthrax is horrible nowadays, there was a time when they were a really great band. "Among the Living" and "State of Euphoria" are still fine albums. Although they seem to be taking themselves very seriously these days, I'm glad to see that they'll be playing with the Misfits ... - BILE666. ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 23 May 1996 01:58:36 -0400 (EDT) From: Brett Fama Subject: whoops...sorry > From: Bad Ninja > Subject: Fama's Bible > > Brett, could you please elaborate on your last bible...oops, I mean post ? yeah, sorry about that, all of you. actually that "post" was originally sent for *Mark's* personal e-mail, so I wasn't thinking about taking up Bible-space at all. First > off realize that I NEVER called Glenzig a bad songwriter. I called him a > mediocre songwriter. Mediocre, meaning he was OK, not bad, but not god's hmm, CG, I'm a bit confused: you say Glenn's good at matching words to a song, making him (somehow) a "mediocre songwriter." But even as you distinguish between the talent of songwriting (words + song) and the talent of poetry (just words), you seem to judge Glenn by the latter, when writing "words-only" was never his intention. Sure, some of his lyrics will sound stupid if you just open the lyric-book and read them. Try sitting down (without the music playing in the background) and reading aloud "Twist of Cain oh, yeah, drives my brain oh" and you'll see what I mean. But the lyrics *to the song* are great nonethelesss. And I seriously doubt Glenn ever intended for the words to be read without the music. Another example: when I was in grade 9 I wrote some stupid poem in English class, and the teacher liked it. Later I tried writing a few songs, but I just couldn't do it without music (which I can't write) so the words I had were no good (because I had written them intending for them to be complemented with music). I found that every time I tried to write a lyrics, they'd come out fitting the tune of some Danzig song. I may have been somewhat-okay writing poems, but would any band want to play my songs? > If I have to come up with a few incredible songsmiths I'd have to say: (I'll dispense with a rerun of your list) so are they good songwriters, or good poets? (or both?) Actually, I do think there are some Danzig lyrics that could stand on their own without the music; the first that comes to mind is "Snakes of Christ." Certainly it wouldn't be the best poem ever (but you're never gonna find me a better song this side of Lucifuge...although I have no doubt you'll disagree with me there). well CG, I'm interested to see what you have to say...this is the first time I've posted to you in quite a while (I was gonna blast you for the way you blasted EVB, but then you sorta blasted yourself first, so I figured, why beat a dead horse?). > From: TES777 > well this is the last call for the birthdays. Hey All~ I had the pleasure of seeing Eerie Von's new band, BIGHOUSE, last Friday evening. This was my second time seeing them perform and this time I even caught a few song titles (I think :) ). My favorites so far are "Big Daddy" and something called, I think, "Rock and Roll". I even went out the next day and bought a Willie Dixon cd after hearing their version of one of the songs. Everybody...THESE THREE GUYS KICK SOME SERIOUS BUTT!!! If you have the chance, go see them next time they play, I guarantee you won't be disapointed! The sound is very heavy and bluesy, almost Allman Brothers like at times. They even did a cover of "I'm the One"! I really cannot wait 'till they put out an album of this stuff, so I can play it constantly (hint, hint) ha ha ha! When they do, they're gonna be huge..go see 'em now while you can see them in a club! (Do you think I;d drive 5 hours one way if they sucked??...no way man, these guys are really good!! I also got to meet alot of cool people there. Liz was on hand with a friend (very cool horses guys!) and a few others that were there last time also that I missed before. Also, got to see some people that I had met last time. Really great night! DON'T FORGET!! Eerie's new album with Mike Morantz "UNEASY LISTENING" is coming out, I think, JULY 2!! So, cool new stuff! If you did;nt hear it on the hotline awhile ago...well, you missed out :P..just kidding...it's really cool...listen to it with the lights out. ALso, the cover art is really cool. So don't forget :) (or you'll be forced to hear more incessant babbling from moi on how great it is...hahahaha!) Last, but certainly not least....Mary and Eerie you are the coolest! For those of you who aren't looking at a calender, it's a Tuesday not a Friday. Oh well, better to release it on the 13th if you can't do it on Friday the 13th. As well, if there are any SLAYER fans on the bible, their new album "Undisputed Attitude" will be released on May 28th/96. This album features brand new songs written by slayer (about 4 of them), but the remaining ten songs are cover tunes of their favorite "punk" bands like Minor Threat, etc. Unfortunately, there are no Misfits covers...they didn't want to bother Glenn (probably, just didn't want to go through a lot of bullshit). For those interested, the american recordings homepage has a whole page concerning the new slayer release and there's a Type O Negative page out there, I don't know the address, but use the "net search" and you'll probably find it. And last, I just got the new Metallica single "Until It Sleeps" yesterday. I'm hurt, one of the best bands out there has gone soft. Don't get me wrong, the song is good, but I was severly hoping that there new album "Load", (June 4/96) would be a return to the style of "Master of Puppets" or "Ride the Lightening", but alas it's looking to be like Metallica's "Black" album. This is terrible. First, Iron Maiden, then Megadeth, then Anthrax, now Metallica. Aside from Slayer (who still thrash), the greats are dying. I was a bit thrown when I first heard that, but who cares.. sure Anthrax is basically a cheesey washed out heavy metal band, but the 'fits have the right to tour with whoever they want too - and I'm sure Anthrax of all bands isn't going to draw a cheesey crowd of 11 year olds that doesn't know whats going on.. because Anthrax just isn't big and popular, because esentially heavy metal is dead. It's 1996, not '86. :) With or without Glenn I'd love to see the Misfits - Hell, Deep Purple didn't have the same lineup for any of their albums and they were still Deep Purple. Even if Glenn WAS an integral part of the band, if Glenn doesn't want anything to do with it then what can you do? Everyone would love to see Glenn back, but you can't MAKE him like Jerry or make Jerry like him. Maybe when they're both about 70 they'll get over this nonsense and everyone will be friends again. I'd love to see the Undead too, them being one of my favorite bands.. so Bobby, if you ever become a rock star and start playing stadiums, remmeber to get out somewhere in Michigan.. we think you're Fucking GREAT! :) Well at least myself and my friends do. :) Matt A.K.A Voodoo Child Weaker Youth v_child on the IRC matt138@godzilla.novasys.com 'fuckin people that I see always fuckin' starin at me' -The Undead ------------------------------ From: Bile666@aol.com Date: Sun, 26 May 1996 17:02:04 -0400 Subject: 6/27 I was at the Gwar show last night at the Stone Pony (which was a blast) and they announced that The Misfits and Anthrax will be playing at the Asbury Park Convention Hall on June 27th. This is weird because it was announced on the Bible that on that same night they're supposed to be playing at the Roselands. They can't be in two places at one so one of them has to be right. I called Ticketmaster to find out when tickets go on sale and they said either the 30th or the 31st (next week) and said that it was a Cannibal Corpse/Misfits show. There was no mention of Anthrax. So I have no idea what's going on. Either way, if they're at the Roselands or Asbury Park (hopefully the Roselands since it's a much nicer place), I'll be seeing them on the 27th. Also, I have a lead on a video of the Stone Pony show two weeks ago. The guy (who was behind me filming the Gwar show) said he had the whole show on tape (almost 2 hours of footage). So I'll let you all know if I get a hold of it. It was a great show. They played "Theme for a Jackal", which they apparently don't play everywhere. I asked him if he had the Cleveland show which sounded like a blast, what with Larry from the Manimals joining the stage, but he said he didn't have it. What the fuck is up? I hope y'all are just dandy. OK, now for the goods. I watched a really shitty movie last night, "Empire Records." It was a wannabe John Hughes movie. About the only redeeming quality was Steven Tyler's beautiful love spawn, Liv. Also, at the end, the kids are talking about cool bands and one of the guys starts talking about the Misfits. Then this other shithead says, "Yeah, but the Misfits have nothin' on Primus," or something, then, "Out with the old, in with new." Someone should blacklist his dumbass from ever acting, or the writer or whoever. Primus is alright, and they may be musically more skilled, and they are slightly amusing, but novelty wears off. I'd much rather listen to the testosterone-pumping aggro hell-noise of the Misfits. The Misfits have heart, they have passion!!! "Grandad's Little Diddy" just kinda gets old. Granted, the 'Fits have zombies and vampires and Martians, but "Wynona's Big Brown Beaver"? C'mon... (If ya dig the Primus fellas, please don't flame me, it's really not worth the wasted space, is it?) In other news, here's an observation my non-Fiend roommate made. He, who doesn't really listen top the 'Fits, unless subjected to them by me, said: "I dunno, the Misfits aren't the Misfits without Danzig." Take that as you will. Also, on that note, to the guy who said he saw the new Misfits in the new DETAILS magazine: What the fuck page? And yet another question for those sages more knowledgable than I: Danzig is not really Glenn's real last name, right? It's something with an "A," right? So where'd he get the name Danzig? All you guys that got to see Gwar are a lucky bunch of motherfuckers. :) I've had the misfortune of missing Gwar last year and this year, though I thought TTE was a sucky album, I kind of had my heart set on seeing them on the Ragnarok tour.. anyone notice that this one didn't get hyped ast all as much as the last one, possibly because of the strong anti-religion/govt. message that was absent in TTE? Benito - I agree about Primus.. of course Les Claypool is talented, but they just don't have what the misfits have.. there's not even a comparison. Especially not on their last few albums.. the only Primus discs that I purchased and really enjoy are Suck on This and Frizzle Fry. Primus does get the prize for being the OTHER band that i've seen release stuff on Caroline. :) As for your roomates comment aboutit not being the Misfits without Glenn, I'd like to see Glenn back, it's not gonna happen. Might as well accept Michale as the current singer of the Misfits, rather then Glenns replacement, even though Glenn WAS the best, he obviously doesn't give a rip, he just wants the whole thing in the past.. Michale's pretty courageous puttin himself up for all of this critiscism if ya ask me.. fiends are a rowdy bunch. :) D-Rod - Maybe you overreacted a little to that guys message about us all being fanatics, but I agree with you - Hell, this list is to talk about The fucking Misfits and related bands.. if it bugs him so much to see people talking about how they love the fits, he's obviously in the wrong place. :) And in a misfits related act of sweetness, I was out a few weeks back at Taco Bell eating with my friends, sporting my happenin' new glow in the dark misfits T (I can't find one with just the Crimson Ghost, dammit!) when I saw a little girl clutching her mother. I looked over and her mom said "Your shirt is scary to her." - FUCK YEAH! Btw, anyone actually purchasing those new Captain harlock shirts? I've been kickin around the idea, but considering i've never read Captain Harlock I'd feel kinda guilty.. Then again I've read plenty of Hate, Eightball, Crap and Peepshow in my day so maybe it makes up for it. Also, whoever posted something about Superninjas a while back, I remmeber seeing that movie on USA a long ass time ago and thinking it just rocked the shit, and never found a copy of it anywhere. The kind with ninjas of all different colors with different tricks, right? Do you have an adress in the states where I could order that from or something? Yes, they would be metal though if they came out now instead of the so long ago when they did. Also another reason they may sound alot more like metal is the HUGE improvements in technology. Too easy, too cheap... --I'm not here to defend Rollins or anybody else (as I've stated in the past...). I don't worship him or anything remotely close to that. I RESPECT him though.-- Ok, this particular quote refers to specific people that Rollins thought had no place in the Flag's gigs for many reasons... are these reasons right/wrong? I don't know? Is that what he *thought* about them? YES...so that's ok by me, he's true to himself. You know, he's done things that I've questioned strongly (ads, movies, etc) but the bottom line is: If he can use all the attention and money he gets for doing things he BELIEVES in, I'm with him all the way. I just hope that you have some new arguments about him, not the ones that have already been beat to death! Sorry about taking up space for non-Misfits related stuff... Brett, I was joking (mostly) :) . At least, you're polite enough to apologise (although it was not needed)... tes777@bridge.net (Tammy S.) wrote : >To - a.proctor - how do you know Glenn hasn't seen any of the Misfits show!?! Oh well, I think he can take a (not so) wild guess ;) >To Yannis - did you know that Rollins is opening up for Ozzy on part of his > tour? So? Do you have a point to make here?? Hmm, I didn't think so... ----------/----------/---------/-------/-----------/---------------/----------/-------- cm-y.nikolopoulos@tees.ac.uk `Disrespect is a 2-way street', H.R ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 29 May 1996 01:05:50 -0500 From: tes777@bridge.net (Tammy S.) Subject: Font to your left and Font to your right, Font in a circle... Hello Fiends, well that's it on the birthdays though i did get one today, a little late but what is new. Oh don't get to relaxed cause the wheels are already turninig on what i might come up with next. To John Greenwell the name of the Movie you are talking about is Angry Red Planet, and the creature was called the Rat-Bat-Spider which was said to be 40' high, crab like legs with pincers, yet spider like to support a rat like body with the head of a bat. The movie was from 1959 - American International Pictures . To Aaron Proctor i was never trying to flame you or Yannis ( who i remember said something to the effect to support Rollin and i figured to be nice and let Yan know that he was touring with Ozzy if you see that as a flame you've lost it) I never had anything against your opinion and i even said don't take this the wrong way. Glenn had never given me the impression that he did not want to talk about the Misfits or his past. He seemed cool with it when we sat and talked about it, though most people who interview him ask dumb ass questions that piss him off. He is very happy to look at the original Misfits records and reminisce about the old days to an extent. I never said i was above debating on the bible, i see no point into flaming anyone over a misunderstanding. Plus you have no right to give me crap about the way i handle *my problems or arguements* This has nothing to do with ruining the bible either. I just see flaming people as a waste of space. Plus wasting Mark's time which he usually has very little of. It's a shit to put an issue of the bible together. See i did the one for the Get to Know You issue and it does take a lot of time. By the way i don't start arguements with anyone. Which means i didn't start an arguement with you!?! That is enough of that. later to all the fiendies...
